I've read in a few different places that TH doesnt activate in any capacity on mobs that don't give experience. Or perhaps it was saying that you have to be within range of experience whether it gives it or not. Can someone please verify this, I don't plan to be farming EP or DC a whole lot and if this is the case it's a waste of my time to level TH to 45+

Awhile ago I do believe there was a GM commentary (i have no SS) where the GM said you have to be in range of the mob, but even then we all know to not even bother taking GM statements a grain of salt, they're worth almost nothing at all. In the lack of a clear answer to that question, common sense would dictate "better safe than sorry"; that you should probably assume that if you're out of exp range, your TH trait won't activate.

Either way, don't mistake lack of exp gained due to being too far away as having identical properties to lack of exp due to the mob being of too low of a level, as these are different conditions. But as to that latter condition, I do have an answer. There've been several tests done to analyze TH potency and conditions, and these tests are usually done on too-weak level mobs. May it be to your comfort that it is very easy to see the effect of TH on mobs that are TW. If you click the LJ link in my sig and scroll down, you'll see what I mean from some old tests of my own. Similarly you can find others linked in the discussion page of the TH article on wiki.

A statement like this thew blues in a loop on how to learn blue spells. the way it was stated from SE made it sound like you have to earn EXP from the mob to learn the spell but we found out fast this was wrong. We figured out they ment you can not be out of range, that statement that you get " you are too far away to gain experience points" is prob what SE ment, and im guessing it is the same with this.

That statement is misleading as well. I can personally attest to learning Hecatomb Wave from a demon that I never saw. I zoned into xarcabard to help with... something (i forget), and as i zone in I see the message pop up in log, right before the "too far to gain xp" message.

TH works a different way than learning blue magic for sure, but in regards to SE's statement, I don't think that's what it means.

if you did not get " you are too far to gain experience" message when it died then that would make your statement not fit as an exception.

what you said is normal and does not contradict what i said. it does not matter if you never "saw" the mob

i had people zone in places too and they learned spells, but they where in range, you never know more then one could of died, that is sotra vague.

what does it mean? does SE like frustrating people by being vague and not clear?
