I left FFXI to play WoW with my boyfriend. I always missed FFXI and still do. Just can't spend as much time playing games as I used to, and FF wasn't a casual type of game when I was playing it 3 years ago. Since then, I've left WoW outta boredom soon after the 1st expansion, and just enjoying playing and fighting over getting time on the PS3 from my boyfriend who is an Xbox freak.

Well I couldn't resist anymore, the cravings became too strong.
I already felt like playing this game as it was and then with the mention of XIV......
I can't imagine it being a very happy return but at the very least i'll get it out of my system.

This is how I feel. I've come back a couple times for like a week at the time, but I just can't get involved in it again. I'm hoping FFXIV changes it for me. I think starting over new, with new missions, no gear, leveling up will be fun again. Hopefully SE will fix things in Beta that are needed instead of 6 years after the game has been out. Also, it would be nice if there's no xp loss in the new MMO.

Got bored of FFXI, so I quit for WoW a long while ago. Still playing/loving it, but I'm also really looking forward to FFXIV (note: why I'm now once again active in the forums).

That's me right now. I was doing endgame Ulduar in WoW, guild broke up while I have been taking care of this little baby kitten, so I haven't had time to get an invite to the new one, but I think I'm gonna take a break from WoW when FF14 comes out. I miss my old FFXI days, I'm hoping FFXIV brings them back.

I forgot all about XIV until I read this forum. On a positive note, Toy Story 3 comes out in July of next year
but I'll probably forget that, too.

Yep, I've quit doing Ulduar now too. I love progressing, but I really don't like how Blizzard handles it. We beat Yogg, beat some hard modes, and then got "Hey guys, we're going to hand out a bunch of epics to everyone who didn't do anything to deserve them. Enjoy!" and I just kind of lost interest. I like how it is on FFXI, even shit from Sky or Dynamis is still very useful, and those are olde.
I do agree though. When I first started FFXI, it was "magical", something I've never found in any other MMO. It was a very exciting experience, and the entire game was just fantastic. The world felt huge, the missions were exciting, the story deep, etc. I'm trying to get back into FFXI now, but not many people want to do anything on this server other than "ZOMG LEVEL" or "ZOMG ENDGAME." I can't for the life of me find people who want to, for example, clear Bahamut/Apoc Nigh, ToAU, WotG or Crystal Proph.
I'm really looking forward too FFXIV. It looks fantastic just from the few scenes we've seen. Can't wait to see how they handle leveling up and classes.

XP loss is retarded, especially if they still make the decision of whether you live or die, largely up to your group. In FFXI, if your group sucked, there wasn't much to do to save yourself. Why should I be penalized for some idiot not knowing how to manage aggro? Plus it takes away from leveling other jobs when you're too busy releveling 74-75 everyday because of dying during endgame. Although, they said there isn't an XP grind and leveling is gonna be different, so maybe it's going to be something like FFII, where if you cast magic a lot, your mage stats go up, if you melee, your melee stats go up, etc. It would be fun, but I think it would be sorta hard to incorporate into an MMO, but it would definitely bring a new generation of how you customize your character to MMOs.

FoV (read: sky, VOS, Ro'maeve), campaign and sea make it very hard to hit 74 even with a lot of sacing

We've got a few Mages, but I can pull some strings if you're interested.

I appreciate it, but I'm just on Kael'Thas to play with Talinia, Android, and another friend I met in WoW.

Then why even include XP loss if it's so easy to get back?

because its still a reason for some people to not fail, seems to push them sometime, unless its the princess attitude people.
but even if its very easy to keep and get a full buffer on any job, i'm not gonna lie, many people still hit 74 daily in kings areas for example
question is why whine about something that doesnt hurt that much? the guys that suicide and mpk for fun have to think about it twice because their diseased brain is usually at 2k from down level.

I believe the whole damn losing xp when dieing thing is still totally worth having it has a grinding feeling to FFXI hell all of FFXI is perfect to me cause i like teh grinding and none of teh updates ever really bother me. Personally i'm really more afraid of what they'll do to XIV in teh end and how they're trying to make few things more for casual people cause dear god...WoW is just too easy and boring when i put my hands on it...and getting xp from quests and ton of my money that way just felt boring and how i was getting items that sold for like 200~300 gold of regular mobs just made it too easy. i like mining in Mt. Zhalom(spelling never has been that good for me) and having this horrible percentage on getting Khroma Ore or getting any other good items from anything else. Grinding Yes, Please. I'll play WoW the day I want things handed to me.

Well, see, some people have lives and don't have 10 hours a day to play like you. Also, nothing that even drops from level 80 trash sells for 200-300g, even on AH, unless it is a rare world drop. You know, like a .01% chance of obtaining the item.
I love when people bash WoW that have obviously never played it, you make yourself look like a fool when you say things like that.
Also, Yuffy, the XP loss system they have in place atm isn't too bad. I'm referring to how it was years ago. You know, back when you'd lose like 5k XP at 75 if you didn't get a raise. And then again, you HAD to have R3, otherwise you were going to be pissy, because it meant another hour or two of XPing to get it back.

i don't play ten hours a day i play for three~four hours a day. Apparently I guess some people don't know how to spend their time wisely and i remember the 5kxp loss mmm i remember listening to people whine about that was so entertaining
