HQ Tiers Yeah... /sigh

I'll make this brief since I know this is one of those topics that's been seen a billion times over and is probably extremely annoying to most people here.

In THEORY, since I don't know whether it's been proven or not with the incredibly lolrandom system of crafting, what constitutes a tier percentage of HQs? I've heard it referenced before, your skill is say, 30, when the synth is 10, so you have a __% better chance of getting a HQ. But I don't know what that percentage is and how much skill is involved. Is it 10% per 10 points of skill over the cap?

Also, does anyone really know if more ingredients in the synth make a HQ more difficult? I've always found that synths break more often and HQ less if it involves a ton of ingredients, but I don't know for sure. And if so, does the game consider multiples of the same item as seperate ingredients (like 2 cotton cloths)?

/sigh Chances are most of this is completely unknown, but I figured I'd ask. :S

I'm 0/49 on Lamia Kamans+1, a Tier 1 synth, it has 3 materials. I'm 2/5 on weskits, they have 8 materials. I highly doubt number of materials has any effect what so ever. (Insert comments about not enough testing, placebo effect, its your perception etc). I am curious as to why you "have found that synths break more often..." though. I'm guessing you have never recorded any data and your perception of the situation is awkward?

My guess would be that people always remember the bad things over the good (read: big breaks over the small successes).

Items that have a lot of ingredients usually have a subcraft or two, which would increase the break percentage. Maybe that's it?

Not in my experience.

From my understanding, each craft involved has it's own break check.

Meaning if something was Smithing & Goldsmithing, you would have to check your Smithing against the synth and then your Gold against the synth. Failing either check will result in a break. So, in essense, you would have a higher chance to fail on multi craft synths.

I mostly noticed the several-item synth breaks during my stint with Cooking. Usually to skill up you'd synth something with 1-3 ingredients, but once in a while, you'd either get a test item or something else with 7-8 items and they'd inevitably go kablooie on me. No, I don't have any record of what the gap was between my skill and the skill cap of the item, or how often it actually happened, blah blah. I desperately try to maintain the sense of the game being a game and not a math equation or job... It too often feels like both. So, yeah, call it a placebo effect or whatever you like. It quite possibly is. My whole LS still insists on turning in a specific direction when they synth, and even waiting for a specific day and moon phase to skill up.. Whatever turns your crank, I guess.

Isent this how break synthing works. Ive read about alot of woodworkers break synthing to 100 by having an under leveled smithing sub and attempting iron splitters so they would break but get skill ups with WW but try and save the adaman ingot for the synth. Me personally I made staurobow's to get to 100 (camped that damn cat for 2 months stright every day to cap out lol)

camping the AH, luckly it was right after the damn things jumped from 5k to 40k a pop and i stock piled them knowing i was the only one camping flauros lol. people stoped npc'ing them so i was actually able to buy them. hell right now their going for 80k on my server. I know another friend of my that got 100 almost the same way but he wasent camping the nm, at the time the horns were going for 5k and ppl would npc them instead of putting them on the ah and he was having a hell of a time getting them. but on the other hand he was making 60k profit per bow, compared to me breaking even.
