on odin there are seriously 200 whm 75 online at all times ._.
how does a newbie whitemage get into the endgame scene as a whitemage?
white mage is obviously amazing at mainhealing especially now with afflatus, but there are just so godamn many whm =__=
is it hard to be one of so many?
i know there are a lot of whm 75 but 9 out of 10 will suck at it.. so maybe there's that going for me wink.gif
meh.

210 on Siren atm, but we never have people that actually want to come Whm to an event. lol
Been a while since I was on Odin, but I think it was the same from linkshells I was in.

Because most events the WHM gets thoroughly abused, overworked and usually gets crap drops if any. Just not worth it.

p.s. Odin sux!

Most Noob WHM's i've seen have had the luxury of being PL'd from level 10-50ish, Then expecting a RDM to main heal for the most part of the parties..*Silly and absurd sounding i know, but I've seen it ._. * If a new WHM doesn't have a friend that's been there and done that then they'll be very lost lol. I bet half the WHM's on my server don't even know that +VIT actually helps your cure spells. Good WHM's are few and far between, More sucky ones than good ones nowadays it seems.

Cool, it'll be nice to be a part of the "good-whms-club" ;]
so... how much +VIT are we talking here? > > I read that +10 VIT is equative to +10 healing magic skill but that seems really broken o_O?
expound pls. PM is fine too. ty smile.gif

Formula
(Healing magic skill / 3) + ((VIT/2)+1) + ((13/9)*MND) + 404 + (MND-119). Note that the effect of Cure potency enhancing items goes into effect after this. For example, with 306 Healing magic skill, 64 VIT and 100 MND, a Cure V would do 683 without any Cure potency gear. With a Light Staff (Cure potency +10%), it would do approximately 751. It should also be noted that your numbers can be different on Lightsday/Darksday, as well as anywhere with Light/Darkness weather.

NOTE: The "(MND - 119)" only applies when it's greater than zero.

lol, I'm glad my cures don't do -119~ That would defeat the purpose of whm, no? rofl.

Okay, well, as a taru should I even bother then? I'd rather just stack MND, Cure potency% and MP than hopelessly try adding VIT to a freaking taru whm/sch~ sigh~ lol. Thanks a lot for the information, please get back to me on the taru situation tongue.gif

ninja edit:
wow, elvaan must produce some really really powerful cures with all of that vit and MND wink.gif too bad they can only cast cure V a few times before being completely depleted, lawl

I had to blink when I read this title.

However, to the question on how a devoted whm has an easier time getting into the higher end endgame scene:

- Have all conventional subs.
/BLM, /SCH and to a lesser extent /SMN and /RDM.

- Have a few non-conventional subs.
/DRK, /WAR, /NIN.
Even though /NIN is for solo fun mostly, /DRK is handy if you're short on stunners at for example Cerberus or Khimaira.
/WAR to help your linkshell claim as voke is faster then Flash, Dia or Holy.
This by all means is not necissary, but will help you when applying to a shell.

- Access to things
Complete all expansions, without at least sky and sea you will not get in any high end endgame shell. At all!
In a lesser extent have all your recall spells and fast access to all past areas.

- Have some vital pieces of gear at your disposal.
Most endgame shells expect you to have at least a barspell set, which means you'll have to do some Dynamis runs for Cleric's Pantaloons and Cleric's Duckbills if you do not have them.

- Have merits that make sense.
With whm it's pretty hard to screw up merits as all of them have their uses but even that some people know to.
Don't expect to get accepted unmerited and don't lie about them.
They may not notice in the first place, but eventually they will notice in your performance compared to other white mages.

- Stick out of the crowd.
Don't just say you know your shit, show you know your shit.
One example is having cured your party/alliance member of whatever status effect before they even have a chance to squeek.
Those 200 whms you see online?
Multiply that number with two and a half at least to get an indication of the actual amount of people with whm leveled to 75 playing on your server alone.
You'll have to prove that you are on par with or better then every single one of them.
At least 175 of those 200 on whm also have other useful endgame jobs.
You can use that to your own advantage.

- Of course have all your spells.

- Lastly and likely the most important thing which can give you a little leeway on what I said above.
It is not always what you know, it's who you know.
If you know a few people in the high end endgame scene that are willing to vouch for you, it'll be a little to a lot easier to get accepted in their groups.

Three words:
Labyrinth of Onzozo

Followed by another three words:
Kuftal Tunnel Basement

80% of today's whms never had the teachings of those zones.

I leveled in those zones. My WHM was probably in the top 10% of NA players on midgard to reach 75. I got there with a gimped sub, only partial AF, pre-exp/lvl nerf, and no exp rings or signet bonus's. I bit and clawed my way to 75 like a Denny's chef friday night without any kitchen utensils.

i still have nightmares about Guivre after all these years.

I never had them, either, and I'm still better than most. If you need to go through a baptism by fire to play a video game adequately, maybe you should stick to tic-tac-toe (note: general you, not specific).

Shirai is absolutely correct.

Thanks for taking the time to type all of that out, it is a good guide for those who like end game.

At the same time it is pathetic that players are subjected to that kind of scrutiny in a video GAME that is supposed to be for enjoyment. What you just described is more work and more detailed than most people playing the game have had to do for a job in the real world, the only thing not mentioned is how to attach the resume and list of references.

It is sad that all the time and effort of leveling and missions and quests over the years lead up to applying to, sucking up to and proving yourself to a group of people with way too much free time so that you can join them. At what reward? Being able to reject others from that group because you deem yourselves "better"?

I did some Dynamis runs for a while and my group continually were the ones still alive after a massive wipe and if they did die were the first ones up and rarely had health in the yellow only because I paid attention and I would get tells from people saying OMG how did you do that or how could your group not die ect. It's sad that some WHMs have given all WHMs a bad rep so that me just doing my job impressed people. I did all of that before I ever merited, before the new spells and with only Blessed Gear, no high dollar "look at me" gear.

I respect the fact that in the clique that is end game people are impressed with all of the gear and merits but it should not be a general guide that people are led to believe is where they have to go in game if they want to be successful.

A good WHM is one who wants to be a WHM and who plays the job well, not the one with the biggest or shiniest toys.

Yes, I wandered off of the original topic, sorry. Flame away.

Honestly, all it boils down to is being a good whm.
People will notice. There's tons of god-awful whm, and as long as you're above and beyond (in skill, not som uch gear, but gear is important), people will take notice.

Also, LoO was hardcore. I had to do paralyna two times through that shit hole, as blm and whm. -.-

No offense Path, but as I see you regular about every jobforum on KI and I know for a fact that you have been around for quite a while;
How many jobs have you taken to 75 before they introduced ToAU?
(Or better said, how many jobs did you take through Onzozo/Kuftal?)

I am not saying all the whms that leveled the job post ToAU are specifically bad, it is just a sad fact that the majority of them are nothing more then lazy curetanks.
And the most whms I know that do know their shit are mostly the ones that have taken at least one job, wether it be whm or not, through those places.
Once again, I'm not saying all of them that haven't are bad but a lot of them are.

That sucks. I think I did one or two parties there then refused to go back.
