Why would having a study be an issue, surely you can put your computer in there and play?

I have found that in order to get things really accomplished you need to set out with specific goals in mind before you even log in. Do a little research to figure out exactly what steps should be taken for a long term goal and then create a strategy for small blocks of time in ways to get it done.

For the longest time when I was "playing" the game I would log in and do absolutely nothing productive. Was a waste of time, part of it I believe was the need to have massive amounts of people follow what you wanted to do. Now it feels like you can either go out solo or find paths of accomplishment that coincide with other people's goals so it is much easier to team up.

If you do not have a linkshell support system in place you can usually go out solo to the area that your objective is in and find other people working towards the same or similar ends to team up with.

Gil is something I was never all that great at getting my hands on. You can farm/fish/or NPC cruor items for reasonable chunks to get your self "fed" as it were.

Best thing I can say is to go ahead and log back in to try things out. A lot of people rail on jumping onto the bandwagon, but if you do not strike while the iron is hot you can get left behind pretty easily and it is hard to get some things.

I was in the navy when I started playing this game, so I had to sacrifice a lot of time away from the game to the point where I missed out on most endgame as it was really in it's prime. I do not think I suffered from it nor was I bitter about it, now though I think that it is a lot easier to do almost all of the endgame that abyssea has to offer in low man and pickups. Which makes scheduling a lot easier, and the the time crunch is a lot lower so getting better each log in can be done in a few hours a week if that is all the time you can allocate to playing.

If you did not toss all your r/e gear in a rage quit then you will still have a good base to start on, you never said what levels you had but if you have at least one 75 should not be hard at all to get back into the game and start getting things done. Gil will be found if you were good at it, and at the minimum will keep your basic needs filled while taking the journey.

Most important: have fun and you will get a lot more out of it. When it ceases to be fun for you then it may be time to move on.

I'm not sure where this "Key Whore" activity qualifies as an experience path, especially for someone restarting or even continuing after a lengthy hiatus.

I'll admit, I'm not too motivated to grab one of my lv37 subjobs and shouting in Jeuno for an hour, and I'm not carefree with my gil to buy my way to 75.

I'm not saying it's the worst, but I doubt it's very fun either.

I just don't like hearing people saying "just get to 30 and key whore" as if it was the new minium for Level Sync.

I agree with you Deo, it is not fun, and probably not even possible if you are just starting out, but it is the fastest way to level from 30, FoV is getting a major boost to be able to get large chunks of xp at a time without the once a game day delay. Also just reading they are planning on doubling the xp gain outside of abyssea at the same time so that is another thing to look forward to.

If you notice I did say that they will be gimped out if they only abyssea burn their job and do not take the time to skill up. As far as just speeding through xp goes though it is pretty much the fastest way available now, next would be AB but I only did that once and was not impressed as far as how much xp you gained while waiting your turn to claim the whole zone, following AB I think level sync on any kind of colobri would be next best, whether it is sync down to ronafure [s] level, or sync to 50s in the thickets, or sync to 75 for meritpo style.

One of the biggest draw to xp in abyssea is that you can do it in an alliance and almost every job is accepted if they are contributing in their fashion, albeit this is level 75+ where you can actually have an effect on building lights and killing the mob.

On a side not, I was able to level drk from 37-49 in about 2 hours, had MM atma with refresh so I was also getting really good skill ups in the process.

Not saying it is the end all be all, but it is something.

edit: Also paying to have the privilege to use up cruor on keys in my opinion is dumb, the group I xp with usually allows for a couple of leech/key whore spots, and the rest of us rack up the cruor while they spend it. Although in comparison you should be breaking even based on how much cruor you get while opening chests, we still try and help each other out in order to get people's sub jobs up. I personally am not willing to be in abyssea from the levels 49-75, but that is just my own hang ups, and the time spent skilling up outside of abyssea could be spent leveling old fashion. I really don't level much to begin with though, only have 3 jobs past 75 and only one of them @ 90.

If they double XP outside of Abyssea, AB is going to get up to ridiculous speeds of XP.

Like I said earlier I have only done AB once, and was not impressed. Mainly the issue I found with it is that while it is a great chunk of xp in one fell go, it takes hours upon hours to get a group together, wait for the group to get a sync, wait for the group to get it's turn with the zone, and then wait for the zone pull, finally getting the mobs gathered up you get a shot at them, then done.

I found it really boring, and a waste of time. In comparison all that time spent waiting on AB, you could be in abyssea and gaining xp and lights at ever increasing frequency, and you can do it as long as you want. I still think time spent in abyssea compared to the same time spent getting AB going will yield a better xp yield. Espescially for higher level jobs. To the point where one AB may gain you a level and a half, in the same time you could have gained 2 or 3 or 4 levels in abyssea.

I think this new XP boost they are adding mid month will be great for solo/low man xp parties executed traditionally. Which is great and I look forward to it, I still have a lot of pre-30 leveling to do.

Terrible ABing then. A good AB group could easily net 50k/hr before this update.

So uh.... WTF is this, Audard, how about you leave your personal feelings at the door on this thread, banter was just stating his opinion on current game mechanics, this is a thread about answering questions for new or returning players no need to be a deuche.

Protip for people trying to come back, Audard just pointed out he is the type of player you want to avoid.

So, I've been gone since around the time they announced the level cap (past 75). Long story short, would it be worth it to start again, or even start over? I plan to start playing again after I had gotten things in my life in order, which would be in the next few months, but if I've just been gone too long, and it's not worth it anymore, I'm better off without. I'd like to play, but it's for nothing if I do, and find out it was a bad idea. So, is it?

It depends on how attached to the old endgame content you are. Dynamis is supposed to be getting an overhaul in the upcoming version update, and a lot of other events have died off due to Abyssea. If you're willing to give Abyssea a try, you may enjoy it. Leveling has changed a bit too, xp from Abyssea can be insane, and they even boosted xp rates outside of abyssea.

I wasn't too big on the whole End-game extravaganza, so it's not too big of a deal for me. I usually went on them during pick ups, so I don't see that changing much. Abyssea, I'd love to give a try. All the leveling changes sound nice too. I guess I'll see what happens in a few months, try for a month or so, and see what happens. I just hope so much hasn't changed to a point that I'm lost when I hope in.

First time playing in about seven years. I told friend to clean out account before I left so I'm back with some BLM 50s AF gear and 6,000 gil. Any starting tips for some minor gil earning?

Been quite some time since I left FFXI for WoW. I have missed playing this game and might be interested in coming back. Not sure how well that wil turn out, since hte server I use to be on was merged with a different one.

If it has become easier to solo EP and DC, I would love to return. Beats spending housr on end waiting for a group, only to have it fall apart 10 seconds after it gets formed. Those drove me away, Had a few characters that had one or two jobs at 75. . . I think when I did finally leave the cap was raised, but I didn't get too interested in it. I think that was last year sometime, but I only looked around for a few minutes to see what's been going on there.

They have made exp very easy to get since abysses was introduced.
Gounds of Valor - This is system where you sign up and kill X number of specified enemies. After you meet the required objectives you get an exp bonus ranging from 500-3000exp (depending what training regime you pick).

Abyssea - I don't know how fun it would be soloing at 75, but if you're in an alliance it can go quite fast.
EXP starts low (can start at 0 if your with 95s) and builds up to 600+ depending on mob. You can also partake in Dominion Ops and get even more exp in your party.
Lastly, if you don't even want to play you can pay a leech party and AFK your way to 95.
