I play a tarutaru dancer.
Dancer, in a lot of cases, subs ninja.
Tarutaru ninjas are quite squishy, and utsusemi ichi has such a slow cast time. I cast, and they go to recast on the second shadow, although the recast will often not be up. Standard operating procedure at 17. Unfortunately, if they begin to hit, they won't stop, and I can not recast without being interrupted.
So I need the help of those who know the job. How can I solo to 37 on not EP's?
Subjobs available would be: Dancer, Warrior, Samurai, and Monk.

Sub Dancer, do Fields of Valor. At some point in time you're going to want to learn how to time Utsusemi: Ichi casts.

either way it doesn't really matter path, because fact of the matter is you are only really guaranteed 6 shadows if you are soloing pre-37. Any other shadows you get during the fight will require a lucky miss by the mob for you to get it off in time.
Otherwise path nailed it FoV /dnc and do DCs then, I can't really see you successfully fighting anything harder unless you invest in the enfeeble tools, start the fight with blind, then slow, then paralyze, there will be lots of downtime w/ only drain samba though

im currently in the same boat. i just hit 19 all solo on mostly EP. not too bad with emperor band. I'm hoping Kurayami: Ichi will help w/ shadow recast as well as a general damage reducer. If that doesnt work msg me in game, maybe we can duo

The point I was making about learning how to cast Utsusemi: Ichi was actually more pointed at the fact that he's going to use Ninja as a support job and, as such, will be interrupted by any kind of damage whatsoever during casting.

I'd say Path nailed it on the head for what to do, at least until you get to around 24-25. Sub DNC, do FoV and learn the recast for Utsu on mobs that won't tear you up. I strongly recommend getting all the enfeebles as you go up. As someone who just finished soloing my NIN sub, they're invaluable to have.
Once you've got the recasts down and hit 24-25, you can prey off worms and Gigas pets on Qufim and make some pretty decent chains there (just avoid the wights at night
). After that, I recommend using the BLM solo guide by Lion heart, found on Wiki, and preying off goblin pets.
They can hit hard at times, but substantially lower HP than standard mobs means you have a fair shot of taking them out before they get you. You can usually move camps 1-2 levels before wiki suggests it I found, but remember that better exp comes with the risk of harder hitting mobs.
Edit: Bringing an Adventuring Fellow along can be a huge help, especially if they're set to Healer. It's good to have backup cures, and Dia makes the pets that much squishier.
Double Edit: Eat jack o'lanterns, the evasion and accuracy are life savers at times.

Thanks to all of you, it does help.
I'm kind of poor (read: incredibly poor) so shihei is all I can afford, and I don't have an adventuring fellow yet, but I'll try and find some jack o'lanterns, and do some FoV's.
Downtime will piss me off, but I'll deal with it. Thanks all =D

FoV Regen and Drain Samba really ought to be enough to keep you going. That and the massive Evasion/Defense Bonus from Signet when fighting EM or weaker mobs should make this fairly manageable.
