I pretty much used DD gear from 1-75. All these 60 Plds that stack vit/def should try it out
.. Tarudins FTW.

I had pretty much all the gear (which was pretty unneccessary). I had a set of extreme VIT/DEF and a set of extreme DD, both of which work just fine (though I admit that doing 800-1200 Vorpal Blade on Mamools in merit parties is quite gorgeous). As always, it's situational, but you should play how you want to play. Being someone who's used both types of gear set and also various combinations of the 2 types, I can tell you for sure that your success really comes down to your ability. It's a toss up of what the best way to hold hate is, but the reality is that you just need to hold hate. If you are doing that, and your party can go on indefinately with minimal resting, then you're fine.
I know that you play tons of jobs and space is an issue, so pick which style you like more and only get the gear that suits that style.

I don't think I've ever got Lol'd at. Everything I have is HQ and the best lol. And I pt with JP's usually, since I play at like 4 AM in the morning.
That and most pties are so happy to have a tank these days, they are rarer than healers for sure on my server.

Stupidest quote ever.
Rumbas, what do they check as:
IT or greater - Ditch the DD gear. You taking 100+ damage a hit and 500 from pecking fury and having a 50% acc rating with a 50 point Vorpal Blade is retarded. I can hold hate fine on those mobs in full ass turtle gear. Of course, that could be considered overcamping.
VT or lower - Go DD. Even though PLD DD pre Hauby is lol.
Situational shit is situational. And you should never DD when you see high defense/high evasion in DD gear.

Which is why you don't fight things IT or greater. Supplementing stupid choices with more stupid choices, etc.

If they check as High Evasion, you have a less than 60% chance to hit. And you're dot will be lol. If they check as Low Evasion, you have over an 80% chance to hit. If they don't have that, it's between 60% and 80%.
When I started DD'ing, I could get WS's off every once in a while, even on birds. You might have someone with multi-hit weapons, or just not enough ACC to do what you are doing.

I still consider pre-70 PLD a shit for shit DD'er that can't do much (if anything). They don't have joy, opti/wally, homam, auram, etc. They basically get, what - hauby, snips, and an espadon+1? maybe it's because I haven't played at that level in a while, but Vorpal blows at that level and Swift ends up doing more consistent damage (300 damage yay....)

True, I mostly used my weaponskills for flat blade for the stun. But I got to admit being a hybrid is ungodly helpful.

Which part? The dot or the low evasion being over 80% hit rate?
If it's the dot statement: Good job quoting half the fucking statement. To reiterate: If they check as High Evasion, you have a less than 60% chance to hit. And you're dot will be lol.

Oh, hybrid I have no problem with. It's people that use this over this for the extra str (pre sub nin, duh).

Highest swift isn't always the same as your average swift. You're falling into the sub thf trap - Tons of inexperienced dd's think that sub thf is the best sub for damage because it creates huge numbers, however it's usually WAR with a steady stream that causes those numbers. Back in the day, I could score a 600 point Vorpal, but if I didn't have the acc gear, it was a 1 in 50 chance.

In full on DEF/VIT gear I recall taking like 30-50 damage a swing from colibri (with defender on), though it's been a very long time.
As for knowing you have many jobs, I have been a KI reader for many years, though I don't post too frequently. Only when I feel like I have something useful to add. Or when I am overly bored at work.
I kept all six of my jobs pretty much fully geared for all the different styles that they can use, and it is HARD to do, so I perfectly understand your concern for space.

they where never high evade, ether nothing like just IT or low/low, and i know about the spike thingy and such i would rate my average as 300 if i poped zerk ( i useally click this off, on lessers i try to see how long i can leave it on)
and yeah im sure the spike came from a double attack

This is wrong. If you just barely get mob to con low evasion, you have a 75% - (level difference * 2) chance to hit. For example, 8 level difference would make low evasion switchover have ~60% acc. High evasion is a 40 point swing from low evasion, so on that same mob, you would have ~40% hit rate.
