Greeting everyone, Orta here^^
Someone may have already noticed this name comes from the SEGA game - Panzer Dragoon Orta.
By it's a shame for me that I just got drg leveled to 75 not long ago, DRG is the 3rd lv75 job for

me.
My favorite is SMN, leveled WHM 1st to 75 for Fenrir then went for SMN.
After getting most things I need for SMN I can now finally decide to work on for my second

favorite job - Dragoon.

Currently what I have for DRG is:

271 Polearm skill (yeah not capped yet dry.gif)
1 x Angon merit
2 x Polearm Skill merit
4 x Crit merit
2 x STR merit
4 x MP merit

Q1: My merit plan is 8 x Polearm Skill -> 5 x Jump Recast-> 5 x Super Jump Recast-> 5 x Angon

-> 5 x STR ->5 x Deep Breathing

WHM, NIN, SAM, WAR, BLU, BLM, THF 37+as sub

Q2: Do I need another sub under certain situation? Such as RDM for the 6mp cost Barspells.
Haven't tested yet so idk which sub is the best, /blu is kinda great for solo and I do love it.

WS: Drakesbane and Impulse Drive both obtianed.
Q3: Working on Light Gorget for Drakesbane and Wheeling Thust now, do I also need Shadow Gorget for Penta?

Equipments:

Weapon:
Obtained: Cletine, Thalassocrat
Working on: Valkyrie's Fork (The fork is actually close to me.)

Q4: Can I toss Cletine and sell Thalassocrat after obtaining Valkyrie's Fork? I know the Fork should
outdmg them both but still dunno if I should keep Thalassocrat for Zerg battles, like Einhejar
bosses and Bahamut V2, KV etc.

Grip:
Pole Grip all the time.

Throwing:
Smart Generade (I know it's crappy but don't think it's too bad...)

Neck:
Chivalrous Chain only...
Not sure if I need the STR and DEX + 4 neck piece from Einhejar.
Working on: Light Gorget, Love Torque
Q5: which one would be better for WS?

Earrings:
Obtained: Brutal, Assault, Fowling, Minuet
Working on Dragoon's Earring from ZNM.

Back:
Amemet +1, I know Forager is better, but that Amemet +1 is signed by my best friend (in game
and IRL), don't wanna replace it with just one STR boost, unless I'm rich enough to get Chuchucian
Mantal.

Waist:
Swift Belt, Potential Belt and Warwolf Belt
Q6: I use Swift Belt for TP, but can't decide which one for WS... Any suggestions?

Rings:
Rajas Ring, Iota Ring, Flame Ring
Q7: Rajas Ring full time, Iota Ring for TP and Flame Ring for WS, is that correct?

Head:
Obtained: Warlaha Turban, Voyager Sallet, O. Hat, Saurian Helm (Macro in after WS, Will sell this

after I obtain Wyrm Helm)
Working on: Askar, Homam, Heca and maybe Ace's Helm.

Q8: I think Heca should be best for WS but which one is the best head piece for TP?

Body:
Obtained: Wyrm Mail, Scorpion Harness, Assault Jerkin, Wyvern Mail (The lvl 50 one, Pet HP + 50)
Currently I use SH for TP and Assault Jerkin for WS, Wyrm Mail for Call Wyvern and Wyvern Mail to

macro in for Healing Breath.
Working on: Askar Body for TP and...... Zahak's Mail maybe, but it's too expensive maybe, not

even to mention about Ares. Also I don't wanna waste money and LS point for Heca.

Hands:
Obtained: Dusk for TP and Heca for WS
Working on: nothing atm, I know Homam is good but I'll target Homam legs first

Legs:
Obtained: AF+1, Barone for Jump
Working on: Homam legs and W.legs for moving speed. Ares Legs on Plan too. N.legs is just too expensive in our LS.
Q9: Maybe have to use AF+1 for both TP and WS for a while, or should I use Barone for WS?

Feet:
Obtained: Relic(Trash I guess), Dusk for TP and Marine F Boots for WS(STR and DEX+3), AF feet for Jump.
Working on: Heca for WS and Aurumn for TP.
Q10: Once I get Aurumn Feet, I wouldn't need Homam Feet, do I?

Q11: Zahak is 75 points, Valkyrie's Fork 100 Points, Love Torque 75 points, Ace's Helm 50 points,
N. leg 125 points. I have 180 ish LS points so far, which one to get first and second?
and... Herald Gaiters 100 points(I know DRG can't use it but no doubt i'll get it if I have the chance)

Q12: How do you rate my equipments? Assuming 100 is full score^^;

Thanks for your time to read this, guess I'd add more questions soon^^
Much appreciate if you can answer my questions, also I'm sorry for my poor English :/

Couple things stuck out to me.
Your merits look good however, if you ever plan to do Nyzul Isle with your drg, you need at least 1 empaty merit. Use it to give wyvern body boost which makes breaths godly.
QUOTE
Q2: Do I need another sub under certain situation? Such as RDM for the 6mp cost Barspells.
Haven't tested yet so idk which sub is the best, /blu is kinda great for solo and I do love it.

/rdm is my sub of choice when cocoon/raise/reraise are not needed, solo or not. Especially when you are healing a whole pt and you need to spam HB. Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Aquaveil, P/S are nice to have, not to mention other nifty spells like dispel (if it hits) and enspells, all of which you can give to wyvern if you have Empathy. Plus your bartriggers help if you change them depending on the mob.

Think about a Seashell for jump, the extra vit is nice. Not to mention it unlocks the quest for Chan gorget.

QUOTE
Q10: Once I get Aurumn Feet, I wouldn't need Homam Feet, do I?

You will always need Homam feet for Healing Breath, whp is the main modifier. Your AF+1 legs are another uber HB piece.

Other than that you have alot of gear I don't so you be better off getting advice from another poster.

Thanks for your advice Diraphe.
I mainly use WHM/SCH for my Nyzul Isle static (Did it from 1 to 100), and my team is used to it already.
So I would seldom be DRG unless I'm joining a /shout team.
So what you mean is that I use body boost -> spirit link -> wyvern get's boody boost too right?
That sounds really great, I will save 3 points of merit points for it, thank you^^

Sorry I forgot about the Bibiky Sealshell, I should get it sometime too, changing ammo wouldn't reset my TP to 0 right?
But what is a chan gorget? Tried to wiki it but no result.

As for Wyvern HP, I think I'll need to get the level 70 necklace too.
I may get full Homam set eventually, but in which order should I lot the 5 pieces?
I'd think legs 1st then really no idea after legs. Maybe should line up for body because it's really hard to get, drop rate sux.

I would really wanna try to be a main healer in a party, but it's hard to get ppl belive I can do this.
They all /panic when not seeing full HP :/

My opinion on the order you should get homam is

1st. Legs (The only other haste legs to DRG is Barbozza Legs and these are quite difficult to get)

2nd. Feet (Huge Acc, most haste you can fit on your feet besides buying Dusk+1 and these come with snazyy Wyvern HP)

3rd. Hands (More Haste, equal to dusk so not as needed as feet, but come with a nice acc boost + no movement down)

4th. Body (Huge Acc, occasional triple attack proc, but DRG's do already have a large amount of acc and there are better bodies out there)

5(0)th. Head (No real use for DRG if you want Haste use W Turban, if you want Acc dont think the 4 on this will make or break you)

Picking out some more questions at random!

Once you have V Fork you wont need Thal or Cletine, atleast i havent found reason to go back to them yet. If you are going to do a zerg and the LS is relying on a random proc from your polearm ... they should just bring a THF to feint the mob!

Drakesbane will be the Weapon Skill you use the majority of the time, and you can work on the gorget for Penta Thrust if you want, but it may just be wasted organs.

Rings , Rajas / Iota is fine for TP, unless your aiming for a DEX build on drakesbane sub in Flame instead of Iota.

Swift belt for TP, i personally use Warwolf for Drakesbane.

If you are meriting for maximum damage you will probably want to choose High Jump merits over Super Jump.

Id keept Homam Feet for TPing in over Aurum, 1% haste is as good as the extra bonus's from Aurum (and Aurum looks fugly!)

Changing ammo loses you no TP, so you can TP in Smart Grenade, switch to Bibiki Shell for Jumps, or switch to Angons, all without losing TP.

I've probably missed a few things and the majority of this is my opinion, but in general you have good gear, and are on the right track to being a great dragoon.

I personally never bothered with /rdm, I just /blu if I need cheap spells or cocoon, otherwises I like /whm for -nas, RR/raise, ports, and etc and No, pretty much post drakesbane you'll almost never want/need to use penta again, also unless you need light for some other reason do flame since it only takes one yovra.

Grip:
Pole Grip all the time.

I'd say uses cletine whenever you planning on drakesbane it's better if you're using it til you get askar body for 6-hit in which case use thal. Also personally I prefer claymore grip for when using drakesbane since it raises average decently.

Gorget and chiv chain decent til love, since PCC isn't cheap and dont need that +str/dex piece for drg really, and ammo fine but if you're elvaan or hume get RSE ammo for ws for the str.
Earrings good, same with back, and ws I'd go w/potent til you cap polearm then should be fine w/warwolf on ws/jumps.

QUOTE
Rings:
Rajas Ring, Iota Ring, Flame Ring
Q7: Rajas Ring full time, Iota Ring for TP and Flame Ring for WS, is that correct?

Working on: Askar, Homam, Heca and maybe Ace's Helm.

Q8: I think Heca should be best for WS but which one is the best head piece for TP?

rings, good but I'd consider using iota for drakesbane depending on how acc heavy your set-up is currently and tp Ace > Askar > turban > Homam[baring stuff where you need acc from o-hat then it behind ace's] , ws heca easily til it O hat or sallet depending on acc.

QUOTE

If LS does ZNM Aurum body is amazing piece for both tping and ws, and unless your acc low I'd tp in AJ when merits finished and for hands thats fine for now, but for wheeling might want to grab pallas/alky, or askar hands to use til homam since dex/haste generally beats dusk's att/haste.

QUOTE

Legs:
barone for wheeling but acc better on drakes, also til homam/ares I'd consider trying for aurum or askar for ws since they bit easier to get and would be slight improvement on tp set. and for feet I'd say homam still better than aurum unless you don't want to spend points I suppose.

QUOTE
Q11: Zahak is 75 points, Valkyrie's Fork 100 Points, Love Torque 75 points, Ace's Helm 50 points,

I'd say fork first assuming you can get a white tathulm for 6-hit, otherwise I'd priority ace's and love torque first then, fork or n legs, then zahak.
I'd say for 100 being near flawless[barring relics and such], I'd rate around a 65~70, you have decent set-up but a lot to improve, and work to.
And I'd agree w/trans about homam priority for drg.

Super jump merits are dumb. There should be no situation where you would honestly need the lower recast on it. If you need super jump in a merit party then the party either sucks, your healers are lazy, or you're doing something wrong. As you can probably guess, the good chance is there's a mix of all three. You're not going to need super jump on HNM. You could make an argument for needing it in Xarc but honestly that shouldn't be an issue at all. High jump is by far the only rational option for tier I merits along side with Jump.

Also, merit STR last. In terms of relative gains STR offers the least improvement. Max deep breathing is a very powerful cumulative tool for your damage. Despite what other people suggest, I would only put 1 into angon and then work on your other merits. Speed capping angon is pretty much for the career DRG who are too proud(dumb/lazy) to level another more useful job. Considering you have WHM and SMN, I doubt you'll be doing much as DRG unless you suck someone off to let you come DRG to a 30 second zerg. Here's a hint, it's not fun.

1 Angon > 1 Deep breathing > 5 High Jump > 5 Jump > 5 Deep Breathing > Rest whatever you want is how I'd do ability merits personally in terms of gaining the most out of my merits the fastest possible.

Don't use smart grenade. At least get a tiphia sting. With your current proposed set up it's going to be difficult for you to maintain capped ACC, 6 hit, and a decent haste with out either tiphia sting or black tathlum. For me for example, I only have capped ACC on Colibri in my WS set up with the inclusion of tiphia sting.

Iota ring is dumb. I can't stand Iota ring. If you need the ACC in the ring slot you most likely need the full ACC from tor or sniper+1. If you don't need the ACC then you can generally get away with blitz ring. There is little reason to having an Iota ring besides telling the world you want to be second rate. You're not reaching any special crit tiers in TP gear while maintaining the most efficient 6 hit set up.

I'd argue Warwolf > Potent but then I have to remind myself, shit's situational.

I'd personally use voyager sallet over wyvern helm until n.head, but maybe I'm missing something.

Aurum feet vs homam feet would depend on other slots of gear. Generally speaking, homam should win out on anything Mamool Nin tier and above.

Same applies for hands compared to dusk.

I don't know what you;'re fighting and your current average ACC gear or dex so I can't tell you if SH is overkill or not. In your situation you probably need the SH all the time.

The most important thing you need to remember is pretty much all gear is situation. There's no possible way to create the perfect set for all situations.

If I were going to rate your gear on a scale of 100 with 100 being the absolute best I could possibly think of, and then made your rating relative to myself. I'd give myself an 80(I'm missing relic, speed belt, and tathlum), and have you somewhere around 40-50. You're lacking pretty much all of the big ticket items that makes the difference between parsing 60% total damage in a merit party and parsing 30% behind the other higher ranked DRG in pt.

And if I were you, I'd save my points for Ace's Helm and N.Legs. Why? Those are the two slots you will see the largest boost in improvement. People stroke themselves over vfork, but in reality it's not that big of a difference. 1 extra base damage and the chance for the gimps to have a true 6 hit. Honestly in the grand scheme of things, even with the marginal increase in DA, it's not that big of a deal. Love Torque is similar, though a bit of a larger increase than vfork. Sure it's possibly 1~2 more acc more than pcharm depending on your total dex, but that's about it. The attack increase is pretty marginal considering ATK food, songs, rolls, etc. People swear by ares legs, but I my n.legs pull pretty much the same numbers as the one other DRG who has almost identical set ups to me except n.legs and ares legs here. N.Legs is a major boost to your WS set. Such a major boost in relative terms compared to all other gear choices you'd cream your pants. Ace's Helm is much the same way. In terms of relative gains, it has vfork and love torque beat. You gain a considerable amount going from Turban to Ace's. Hell, it's even viable to use Ace's as a WS piece too. How's that for functional?

Movement speed would be the worst thing you could spend points on. You don't need it. The few times movement speed allows you to solo something you normally couldn't with out it happens to be things you don't normally solo unless you're looking to brag on forums you spent 3 hours kiting something around.

Ace's first then horde for n.legs. You will not regret that decision.

why the hate on iota it's BETTER than woods/sniper and if he doesn't have gil for cuch mantle[bigger upgrade than tor/sniper +1] I doubt he has gil for them either mellow.gif and I'd agree for ace's first it's great for tp and good on ws til heca, but giving he only has chiv chain atm, love torque will help his dot larger than n legs I think since +5~6 acc/+7 att on tp vs +22 att +8 dex on ws, is tough to say. and I agree about fork it's good but unless pushs you to 6-hit isn't worth over other stuff.

I personally think cuch mantle sucks. I don't know just me, I guess I don't need it.

Iota ring isn't better than Tor ring, which you can get for free.

He can get pcharm for free in two different ways.

...Or he could simply farm?

It's easier to farm money than LS points, or easier to camp Argus or do BCNM. n.legs > love torque in relative gains considering there is no alternative for n.legs besides ares legs.

I didn't say iota was better than tor, I said was better than woodsman/sniper, and Cuch mantle is better pretty any time you aren't capping acc, 8.75 acc for 15~17 att is a good trade, 1 acc is atleast better than 2 att[probably more depending on what you doing].
And tor isn't free even if you have jobs to do solo or duo, you're still giving up cost of not selling it and spending on other upgrades[like PCC, or cuch mantle], if he can get PCC/PCA I agree N legs are better option, but prior to PCC, it's close. And for LS points vs Gil really depends what ls you in, I've had ls where earning points really wasn't that hard, so depends on the system in use.

Not selling tor isn't a cost. If the meds to solo the BC are that big of a deal you can go farm bats in Zitah for 2 nights to break even while keeping the ring. If he wants to be lazy and have pretty much no chance at being top tier then he can get the love torque early and forget about n.legs entirely. I personally wouldn't do it since all getting n.legs means is I go camp Argus today and for the next week or two. Or I can go make 2-5m in about 30 minutes by beating the shit out of people. Giving up on n.legs in favor of torque when pcjarm is extremely easy to obtain is about as dumb as it gets.

WOW so many great replies while I was having a good sleep, thanks so much cool.gif
And congratulations to myself, my best friend just popped Armed Gears and got the Aurum Sabaton for me^^

I'm actually not rich, if not for the Bahamut's Staff I recently got, I wouldn't have be able to found the Assault Earring / Flame Ring / Dusk Hands and Feet. Sold most of my HQ staves, which I've been carrying for long long time. /cry

Good thing is that I got Aurum Sabaton, so I can sell the Dusk Feet and get another 450k back.
A new question is should I still go for Homam feet over hands while I already got Aurumn Feet?

Speaking about N.legs, is it really better than Ares Legs? If not I think I'll still go for Ares, it's not hard for me to get a Salvage Team. But if I get N legs, I will need to wait very long time for Ace/Love Torque/Zahak/Herald Gaiters :/

Got 2mil gil left, guess what I need to buy right now is a Tipha Sting.
And thanks again Tainted, I just found that Tor Ring can be soloed from ur thread...

Get Ace's first, of all the choices you have it honestly has the highest functionality and largest relative gain. And considering it was like 50 points, that's definitely where you want to start.

Homam hands should be your next goal.

I personally love my n.legs, other people swear my ares. It's really a matter of preference. Ares is considerably easier for most people to get compared to n.legs, but they both do the same thing. You won't be able to eyeball the difference and the parser will probably have marginal outcomes based on moon phase or something.

You won't be able to eyeball the difference and the parser will probably have marginal outcomes based on moon phase or something.

I agree excpet for homam legs before hands.

disclaimer: i know ace's is better then askar helm, so dont tell me that.

i'm only saying this because it says you're working on both pieces. the only real difference is a few more acc on ace's. it all depends on your factors really. if you can get askar easily id say wait on ace's for now. i'm assuming you wont be using LS points for askar helm. it may allow you to grab another piece sooner.

if your shell doesn't do KV much though, grab ace's while you can!

then again, my shell broke this week after a 3 year run, so i'd say get what you can while you can.

Yeah that's true... Get what I can get while I can.
My previous Limbus Linkshell just suddenly broke like 1 month ago while it was going very smooth.
Guess what? The reason was that a member who was on a top line of Homam showed up late while we were doing Omega, he asked if he can still wait outside to lot, and the leader didn't have time to think much (we were fighting Omega) and just asked him to wait outside first.

That was all, the guy didn't get to lot, and the leader just lot his shell due to "asking him to wait outside and decide later." I feel sorry for him.
