1) I didn't like how FFXI makes us pay for an expansion, and then pay monthly, when quite honestly, the expansion has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO IN IT. If there's going to be a monthly fee, we need complete expansions.
2) Real life
3) I play most games with my gaming syndicate ExGS. They play AoC and Darkfall mostly, so I went and tried those. Not my cup of tea, quite honestly, but it's fun with friends.
Anyways, I'm back for now, to do stupid stuff and...stuff.

Which expansion are you referring to? Zilart and CoP had plenty to do in them. I freakin looooooved CoP! It was hard as hell, but really fun and rewarding in my opinion.
I tried Darkfall. Seemed like a sweet concept but I couldn't get into it. I think that's largly due to my laptop not being able to run it properly. 5 second lag to switch between the combat and non-combat UI sucks...

Mostly WotG, but ToAU too. ToAU atleast had some very good places to level up, WotG had campaign, but that pales in comparison to just exping, assuming you're shooting for max exp/hour. Both we had to wait a very long time for all the features though, and IMO, that's not right.
Darkfall was an AMAZING concept done in a TERRIBLE manner. I came in hoping "Oblivion Online". Instead I got Morrowind combat with no story, immersion, world, etc.
And yes, I absolutely loved CoP. The challenge was what made it best, IMO. We downed Ultima/Omega on our first try, but damn, that fight was crazy.

didn't you and Omare have an interweb relationship ?

Seriously dude, that's pretty fucking creepy/wrong on so many different levels. -.-;
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Moving on and away from the creepy mithra with the tail coming out the wrong end..
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
FFXI was not a very hard game. There is a world of difference between hard and frustrating.
The majority of CoP missions for example were hard because of the ridiculous level caps and trying to find other people willing to do it who also had a semi decent set of lvl w/e the fuck gear laying around. Ugh... let me not get to into it, I'll go on all night.
Last thing on the subject though - to those of you who want to pretend wow is super easy mode and FFXI is where all the uber elite people play. Try and actually get to the fucking end of the game instead of basing it off of BS lvling.
Playing practically any damage dealing class in FF boiled down to auto attack... pressing the berserk button every 5 minutes and pressing another button once or twice a fight to do a weapon skill. Pretty hardcore stuff right there...
WoW you have a ton of spells/abilitys no matter what class/spec/role you are and you actually have to learn to play the class. Generally speaking for MOST jobs in FFXI there was almost zero skill factor, all that mattered is your gear. In WoW you can have the best gear in the world and still suck because you don't know how to properly play your class.
Most importantly - I'm not 16 anymore, I have a wife, a daughter and a life. I don't have 6 hours to spend sitting around in a "game" waiting for some mystical mob to spawn who's going to end up giving me a fucking earth crystal and a single flint stone for all my trouble. That's not the game being hard, that's the game telling you to take your time and effort spent and shove it in your ass.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lastly there's FFIV - if there is one thing that SE has proven time and time again (Especially with how FFXIII turned out) is they simply do not give a fuck what your opinion is. It's either they just don't care period or they only care what the Japanese fan base thinks. I mean c'mon, it's a final fantasy game with out towns for fucks sake. *face palm* You can say w/e you want about WoW love, hate it, meh it. Blizzard actually listens to its paying customers though (Generally speaking). SE very rarely listens to the player base and if they do it's usually 3 years too late for anyone to give a shit.
I'm still going to try it when it comes out and I really do hope SE proves me wrong, I'm just not expecting much. Not to mention the game looks way too similar to FFXI.. the whole thing just seems ridiculous.
I hate to have to be so negative everytime I talk about FF it just drives me crazy how some of you still refuse to see the 1,000,000 things wrong with the game.

Did endgame raids in Vanilla WoW and WotLK. I think vanilla was hard, especially AQ40 and Naxx. However, TBC and WotLK were very disappointing in my opinion which is why I didn't raid in TBC and quit right after Uldaar came out. I'm not saying FFXI is hard, but I do believe there is more skill required. In WoW you only have to know how to install addons and follow what they tell you to do. And you do have many abilities, but most of time few are very useful (PvE mainly, not as much PvP).

The game was just not fun anymore. Simple as that.
However It did have a unique flavor that WoW could never have but it was too much to handle. The Drama back in 2005 2006 was some amazing stuff though lol; it became to repetitive at one point.
Linkshell (A) use to have godlike claiming abilities so they end up farming the shit out of nidhogg till their grandmothers have adaman hauberks then comes Linkshell (B ) who are new and not experienced, they amazingly claim nidhogg one day and whipe in 3 seconds because Linkshell (A) didn't give a shit and decided to mpk them. Oh the days, good times

I'm playing on and off now, mostly because it's easier to play casually now, and WotG is interesting / the new addons look cool.
Plus, I figure that since I have 14 75s, if I keep playing...
1) It's entertaining
2) Beta invite prz?
However, I'm also no longer on Unicorn.
Why?
Because if FF14 has anything like EQ2 did where we get something describing our old character or server, there's NO FUCKING WAY I'm going to be called "Zaft of Unicorn"

Final Fantasy XI is boring. The only thing fun was ballista, and many people moved on from that since ToAU. No competitive play outside of Camping, which is BORING HOURS of "omfg I must provoke" or some crap, same deal with Exp Grinding.
Moved onto the Fighting Scene: Super Smash Brothers Brawl, Super Street Fighter 4, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Melty Blood: Actress Again, so on, so forth.
Though, to relive some of those FFXI deals, I also play White Knight Chronicles and Monster Hunter Tri.
Final Fantasy XI costs money. The fighting scene makes money.
Final Fantasy XI you get stronger via stats and virtual items, small skill and small knowledge (must be why it's quite attracting). Fighting games you get stronger with pure skill and knowledge, much more rewarding in the end.

plain and simple, everything was much too time consuming with not enough to gain, competing for HNMs and standing around for up to 3 hours most of the time to do it....just obnoxious, if things are better in 14 im there!!! i miss my peeps on unicorn tho

I quit cause I was getting married. Then I tried the 10 day trial of WOW and loved it. Now I have a 3 week old baby (still play WOW). I might come back for 14. If its anything like FFXI where you need 40 people to do anything or shout for 3 hours just to get a party going, then I'm out. I pay to play not stand in a city and shout for party.

Pretty much quit FFXI for a lot of reasons:
1: Takes waaaaay more time and effort than I was willing to put into a video game to get something done like a mission or lots of endgame events (like sky).
2: Little reward to how much time you put into the game (just MY opinion; but 2% drop rate on items 5+ people may want on a 24 hour spawn window when you may not even get claim stunk)
3: Job imbalancing, ie jobs like DNC and BST are not IDEAL (notice I said ideal not TOTALLY unacceptable) for endgame and usually get the shaft
4: SE treats their customers like shit.
5: NO PVP ANYMORE
6: Oh and lastly I dislike how SE reintroduces unpopular content already ingame to assist with newer content.
