So.... A little while back, I was reading a thread on BG titled "Epic solos". In this thread was a link to some videos of a Ninja called Gold from Odin server soloing some crazy stuff.

Some of this I was already aware of (such as Contaminated Coliseum), but others I was really surprised by (Ash Dragon for example). Considering /dnc wasn’t available at this time, it's really very impressive, as alot more skill was probably required without the availability of Curing Waltz 2 to help dig you out of a hole.

Anyway! Watching these Vids have inspired me to build up my NIN to solo some stuff and hopefully reproduce some stuff Gold has done.

However, I have full combat merits so I'm going to have to try and do these things without the aid of EVA or Katana merits.

All of this except Usu body I have or should have pretty soon.

As mentioned, the set provides capped subtle blow along with the aid of Subtle Blow merits.


Speaking of merits; besides Subtle Blow, which would you merit after this? Huton Effect and Raiton Effect?

Another tactic employed by Gold involves Staves for debuffs, but for obviously reasons, you can't do this as /dnc.

I currently have... very little in the ways of a ninjutsu build. With merits, the following build would provide 315 skill.


How much do you guys use for Higher stuff for floored resists? Would the high skill be enough to land debuffs without staves? or should more INT and Magic Acc be included in there?


Thought I'd make this thread so people could throw some ideas around and push what NIN can do a bit further, because although NIN hasn't had any awesome <3 from SE for quite a while, it is a very capable job in multiple areas and can really get the most out of a lot of subjobs.

Usukane Somen gives 5 less AGI and 1 less eva, but 7 acc and 3 haste. Personally I'd say that outweighs ninja hatsuburi +1 if you're going to include stuff like haramaki on there.

Also, in my experience, Wind Ring really isn't worth the -15% HP at all. But that's just me.

If you're that desperate for extra evasion I'd say drop the Peiste and just put Scouter's Rope there. -40 HP instead of the -100+ HP of the Wind Ring.

And being a person that hates crunching a shitload of numbers just to decide what to wear, I'd just stack as much magic accuracy in the extra slots as I could find for the debuffs, without sacrificing too much inventory space. Never hurts to have more to avoid annoying resists- or if you want, you can stick in haste so you can recast it faster.

And I was gonna make a separate topic, but since it's sort-on on topic I suppose I'll just ask here: Does anyone have any experience soloing Girtablulu? Been planning on doing this since I can't seem to find any help for it. Though, I'm still a bit confused by how the Altepa Gate works- sounds to me that you'd need to have a party of at least 4 people, or stand around in front of the gate until someone opens it for you if you wanted to solo this thing.

I did with my blu... but headbutt and tempo shift save alot of trouble !

well, got charyb to ~50% last night... then ran out of shihei, and hit 50hp while opening a new toolbag and getting interrupted, and didnt really recover -.-;;

Take a lesson from that: always keep an eye on your Shihei count. If you watched, for instance, the Ash Dragon solo video that Mithra did, you'd see her open her inventory to check on it every so often. I've learned that lesson the hard way a couple times, too.

For the question about Cat. 1 merits after subtle blow:

Personally, I don't think any of them will make much of a difference. I did 5/5 Doton effect for easier silence/gravity when low-manning stuff, to which my RDM friend pointed out: "If I'm having a hard enough time landing gravity or silence to need doton, we're probably screwed anyway."

I think it'd be a toss up between Huton or Raiton for you. Honestly, from what I can tell it's a bit of a placebo, and just means you need to carry more tools around.
