Is it true TH1 doesn't have any effect on Rare and EX equipment?
TH Quick Question

Being pretty is not an excuse for failing to think about this logically.
First and foremost, why would it not affect Rare and/or Ex drops? Barring 100% drops, there's no logical reason for Treasure Hunter to be specifically edited not to impact such items.
Beyond that, though, as someone who has farmed a whole lot with just the level 15 iteration of Treasure Hunter, I see no indication that it does not work for Rare and/or Ex drops. Some things just have a miserable drop rate, sometimes you get lucky, but (merely as a single example), the time I finally got my Retaliators was as /Thief. I'd had at least seven unsuccessful kills prior.

/no.
TH works wonders for Rare/ex Items, unless you are me.

It was just what I was told after complaining about Leaping Lizzie's drop rate and why even with my TH1 I hadn't gotten the drop. So I had to ask because it quite believeable. Plus with there being more TH's its quite possible SE only gave the later ones the ability to effect Rare and E/X items. I was thinking logically. But erm thanks anyway.

If you can't figure out how to use this then don't worry about it.

Thf forums are so the best forums.
I need to start leveling thf again, slowed right down when i started farming for morri's mats. I miss stabbing stuff in the back.

I'd hit it, with a golf club between the eyes.

I haven't been keeping up to date with TH to see if there's anything new about it(I don't farm[I usually mine/craft for gil] or have THF past 37), so this is just from what I remember reading a while ago.
There are dozen and dozens of rumors/theories about TH:
1.TH1(or both) does not work on rare/ex items
2. Depends on damage dealt(disproved by SE)
3. <insert more stuff here>
Well, any of them could be true considering we have little to no information on how TH actually works and SE has never revealed anything about it besides saying the THF only needs to be "exp" range of the monster when it dies for it to work.
Also, in the single player Final Fantasy games(7 and 8 being examples I can think of right now), the "Treasure Hunter"(it's called "Rare Item" ironically) in those games worked by simply increasing the chance of common items to drop but decreasing the rare item drop.
Here's a random example of what a monster could drop:
60% chance: Potion
25% chance: Potion X2
10% chance: Fire Ring
5% chance: Fire Ring X2
With the "Rare Item" ability, it would simply increase the chance to get the second item while decreasing the chances to get the rarer items(ironic for an ability called "Rare Item):
60% chance: Potion
35% chance: Potion X2
5% chance: Fire Ring
0% chance: Fire Ring X2
This is just an example of how the "Rare Item" ability worked in FF7 and in FF8(I got the information from gamefaqs btw).
Seeing as how:
1. Rare Item(the treasure hunter equivalent in FF7/FF8) worked by reducing the drop rate of rare items but increased the rate of common drop
2. SE doesn't like making things easy on players
3. There's nearly no information revealed by SE on how TH works(besides just being in exp range for it to work).
4. Has there been much testing regarding TH1 and rare/ex items?
From these, it's not illogical to assume TH1 doesn't work on rare/ex drops(especially with people going 0 out of <insert large number here> on <insert NM here with rare/ex drop>, with TH1).

There has been no official word from SE as to whether or not TH1/2+ has an effect on r/ex drops. Nor has there been any testing on it either.
I don't have any personal anecdotal evidence to offer you either, OP. I can tell you though that, due to the help text on the trait, being that it "increases treasure," and r/ex items are treasure, dropping into the treasure pool, the logical default position is that it is (much?) more likely that TH1/2+ does increase r/ex drop rates.

The whole concept of TH has worked in the way that you activate everything that can affect the drop rate when you kill a mob. Basically, in simple terms, anything that you think can affect the drop rate, do it. That has been the mentality of FFXI members over the years.
It is only when SE comes out and discards one or part of those theories, people stop doing them. Treasure hunter is a mystery just like crafting. No one knows exactly how it works, and no one will ever know either.
If you want to maximize your chances, just make sure you implement all those "Theories" when you need a drop.

Thanks everyone for the replies, lol. Regardless whether it helps Rare/Ex items I know its making the ordinary items drop more so thats always a bonus.

Depends if your farming. I suppose it could be a pain in the ass in parties.

I meant more in the general perception of our job by other people. Glance through the picture thread and you'll see plenty of instances of being asked to come as a DD job because they already have enough TH.
That was the point I started parsing events and if nobody came close to me, I'd move elsewhere.
