I haven't gotten the game yet (its on the way) and i am just reading up on stuff. I am very interested in playing a BST because i like the solo aspect of it. But not only am i interested in BST i like the crafting part even though i know its hard. But the whole game seems to be a challenge. What i am trying to get at is, are there certain crafts that will work well with BST and help me along the way? If so what should i pick up?

I'd say cooking.
If you like the solo aspect of beastmaster,it means that you're going to do 0-75 all by yourself without partying with other players.
In other words, you don't have to care about your gear, plus,if you skill up cooking, you won't spent a gil on getting jugs, pet food and regular food for yourself.
Obviously skilling up cooking, like any other craft, requires farming, spending gil on it,and alot of patience.

Awesome, i will look at cooking seems like a great choice. Can you only have 1 craft?
PS. I wouldn't mind grouping if i can. But from what i hear most groups do not want a BSTs....

Cooking's such an easy skill to raise I'd rather save it for a mule.
Since you're free to go wherever you want for xp, rather than having to follow around xp parties, you have a lot more opportunities to farm crafting items while xp'ing. Two good choices are Bonecraft or Leathercraft, since your basic materials will drop mostly from various monsters. Bonecraft is probably the easier of the two, and there are monsters which drop bonecraft materials at all levels.
You can get all of your crafts to 60, but you only have 40 points to spread above that. Most everybody use those 40 points on one skill to cap it at 100. The exception is fishing, which you can get to 100 without limiting any other skills.

Sweet, thanks for the input. Bonecrafting seems interesting, maybe i will give that a try.
Since BST is only available once i get to 30 (if that is correct), what should i level first? White Mage seems like the popular choice...

To be a "complete" bst you should have war whm nin at 37.
Dnc too if you like.
I'd start with blm until lvl 15 (better until you get warp).
Then whm up to 30,do the bst quest and start to exp bst.
Once you feel you had enough of dying at least 5 times a level, get the other jobs xD

sometimes you'll hit a rut, but if you stick with it its pretty cool.
if you're going to level beastmaster, the crafts you can take advantage of the most is bonecraft i'd say. pets kill bones, its like taking a sledgehammer to a sheet of glass really. but there are also a few higher level crafts which require some expensive items which beastmasters can solo
