I think the topic says it all.

Most of these post originated from high school kids who have to prove to the world how intelligent they truly are and thus feel the need to regurgitate this information back out onto Internet forms and fight it out with anyone who argues with them.

I was one of these so called high school kids, and i thought i knew everything, then i graduated from university, and thought i knew everything, then i did my master and then my Ph.D. and realized that in truth, i know nothing, and guess what, neither do you.

My Field of research is Immunopathology, to put it simply, how and why humans get sick, and how and why we defend ourselves from it and what can we do to aid in the bodies defense.

The curse of the Internet is that, anyone figures they can go, read a few articles online and suddenly understand how X pathogen works, i know, i thought like that as well. But guess what, its so incredibly complicated that you cannot even begin to piece together the multitude of variables that are associated with these things, so stop, go get an education, then come back and post your brains out if you feel the need to flex your intellectual muscle.

Stop providing false information, and misleading the general populous, stop assuming that you know what your talking about if all you've ever took was a high school biology class, or 1st year biology in some university somewhere, or worse, because you read it on Wiki, or some other web page.

I don't care if you studied a million pieces of online information for 2 weeks straight, and figure you have it all under control..... people spend their LIVES on certain things, and will openly admit they still don't understand everything, and these are people who publish in journals of science, which I'm pretty sure you didn't read, nor understood if you did, because I've been doing this for 8 years now and some of it has me going to my text books still.

I'm not even overly sure why I'm bothering to post this, i guess its anger driven? it's irrelevant, and i understand completely that this is just another Internet post, of some random guy, for some online game, and who you can never prove that I'm educated in the way that i am, and is just more then likely a loudmouthed asshole (which is true).

But thats just the point, there is no way for me to proove any of it, its a goddamn internet forum and im just some joe blow no one, its just a basic post stating that people should stop posting about things they no nothing about.

I 100% aware that it should be posted here, but it was more relevant in that forum due to the posts about swine flu, and HIV/AIDs and what have you.

Wow, for someone with a Ph.D, you aren't particularly bright. I thought my new avatar would've given it away, but my entire swine flu thunderdome-hysteria thread was inspired by (and much of the content lifted directly from) an episode of 30 Rock. Now having had to explain it, its lost what little cache it did have to begin with, so, thank you Mr. Pretentious, for fucking up my bit of fun.

I bet it IS anger-driven, at having spent so many years squirrelled away behind impossibly large textbooks nobody cares about, simply to discover you're not only as impotent as the rest of us in the face of a public health emergency, but also woefully out of touch and completely incapable of identifying the most over-the-top sarcasm. The day people can't debate and discuss to figure things out is a sad day. Why in god's name should we not discuss something if we don't understand it. That's lunaticery (I patent that word bitches. I'm all for people expressing their opinion. What I don't find appropriate is those people who feel that their opinions are far superior to anyone else who may have one. If you want your opinion respected than you need to respect the opinion of someone who doesn't agree with you.

Daemonous I think you have a point in saying that there are a lot of people (whether it's on a forum or in everyday conversation) who spew a bunch of useless bullshit at you after reading the morning's paper. I agree that if you are going to discuss something than you really need to know more about what you are discussing to begin with.

Rhetoric isn't worthless, it is THE skill to have. I'd say its more valuable than being able to do calculus, and unlike my highschool math teacher, I don't have to stumble around for examples as to how its applicable in everyday life.

No I'm not bad at it I just pick and choose my battles. Something like this is not worth arguing about simply based on the fact that a majority of people see this post as baseless and won't listen even if you had something constructive to say.

I respect everyone's skill, I just think a fine line has to be drawn. If you really wanted to get down and dirty and nitpicky; I could of said the only reason a lot of people say what they say is because they don't have enough confidence in themselves and have to put others down to make themselves feel better. People are so unsatisfied with their real lives cutting others down is there only satisfaction.
