Although we remained hopeful he would wake up and fly away, the bat eventually became IPR 119V-0080 after the ICE team finished their walkdown. He did change the direction he was pointing from time to time throughout countdown but ultimately never flew away. IR imagery shows he was alive and not frozen like many would think. The surface of the ET foam is actually generally between 60-80 degrees F on a day like yesterday. SE&I performed a debris analysis on him and ultimately a LCC waiver to ICE-01 was written to accept the stowaway. Lift off imagery analysis confirmed that he held on until at least the vehicle cleared to tower before we lost sight of him.

As for the bat though, it could have delayed things to much to try and get it off. Bats can manipulate their body temperature though doodles, so it can't freeze to death. To conserve energy while they sleep, they drop to room temperature. As they wake up they move it back up to normal. I've seen a bat covered in ice and it survived it. It's far more likely to die from solar radiation and incredibly thin air up there. Chances are though it wouldn't make it out and it would be ripped off the side by high speeds, at which point it would probably wake up high in the air and disoriented and probably regain flight before it hit the ground. You needn't worry Doodles. As long as it wasn't baked by the lift off thrust, chances are if survived one way or another.
