I'm a Taru Pld/War, just wondering what everyone's insight on it is...(This will be a good argument smile.gif)

I'm only lvl 10 at the moment...but i have Vit+2 rings and Warrior Belt+1 along with Physical earrings (25 MP to HP) waiting.

I hear it can be made to work, as long as the right paths are taken

You should find this thread quite informative. Taru are considered the worst PLD by people who are "logically" thinking but have never grouped with one. Some people who have grouped with them think Taru own. The only PLD I grouped with recentlly other than myself was a hume in the teens and he was pretty good. The only thing I can tell you is we make lots of friends if you know what you are doing. I get a lot of requests for group invites the second I log on and I do not even have LFG flag up. These are 50% from people I have grouped with and the rest of the people I do not know. I believe on one occasion I went to meet a PT in crawlers nest and when I arrived the BLM warped out becuase I was Taru. He was obviously very ignorant because I was doing awesome chaining IT's after he left. Funny people can disrespect you as a Taru PLD yet half the time its like elvaan BLM or something. I warned my Linkshells and blacklisted him immediately. So yeah you may run into some arrogant, ignorant people who have no appreciation for what that mammoth MP bonus can do.wink.gif

Dont belive the hype...Taru can be a pally. Dont quit to be a mage...keep tanking. If you actually compare the vit of the different races, ITS NOT THAT BIG OF A DIFFERENCE.
ex.
Vit.
lvl 1 Hume 9
lvl 1 Taru 9
lvl 1 Elv 10

lvl 25 Hume 31
lvl 25 Taru 30
lvl 25 Elv 33

lvl 50 Hume 54
lvl 50 Taru 51
lvl 50 Elv 57

lvl 75 Hume 77
lvl 75 Taru 74
lvl 75 Elv 82

hmmmm....not that much different huh? There is a slight drop off in hp, but the pallys life should never be below 35-40% if the mages are doing their job. I am a lvl 46 hume pally. I partied with a taru pally of the same lvl a few days ago, and he did every bit as well as I did. We took turns being the main tank, and the party never droped a beat. I've found that Hume is indeed a good race for pally, but honestly, I think all of the races can be. The taru also has a TON of mp....over twice that of the elvaan. And let's not forget that defense which also is very important, is dependant on armor, lvl, and job...not race. Just because you are a taru, doesnt mean that you have paper thin, "mage-like" defense. You might run into some people that dont like the idea of a taru pal..but that is foolish, and you probably would not want to party with those people anyway. So keep on tanking little guy...and dont belive the haters!

See..thats what i thought...I talk to lvl 40+ taru pld/war's a lot..and they say they are "prefered" over other plds because they have a lot of MP also to keep the hate on them..i'm lvl 12 now and havent had any trouble with hate AT ALL. I usually only have to voke right at the beginning off the puller then i can do MOST if not ALL of my healing, which makes the whm's job alot easier.

Lots of ppl are really bias against taru pld's but i'm tellin you it works out pretty decent considering i have 22 Vit at lvl 12 : (food)

Thx Knivess!! Made my day! smile.gif

There's also other things to consider. tarus have the worse mind, more suceptable to Status. And they have lower CHR than hume/elv, so provokes not as effective(but the MP makes up for that). STR is also lower, granted it's not that big of a deal, but PLDs still deal good damage and tarus spend too much time healing to really get hits in. I'd prefer Elv/Hume PLD over taru, but I'd still take one if they knew how to play.

Not so fast...Taru mind is only 3 points less than a hume at lvl 75. Again, it comes out to a small difference. Your healing magic skill will also be capped(at least it should be), so your cures will be maxed regardless of mind. As for strength...I was lvling in Quicksands the other day, fighting a beetle. I hit it only 3 times the whole fight...for a total of 6 dmg (excluding weapon skill). So my strength meant jack squat...but I held agro the whole time. As for chr...IT IS THE SAME. Mithra and Galka have less chr...Not Taru. It is the same as hume and elvaan.

Taru can be Paladin, but it takes a lot more effort then other races. I've grouped with them, honestly haven't seen a good one, but that is more skill of the player then race. Basically a Paladin should only burn enough MP that they can recover at least a good part of what they used while waiting for the next pull. You will rarely see a Paladin use all their MP to begin with so extra MP isn't as important unless you are in a really bad situation.

Bad idea doing all your healing as a PLD if you have a WHM, you want to do enough to keep hate, but not too much because then you use up too much MP. A WHM can rest during a fight if need be, but a Paladin can't.

Well, with all the recent hume/mithra whm's i've seen their MP pool isn't enough to last through a long battle, therefore, half the time they're down and healing..and if i were a hume/elvaan pld..i would've been SOL at that lvl cuz they don't have aas much MP as me...I'm only lvl 12..but i've been invted to parties higher than me (13-14) to do snippers and tank for them...the whm would run out of MP WAY early and i'd finish the battle using 3/4 of my MP...(the whm was only cure I'in the whole time..maybe cure II once...) You can't say we lacked dmg..cuz we had a rng and a blm...so idk

I'm basically convinced that taru/hume/elf are all good plds and tarus can be made to work if u know how to do it.. smile.gif

(i'm also not trying to say taru's are better than humes or elves, don't want to start a war between races tongue.gif)

Don't really know how I would compare. I was soloing Very Tough, Tough, and Even Goblins for the levels you would be doing clippers. I could do 2-3 without running out of MP. Sure it isn't efficient as killing easies, but it was a lot of fun since there was risk involved. Even when the WHM runs out of MP, I never end up using that much. Then again the situation is different, so I really can't compare it too well.

i'm lvl 14 now(27 vitality) and today we went on and took an IT butcher/IT ambusher/VT snipper/VT Butcher/VT busher before our party had to go into down time...i had only used half my MP and the whm was 78/170 MP...IDK...seems decent to me...but You are atm better cuz i can only do up to Even match/high defense when soloing..

Its a give and take. I have a friend that IS trying a taru pld and the difference is there. That vit does help. Why else do people fight over rings that just give you a couple points or The Sword Named Gluttony. Having that extra HP window is easier to cure and the vit helps absorb damage. Like every race its a give and take. I have always felt safer with a Hume or Elvaan and a Galka is a damage matress with all of their HP and VIT.

Maybe you'll keep hate better but he'll absorb better in the long run. Notice that you said "with food", if he adds food he'll be even better.

Hm...Afija you may want to check your statistics...Because I'm pretty sure that Taru and Hume have the same Charisma, which is greater then all the other races...Also Mind only helps max your cure spells faster for if you don't have enough healing skill to do so otherwise, just to let you know =P

Anyways, Taru pally's are great because w/ their mp, even if they do take more damage, they can heal themselves the amount of extra they take more, so it counter-balances itself.

ignore afija, he likes to talk about charisma even though the differences between races has almost no bearing at all on the ability of a tank to hold hate.

as for chr, hume elv and taru are exactly tied with the higher chr with galka and mithra tied for the lower.

There has never been any definitive proof that CHR is tied to provoke. If there is, post them.

The best way to do this would be to have two PLD's of equal level in the same party. One with CHR enhancing food and equip and the other with anything that could decrease CHR (rse, items, food, ect). Do this test about... 20 times. I'd like to know the results or any imformation so this issue is put to rest.

My opinion, taru pld is a cause of concern when I play. Hume or Elvaan with Refresh has more than enough MP to keep them going.

taru have no problem with hate.. the only problem they have is the huge WS and high level spells with BS damage aka sickle slash, exoray thing , quake, flood, flare, fire III. They die a bit faster especially if they're interrupted when trying to heal themselves tongue.gif

but again..this can be taken care off easily.. pick another spot to level.. or buy expensive stuff tongue.gif

If you take the effort to be good at your job, keep your equipment up to date as well as your spell list there's no reason why you can't be just as good or better then most other tanks.

Ignorant people = bad gaming experience. Screw 'em if they don't want a taru tank, that's their loss because you'll be getting invites left and right.

Just keep these things in mind when there's a Galka WHM or a Hume BLM looking for PT. 8)
