well recently the idea planted itself in my head to be a beastmaster. i see a lot of ppl subbing warrior or whitemage for it, but whatabout redmage? i also hear good things about a BST/PLD. your thoughts?

BST/RDM is another possible option out of the usual. It offers similar benefits as a WHM sub. Generally WHM is prefered because of things like Divine Seal and the status-cures (poisona), plus the auto-regen at lvl 50 bst / 25 whm, which RDM lack.

It is arguable that much later in lvls, having a RDM sub could be a good choice. But early on WHM is probably better.

Not sure about BST/PLD. Your mana pool will be smaller than RDM or WHM I think. I guess it *might* work, but PLD lacks lots of debuff spells, which are pretty important to soloing.

WHM edges out RDM in part due to WHM getting better CHR than a RDM

bst66/rdm33 gets Phalanx, Dispel and the lowest if the mage MP.
bst66/whm33 gets Blink, stoneskin ect like rdm but erase and status cures, also more MP than rdm.

Bst 66 / whm 33 also gets Reraise. Handy backup when you're soloing.
