So I go on facebook, and some bitch is like
I HATE FUCKING PIGS!!! FUCK THE POLICE!!!!

You'd never say they that if they were saving your life, or protecting you in your time of need. Yes admitly there are some who are rogue but come on we are humans. We all make mistakes. It is one of my BIGGEST pet peeves. Its like how dare you bash the people who keep you safe day to day.
I hate people who bash cops Come on now

What if they ARE cops? I think that makes it worse, but I figured this was worth discussing.

It really depends. Some places have better cops than others. Around here the Cops are actually fantastic and reliable and get things done. But I live in a small sized city. If you live in large cities the force is larger and contains more people who should not be allowed onto the force.

Don't know about that one Vari, there was this city in Texas (name slips my mind right now), pretty small place but had this whole stupid thing with the cops and district attorney working together to bag themselves a crapload of money used to spend on petty thing written off as government expenses.
@Kimera, woman probably just got a ticket so was venting. People get pissed when they're wronged (Using that term loosely since it's your own fault if you're crazy speeding, heh), and are nice when you are helping them. Natural reaction. I also don't think you'd be willing to deny that most people usually see cops giving us a ticket or something a lot more often than they are actually protecting anyone. =P

Well, I didn't mean it universally applies. That just tends to be the case more often than not.

Interesting to see this cops board. None the less the tickets thing as mad as you are, are probably deserved. If not you have the right to defend yourself. We might not see all that they do but my mom dated a cop, and he'd be like today I went to 3 domestic disputes this that and that. They do a lot of house calls.
Odd they all call each other brother and sister...

Tragic but there are plenty of civs who have done the same so why target a whole group. Thats ignorant. Thats like saying I HATE ALL BLACK PEOPLE CAUSE ONE OF THEM ROBBED MY MOM.

One lawyer cheats you, so you say all lawyers suck.
One doctor is a quack, so you say all doctors suck.
One cop runs over a kid so you say all cops suck?
Sounds pretty fucking dumb to me.

Sera, you're giving humanity to much credit and assuming they have this rare thing called "Common Sense."

Admittly not everyone is as good as you'd hope but honestly. Not every cop is going to be a douche. I mean I'm sure all of us bashed our teachers. So did you hate them all or just 1? Think about it. If you hated them all, are you living in your moms basement, and able to solve basic math?

Reading that forum made my brain hurt. The next person that utters "brother" in my presence is getting their larynx torn out with my bare hands. *sigh* brb I have to kill my sister
The sheer amount of entitlement in that place disgusts me. I've known plenty of cops who'd let civs go for not being a dick if the offense was minor and they weren't having a particularly shitty day, but hearing them riled up because they might get ticketed for breaking the law has minced into a fine powder a bit more of my meager faith in humanity.
If I hated cops, I don't think my family reunions would go too well considering the amount of family I have that is or was on the force. Precocious adolescent man-boys and loathsome troglodyte women in the nascent stages of maturation who decry cops are cute (read: childish and thoroughly annoying), but tremendously underwhelming when it comes to the expression of their pithy, vague notions of rebellion

No man is above the law, even though they are the minority in that forum I agree that they should write up another cop if he is driving recklessly. Its a situation by situation analysis. Obviously dont write them a ticket for going 5 over, but dont let them off for going 20 over. I'd give my own mom a ticket. You could kill someone.

Why
My cousin is a cop, and he's a jerk. That's why.
Also, please don't confuse the word 'dislike' with 'hate.'
I also dislike lawyers, my dentist, my doctor, and many other people.

It's great that you stick to your guns Kimera, but really, most cops that I've met...don't.
Regardless I wouldn't act like a dick to a cop for no real reason anyway. If you're going like 20 over, yeah you deserved the damn ticket, since you took that risk and got busted. But I've seen all kinds of stupid reasons for tickets before. I remember a friend getting a ticket once for looking at the cop (Said something like she was provoking her or something), and another friend getting a ticket for not stopping long enough at a stop sign (Said something like you have to count to 4...that doesn't help because everyone counts at different speeds). Thing is, people complain about this kind of stuff online because you can't really mouth off to an officer or try to argue with them because they can just end up giving you another ticket just to annoy you. It's irritating when someone in a position of power, supposedly representing the law, is bending the law so freely. It's almost as bad as a doctor giving you a misdiagnosis on purpose because they don't like you.
Well, actually, that might be an extreme example, since that could get someone killed. It's the same principle, though.

what a horrible analogy. I've had alot more bad teachers than good, by a WIDE margin. In fact I could probably count the good ones on one hand. even still, I have great respect for people who become teachers; its a totally altruistic profession that pays shit and gets no respect.
also, in Boston, the waitlist for police academy is MILES FUCKING LONG, to the extent where you pretty much need to already be some kind of first-responder (EMS, fire, etc) just to have a shot at getting in. compared to teacher, this is NOT an altruistic profession at all- the pay is VERY good (a *patrolman* can earn upwards of 100k with construction details) not to mention you get a gun and license to do whateverthefuck- I hate to bring your doe-eyed world crashing down around you, but above the law is exactly where most police sit.
I've been pulled over with my EMS buddy (which shares membership in Boston PBA union) he has a bull's-eye window sticker similar to this (this one is from albany)

anyway he was doing 80 in a 35 zone, residential area. Cop sees the bulls-eye, asks "Who's sticker is this" my friend replies "Mine sir, I'm in the union".. cop smiles, taps the roof of the car twice and we're on our way. It's funny you mentioned you would give your own mother a ticket- read about how in Albany, they issue these stickers to avoid doing precisely that.

Come on now, that is ridiculous. I'm obviously not saying it doesn't happen, I'm saying it shouldn't. That'd be as naive as thinking government officials don't take bribes or people at food places don't occassionally tamper with meals. You're mis-interpreting my sentence. You honestly can't even say you had a bad teacher unless you learned nothing, and honestly if you say you didn't you're either a bold faced liar or unable to cope with reality. There were PLENTY of teachers I disliked, why? Some were rude. I disagreed with some of their teaching styles. None the less not EVERY TEACHER was a fuck up, and thus I did not dislike them all. That was a complete bend over backwards of my original analogy. I'm currently studying to be a teacher, and I know exactly what to look forward to. Before that though I was studying to be a police officer, so I have a few courses under my belt, and I still agree. I would ticket any family member or police officer who endangered the lives of people around them. How could I forgive myself if I let someone go for going 20 over, and later that day they plow through a group of kids? Seriously though. Would I ticket family for blowing a stop sign when they are the only one at it? No. Red light with no one near it? No. Going 20 over on some road with borderline no one on it? No. I would answer yes if you involve a residental area with people or other cars around. To think otherwise is selfish and fucked up. If I got the chance to be an officer, my whole department can fuck off if they think they'll be flying down the road through lights and shit.
Edit: Your friend should have their license revoked. For real.
I'll admit I think I would cut people breaks and write down speeds, but 80...in a 35? You're fucking serious? I'm trying to imagine being in a 35 zone around here going 80. Someone would die eventually.
