Fast cast macro question

I finally got a loquacious earring, and since I've never leveled a mage job or owned any fast cast gear before, I wanna be sure I'm using it properly. I remember reading about how fast cast should be macroed at either the beginning of the spell or the end, but I don't remember which. If it's the beginning, would this work?

/equip ear2 "Loquacious Earring"
/ma "Utsusemi: Ichi" <me>
//exec idle.txt (removes the earring again)

Are any /waits required in there?

I tried testing myself, but since the bonus is barely noticeable anyway, it was difficult to tell whether it's working.

Thanks.

I think you only have to have your haste gear on for whenever the spell goes off so yeah that should be fine.

Fast Cast is... interesting. You need to have Fast Cast equipped at the start of casting in order to reduce cast time, and you need it equipped when the spell finishes to reduce recast time. Personally, I use a separate macro to swap in my "idle" gear once I'm certain Utsusemi has finished casting.

Ah, that's kind of annoying. @.@ As an alternative to having a separate macro, could I include a wait for the length of the casting time (i.e., 4 seconds)? I see that being kind of annoying too though if I have to hit another macro within those four seconds because it might screw up the swap.

I do that, and it does screw up the recast if you swap out before the macro finishes on it's own, but it's the best method that I've found so far.
