Why cant Bst's charm Hippogryphs?

This might seem like a stupid question, but I'm still not sure as to why you guys were not allowed to charm these bastards?, I mean its not as if they're redicolously huge, nor do they fall into any category that wouldnt allow you to charm them, and they seem like they would make a great pet.

The primary reason I brought this up is if you go to skyrend in Grauberg (S) there are so many of these plus a huge number of ajattaras to xp of but I hardly ever see anyone exploit this place.

There's a whole whack of stuff we can't charm and if we could there would be good camps. Just chalk it up to SE trying to keep the BST power in check.

I realise there are plenty of things Bsts cant charm, but Hippogryphs just always seemed like a weird mob to me. I mean when SE advertised all the new monsters that were released with CoP they completely forgot to mention these things, they advertised Corses, diremites buffalos but fogot the running feather dusters and the buggards like they were simply an afterthought

its the same reason that blue mages cant learn "White Wind" from Puks, its been in every other game as blue magic, why not this one?

The reason: SE has never made sense with ffxi, they started with what they thought was a good idea, then tweaked it to what the players wanted. Example: ninjas tanking and summoners healing.

wasn't fun, but it got it leveled before the pact separation occurred

In the middling levels it happens all too often. Only reason my NIN is 38 instead of 37 was to not break the XP party when I was tanking in Alteppa. =/

See above

BST was kinda game breaking on release as they could charm any mob including groundshakers (Manticores Rocs etc) and could basically own whole area in a trio. SE didnt like so gimped BST. I know Hippos arent shakers but they are uber powerful mobs thus SE added them to the uncharmables sorry sad.gif

Well if we could charm Hippogryphs the Riverne Areas would become a complete joke. (It'd be awesome as hell though.)

thing is though, we should be able to charm something in any zone. i mean why cant we charm the dolphins in sea? they're not too powerful at all, not too accurate.

even the ul' ones would be fine. as i realize om' would rip the shit out of certian sea gods. honestly though, I want a phuabo pet.

Do you think that being able to charm at least one kind of mob in every area will help bst to access end game activities?
I mean,ok,let us charm phuabo...then?
We can farm our organs,we can farm our cards for limbus ...and then?
Solo limbus? lol ._.
Bst needs something that allow us not only to survive, but also to inflict a good amount of damage,_if we're talking about lolendgame_
Our solo skill is already ok,i agree,we need more pets in more areas, but that's for solo only.
Our party skill (if we're not in a pet ls) isn't good at all,or at least most of the times it won't make any difference (compared to other DDs)
This could be right, because givin' us the same potential of other DD's would break us,because of our pets, but ill be glad if SE could give us a "spirit surge" sorta. (of course not 2hr recast lol)
Wanna solo? good, take your pet out.
Wanna party for any event? Take your pet out,use spirit surge, gain pet attributes, and say good bye to the pet.

Oh hell,i know,im terribly off topic lol

I'd gladly give my pet up to make my party damage less miserable.

I agree there is a certain annoyance in there being no charmable pets in Sea, but soloing there is possible with jugs. I solo there alot recently together with dear old Carrie. She may need a little Pet food once in a while, but she stays happy, and so do I by her side. I find it is best to tank a little as long as shadows can be kept up from start, then Snarl, Utsusemi timer reset, do a WS and tank a little until next WS and then the foe is usually dead. I admit it gets a little hard on the VT stuff, and I haven't exactly gone for Yovra solo tongue.gif

Phuabo, Aern, Xzomit are my main targets. Some Phuabo because of their annoying aura needs me to call in another Carrie because she dies.. poor Carrie. Some Regen equipment (Rune axe in offhand and the Gaudy harness is my choice) helps quite a bit.

I'll be honest there are 3 things i would love for bsts to have as pets.

Hippogryphs: nice array of abilities combination of offensive/def

Wivre: if this wouldnt count as the ultimate tank I dont know what would

Peistes: .....no real reason just like the lizards
