Three years.
Three years since Treasures of Aht Urhgan was released, and still nobody even begins to understand corsairs.
Yesterday I joined a Jailer of Faith shout for a minuscule chance at a faith torque. We had three parties, one of which was full of mostly black mages with at least one summoner. I got placed into the "leftovers" party, which consisted of me and...a monk.
A monk who wasn't going to be meleeing.
A monk who was only going to use chi blast.
Forget the fact the BLMs and SMNs would've boosted my wizard's and evoker's rolls, because that's something I can forgive not knowing. But why the hell do you even bother to invite a corsair only to put him into the party with a chi blasting monk?! Am I supposed to put up my MND+ buffs or something? Oh, wait...that's a bard.
After the first pop, one of SMNs asked why I wasn't with her party, and the leader conceded to letting me switch. We waited for the 15 minutes to see if the ??? would repop where we already were, but it didn't, and we decided to simply escape and begin searching from the beginning of the zone.
But before we departed, the leader asked me to return again to the monk's party (which, remember, didn't include a BLM or /BLM), prompting the monk to ask whether a corsair can escape.
A few limbus runs ago, I was asked to use my "silence" shot.
/facepalm
It's OK if you don't understand everything I can do. It's OK if you don't understand all of the mechanics of rolling and quick draw and everything (in fact, I prefer you to remain somewhat in the dark so you don't know if I screw up). But a basic understanding of our place within a battle strategy would be appreciated.
---
Now, to elevate my thread above a simple rant, let's hear from other corsairs about the silly things people ask them to do because they don't understand how the job works.

Ah, yes. I intended to add the disclaimer my server is the pickup group server. Whitegate is full of shouts every day for pickup dynamis, einherjar, jailers, limbus, salvage, sky gods, ZNMs...anything goes except perhaps for HNMs.
Yeah, it's weird...makes me wanna say, "When I was your age, we did things with linkshells..."

I found this common in my Dynamis LS. They used to be smart about me. First time I started coming as Corsair I got paired up with the Black Mages, though somewhere along the line they stopped using me for that. Granted they had another Corsair who seemed to be put in the mage party instead, but when I got put in a melee party, half the time they were made up of Thieves and Ninjas. Lots of times it wasn't even a full party and only had 4 or 5 members. Just a total waste of potential.
I never complained though (at least not publicly). It was their own fault for not using me properly.
One time I even got paired up with one Black Mage, who had arrived shortly before entry. I was standing there a good 30 minutes but never got invited to a party. Though it was a little fun. Making her a little princess Black Mage.

I've been asked for this too, along with "bind shot" and a few others. One newly-75 rank 4 WAR argued with me feverently about the existence of a "bind shot" while I and a few others were in the process of helping him get rank 5. Nevermind I've been a 75 COR for twice as long as he's owned the game, seen the updates, tested the changes, etc. He ttly saw bind shot and it wasn't light shot or shadowbind it was bind shot!
I've posted this next one before too, but I was leveling my PLD around 50ish in a party with a COR that didn't seem to know he could double up more than once. So I told him he could, and he promptly doubled a IX, busted, and accused me of trying to MPK the party by fucking with his rolls, or something.

I remember that. It was a good read. >.>
I've seen a Corasir Snake Eye an 8 into a 9 on Wizard's Roll.

Let's See...
Never been asked for Bind or Blind shot...
but i HAVE had people ask why my Light and Dark Shots weren't doing damage and that i failed at COR...
I HAVE had people ask me to "Shadowbind" the mob.
usually the parties i get placed in... I'll either make myself, or the people are pretty knowledgeable about the job.
BUT these same people... when i roll (and mind you I have "gather together" messages and delay times in my roll macros), these same people who have optimized the party then SCATTER like you have shit hanging from your fingertips and they are afraid you'll touch them, whenever i use a roll that said people are whining isn't on them.
Simply put: you want Evokers...I'll either hit you with the double up or come to the mages.
i simply CANT hit everyone if you all scatter at an event in 5 different directions
One of my biggest pet peeves being the COR in a party:
I get invited to pull.
sorry if im elitest...but nearly every job can pull better and faster then the COR.
yes...i COULD use QuickDraw.. but then i risk wasting it when i could really use it.
BTW, I've been asked to pull with Quick Draw at an IMP camp with Soul Flayers near by...
when i refused...they mocked me.
So i pulled once to prove my point.
was booted from the party afterwards because I "didn't know how to pull without linking and wiping the party"
go figure.
my BIGGEST Pet Peeves...
being in parties with other CORs...
are the following:
A) gear for Evasion wearing a SH past 60, dual weilding daggers, and just focusing on Slug shot.
yes...i have seen this first hand.
B ) the COR who comes to the party...and ALL HE ROLLS IS CORSAIR ROLL
yes...i have been in this situation... and i wanted to kill myself
C) The COR who comes to the party and focuses rolls on himself to help him DD better...without a care as to the rest of the group.
D) The COR who came to the party without a GUN because he was "too broke to afford bullets"
E) The COR who ROLLS ONCE ...and no matter WHAT number it lands on...they wont double up because they are afraid to bust.

I'm usually pretty lucky with dynamis because the scholar who usually organizes one of the mage parties is a corsair too and knows the value of having one. Before I joined my current shell, I'd sometimes get stuck with a blend of mages and melee, which is about the worst thing you can do to a corsair during an event in which everybody is running in different directions. Sometimes I wanted to equip my luzaf's ring and throw up corsair's roll on everyone just to screw with 'em.

I was in 2x merit party once with two Corsairs (me and another). I was going /Nin, since I was the puller, but other Corsair apparently didn't have a melee sub and came /Whm. Felt like a little waste of potential... but went along with it.
A while into the party she asked for some fire cards so she could do some damage. I let her have some and she disliked how little damage she could do with Fire Shot.
Granted she was sporting Trump Gun with bronze bullets.

ive been asked to do chocobo roll (guessing they ment to run fast)

been stuck in a pt with 1 blm.. total waist of a COR imo.. ive also been asked to roll double wizards.
i get bitched at by the same guy everytime i get put in blm pt cos he doesnt understand that my rolls wont hit the WHOLE ZONE... he moans.. then he moans about not being able to reroll over the top (like a BRD i think)
i have been asked to double up on 11's o.0
theres a ton of others ive been asked but i cant remember they all make me laugh so much

Not really, unless you consider BRD every job.

Unless you're talking pre-merits, the COR should pull if there's no BRD. If you mean 10~70 then sure, it's pretty dumb to make the COR pull, but once Peacemaker becomes available COR is second only to BRD, and even then COR has a bunch of advantages that BRD doesn't.
