I dunno, that whole "This is not optional" thing suggests that you need to trade the damned bug.

how so when it says you can kill NM before trading it?

I've never gone longer than 3 fishing attempts, and I've always traded him the bug first. So yeah. (Have redone the quest 3 times so I could store NQ and HQ boots ;

You can pop the NM before trading it. It can just take a long time before you are able to fish it up. Took me almost an hour of fishing because I kept fucking up when I would catch things.

tried for 30 mins and not even a bite , im not sure how you can scew up getting a bite, illl see how it works out after trading i guess
