My one piece of advice for any Taru Paladin is this, always have an Obi +1 (Spell Interruption Down 8%-I forget how high they go maybe 20%).
However, to be honest there are times when you will not be able to cast (Silence, Paralyze, two mobs attacking you, out of MP, MP Absorbtion, Aspir). This is the most dangerous part of being a Taru melee. Worms for example do both silence and MP Absorbtion.
As long as you are competent and well equipped then more power to you, but you do have to deal with the greater risks associated with the job.
Charisma does have a big effect on hate, I was playing around with my GS in a group (I have 7 less defense then a WAR so they made him the tank, rather then pointing out I was a Paladin, I thought I'd just mess around with GS). When I had my CHR rings on every hit swung hate at me, but when I had my DEX rings I only would get hate after criticals or a good weapon skill.
Taru PLD?

Keep trucking all mighty tanker. I would party with a taru pld, but then again ive had a elvaan whm heh. but FYI taru's are decent in pretty much all jobs. I was actually even debating on starting over to do Taru drk (wouldn't take long being a whm taru. always in demand) but i dont think its worth it, just keep doing what your doing and have fun =)

The main flaw with Taru PLD as someone else said is that if you take a monsters weapon skill it from like an exoray or something you are pretty much toast..... even us Humes have problems with those.
I know you can use those rings that turn your MP into HP... but I don't like using stuff like that... I would rather use a ring that had +1 anything on it than one that just moved stats around.
People say "just avoid the areas with monsters with large weapon skills..." well... YOU CAN'T. Exorays and other thinsg are not hunted for exp... they are hunted for quests.... quests a PLD need to complete. Isn't Exoray part of the lvl 50 limit breaker? That makes it really hard to avoid.
However if you have a cool linkshell and can do limit breakers with an alliance or with a couple of people over lvl 50 you wouldn't really have a prob.
The Taru that says Taru PLD are the best... well... he is a Taru... ignore him... of course his job and race are the best.
I am just saying... Large enemy weapon skills are what keep Taru PLD from being as accepted as the other PLD races... and to think about that.

Well, if Hume PLD has problem against Exoray, then Hume may not be a race for PLD either... ^^
Why? Because you will encounter much stronger monsters (ie, Lich/Quake, Spriggans/Dimensional-Death, Spiders/Sickle-Slash, Tomb-Mage/Flood, Tonberry/Throat-Stab, Ahriman/Flare...etc. I am not including AF3 mobs here...) that can also kill an Elvaan PLD in 1~2 hits easily. Therefore, it doesn't really matter if you are a Taru PLD or Galka PLD.
It coems down to one thing: PLD will only survive from all the abuse if he/she is in a good balanced party. It doesn't matter if he/she is an Elvaan, Taru, Hume, Galka or Mithra. Each race has its own way to survive in the battle (ie, Taru with tons MP to cure, Galka has tons of HP, Mithra has high evasion...etc).

I partied with a Taru- Paladin yesterday and let me tell you.... anyone who thinks taru paladin suck are smokin something.... We were in the quicksands and we tried this new party idea. We had 2rdm whm 2blm pal.. all but one were taru-taru. with 5 MAGES constently casting spells the mobs didn't even glance our way. All that hate and the mobs didn't even know we were there..
Was one of the most fun partys i have ever been in (this party will probably not work later on in game) but the best thing i found about our paladin taru-taru was the amount of times he could use flash... he was paladin with almost 300mp.. it was crazy
I recomend heavily trying this party at level 44 in quicksands caves...

Does this mean that we can ignore all the Hume and Elvaan PLDs that keep saying they're better then a Taru PLD as well? Or is there something else that makes your opinion worth more then this?
I'm an Elvaan Thief...and i've been saying that it depends more on Skill then Race to be a good Paladin. But it's like everyone's ignoring what I say and are still saying that Hume or Elvaan Paladin are better. And it's usually a Hume or Elvaan Paladin that's saying this...makes you wonder. If we're supposed to ignore everyone's opinion, who's opinion ARE we supposed to take seriously?

Sorry for long post.
Well, after reading this whole discussion yesterday I was blessed with the opportunity last night to compare my abilities to that of an Elvaan pld. I have about 625-650 HP and about 350 MP. The elvaan had about 950ish HP and about half of my MP(like 180?). Upon visual inspection of armor was wearing same BP, legs and helmet. I was lev 45, she was 46 and then dinged 47. We kind of took turns tanking... Kind of. I was MT for about 75-90% of the entire battle. I noticed her getting hit much harder than myself. Especially on the hornflys, they were landing crits more often on her and even regular blows were higher. So an effort to conserve as much MP as possible I was MT most of the time except for when other PLD was using sentinal. Also had other PLD pulling because of less MP.
So anyway I am feeling like we have a very badass group and I suggest trying an exoray. (Note: BTW no one on this thread mentioned anything about exorays yesterday :/ ) Anyway , so far we owning Hornflys, blazer beetles 150-200 xp chain non stop and killing soldier crawlers to kill time for respawns.. I just rest in between pulls to get mp back. So other PLD runs out to find an exoray. Turns out its the first time for everybody. I am still feeling pretty confident but not 100%. So anyway, other pld brings the exoray to camp. I am watching damage numbers pop up. one-two hits 79, 125? or something like that. My heart sinks. I grin and bear it and pull off other pld when her life drops very quickly to about 500 life. Surprisingly, when its on me its only hitting for 50-60 range. It got lucky and crit me once for like a 100 but it was only once in many rounds. So anyway I am fighting this thing and doing sweet(I am feeling very badass at this moment, freaken uber bitch, I was so happy) got the thing to about one quarter life and then it happened. I drop dead from what looked like a good chunk of my life.
I am kind of stunned for a sec. A couple of other people run the famous "WTF" down my PT chat window..
I scroll up and what do I see. The infamous exoray special ability. "Silence Gas" hit me for about 500 damage and a normal 60 damage stacked before it.
Now, first off. I can see why no one is ever xping off of these. Secondly the same thing could of happened to ANYBODY whos current HP was in the 500 range. Sure my chances of being in that range are greater but I never let my life drop below 400 HP. This was totally unexpected. I do not consider anything that can belt out instantly near 500 damage to be consider XP material at level 45.. All it takes is the hate to slip for even 1/15th of a sec with any ability like that and you will have on your hands a dead caster. I seen it happen millions of times in the lower levels with the lovely bat ability "jet stream" I leveled my whm to 33 so I know all the woe's of this kind of crap going wrong for a split second.
P>S>> I also found a Crawlers Nest key off a hornfly last night. My friend said it was for a coffin. She didnt know anything else. The description says it goes to a treaure chest. DOes anyone know anything about this? What do I get for it? Is it quest related?
Thanks

I've seen some things rip all the MP from WHM and BLM, so it isn't unrealistic for it to happen to a PLD. I've also seen 1000 damage done (to a Galka Monk who had 1200-1500 HP can't remember it was a while ago). All the races have pros and cons with being a Paladin (or any job for that matter).
The only thing with Taru is their race's most major con is the most important area of Paladin. You will be leveling off things which paralyze, silence, steal MP, and do massive one shots; and there isn't much a Taru Paladin can do to prepare for that.
Basically I'm saying having 8 more MP doesn't mean you have 30 more HP because you can cast Cure once. It means you can get 30 more HP if you manage to cast it.
As for holding hate, I've seen Warriors and even some melee hold hate reliably (I've even seen one Ninja do it reliably pre-level 20 though). That's just how good you are with tanking. Paladin is the best at holding hate, but a good player in other jobs can do it pretty well.

I ran out of MP because our party of whm/blm/sam/thf/pld/brd had taken on a Chain#5 all IT's....I did most of my curing so that left the whm with about 70-178

Crawler's Nest Key is for RDM AF2 or you can get money or items from it.
Silence Gas only did 500 damage? You got lucky, I've seen Silence Gas ramp up to 975 damage or so and there is little way to survive that. Most often a Hume or higher Paladin will survive but even they can die. There's been posts before on enemies that can almost 1 shot a Hume or Elvaan Paladin at times. Taru are even more succeptable.

Taru taking less damage than Elvaan? I find that hard to believe, ecspecially when he is one level higher and you're both wearing the same equipment (Guessing the ELV also had WAR subjob?).
That just doesn't make ANY sense. You could hold hate better, you could cure more often, but there is no way you could take less damage, unless ELVs are weak to funguars or something.

TaruTaru paladins/whm are amazing....at the higher lvl they may lose provoke.....but the can still get the aggro pretty damn well with cure 3....or divine seal and curaga....they may not take hits as well...but since they subed whm they can use blink and stoneskin and use there cure 3 on anyone who needs it...also cover helps a bit....and you cant forget about divine seal+curaga...keeps the party alive and makes the mob aggro to you..and those moments when you didnt want to get aggro from some monster cause you rwhm had no mp....use stonskin/blink and keep on curing.....
Although the problem is you might be wasting too much mp in one battle if you dont know when to use these spells.....but i think the best paladin depends on the player and his/her skills
Hello! Can anyone on Bahamut server give me a world pass?

why does afija keep posting this crap? the difference in their vit has already been compared, its next to none. with a few better pieces of armor or some food a taru pld would easily take less damage / hit than an elvaan pld.

The elvaan was still one level higher, and they had the same equipment. That means there is no fucking way the Taru takes less damage. Food or no, there's no way a taru can take 60 less damage than an elvaan when they are almost IDENTICAL except for the race issue.
It just makes no sense, and FYI I don't think I've brought VIT up....have I?

well the fact that you didnt bring up vit shows that you dont know what youre talking about....if the tarutaru had a lot of +VIT and the elf didnt for some reason....not to mention the first hit was 72 maybe the 100something one was a critical? anyways youll probably bring up charisma or talk about how damage taken never varies or something stupid so bye
oh what the hell are we talking about what group has 2 plds anyways?

This has nothing to do with CHR since the taru was a PLD/WHM, dumbass. And the poster said that their equipment was the same, so their VIT boost would be identical.

From what I've seen Tarutaru Paladins are Very workable if you keep your gear up to date. In fact alot of what I've heard states that the best PLDS on midgard are Tarus. In my opinion it all goes down to how you are going to play them. As a galka, you have more HP but suffer in the MP category, humes are middle of the road and can take their character in either direction, Tarus have lower HP maxes inherently but much higher MPs. After around lvl 20, PLDs stop hitting so much (its absolutely noticeable the difference at this point, IE You can't deny they don't do the damage that the damagers in a group do) So to holy the hate they start relying more on healing themselves. With their higher MP amounts, taru's can burn some good healing off on themselves to help out the whm AND maintain hate. Plus the higher lvl ones I talked to say they evade WAY more than any other race does and that was their main reason for the taru PLD/war character. In short for my opinion at least, the ONLY problem I have had in grouping with a taru-PLD was that their HP limits ARE a bit lower, and as a whm I have to be extra on my guard to not let them drop too low, as they don't have the safety band so to speak that other races might have.

First off I agree with the evasion concept.. At 46 now my evasion is maxxed and with my parrying and shield blocking I get hit about two out of every 3 times to 3 out of 4.
To clarify on the Elvaans armor. I said a "visual" inspection. I did not examine the Elvaan so I have no idea what she had on for jewelery. I was wearing 2 vit+2 rings, war belt +1, holy phial and mage sandals.. The same equipment was the BP, cuisses, iron msk helmet, heater shield. I was using fish here and there but I still seemed to be getting hit for less even when food affect was not up.
Also, I was subbing my war at the time and not my whm..
I had another near death experience today this time right outside ifrits cauldron in the jungle. I received a tell from a whm while farming berry grubs for silk outside crawlers nest with my lfg tag up. He told me I was replacing their MT because he was leaving soon. By the time I make it to Jeuno the whm is there because he somehow got killed. We board the ship and I follow him through the jungles to where his pt was waiting. Anyway, this was a new place for me to xp. We were fighting those 50 something goblins near the ifrits zone. Apparently they like to use their suicide bombs very early on into the battle. First time the gobbie used a crazy one it took off about 450 life and one hitted our summoner. We had little room to play so the party was kind of close together. It wasn't too painful to me, i dropped to about 150. Kind of scary but I was nowhere near dieing and the gobbie basically killed himself. The second time it happened we almost lost a few people. The gobbie bombed the party for about 525 at about 10-15 seconds into the battle. I dropped down to 8 life and the human whm was one hitted, the summoner was no longer in the pt at the time so he was spared. Overall it was a great group with very little downtime(garuda helped lots) and I managed to ding 46.
Hm...Afija you may want to check your statistics...Because I'm pretty sure that Taru and Hume have the same Charisma, which is greater then all the other races...Also Mind only helps max your cure spells faster for if you don't have enough healing skill to do so otherwise, just to let you know =P
CHR- yeah, my mistake, you'r right. Taru=Hume=Elv in CHR
MND- MND does help resist spells

ignore afija, he likes to talk about charisma even though the differences between races has almost no bearing at all on the ability of a tank to hold hate.
Sorry bloodsilver, I can't help it i I know more than you

Wow...he said something right and useful for a change >.>
No he didn't, CHR plays a role in provoke, you can't just completely ignore tha fact. But like I said, tarus can heal themselves to keep hate and make up for their shit HP
