The "Best" Sword Situational Sword Discussion

PLD/NIN HNMs:
PLD/WAR or RDM Blood Tanking:
PLD/NIN or WAR Kiting:
DDing: (overall damage, not just Atonement damage)
Other: (any situation you feel is worthy of mentioning)
I wanted to start this because it seems that all the rules have changed since Atonement started, and Joyeuse is now, again, a "must have" piece for PLD. Obviously Joyeuse isn't the prefered Sword for kiting so what is? Burtgang or Hauteclaire? Would Joyeuse's occasional double attack proc out damage Excalibur PLDs using HP gear, or Burtgang PLDs? I'm curious to see how everyone feels about this subject now that Atonement is out. Feel free to include any gear setups you would use with the sword of your choice for any situations.

PLD/NIN HNMs: Joytoy/haute (Excalibur -best)
PLD/WAR or RDM Blood Tanking: Haute (Burtgang -best)
PLD/NIN or WAR Kiting: Mac +1 (Burtgang -best)
DDing: (overall damage, not just Atonement damage) Joytoy+Justice , someone said excalibur+kclub once, no experience with that though
Other: (any situation you feel is worthy of mentioning) Cant think of any.
This is just my opinions, clearly others will have their own, nothing is ever set in stone. The opinions will just reflect their way of tanking.

PLD/NIN HNMs: If theres no reason not to melee, joyeuse or excalibur. If you can't melee much, haute or excal
PLD/WAR or RDM Blood Tanking: haute or excal
PLD/NIN or WAR Kiting: doesn't really matter. You're kiting.
DDing: (overall damage, not just Atonement damage) Excal
Other: (any situation you feel is worthy of mentioning) There aren't any others

I deliberately didn't mention burtgang because until SE increases alexandrite drops or lowers requirement, its retarded to make a burtgang unless you already have excal.

Yeah I know, especially when the answer is pretty much common sense.

PLD/NIN HNMs: what setup would you suggest for using Excalibur; HP build, or the hybrid TP/HP build looking similiar to an Atonement TPing build? Also, I am assuming you would be using Atonement over Knights of the Round?
PLD/NIN or WAR Kiting: I agree, though I also agree that Square Enix made Burtgang far too hard to get.
PLD/WAR or RDM Blood Tanking: I understand this to a degree. You get +10 enmity, and you also get less hate lost from physical damge but, correct me if I'm wrong, the power behind Burtgang actually lies within the 200+TP bonuses it grants. I'm not sure, in this situation, if it would be worth holding back TP or even if people would consider doing so if they had Burtgang. I still consider Excalibur here because you get the bonus damage according to your HP, the occasionally hitting for double damage, and the ability to still spam TP continuously on Excalibur. Maybe I am misinformed.
DDing: I haven't actually DD'ed in a merit party before, so I actually have nothing to add here. Logically Joyeuse/Justice Sword sounds correct.
I know people say, and I agree, that Burtgang is too difficult to get. I am actually interested in this topic for the fact that I would like to see which would benefit me more greatly overall. I am hoping to get a Hauteclaire, by Bonanza or drop, my linkshell is preparing to do Jailer of Justice soon so I could potentially get that, and I am debating in my mind which sword, Burtgang or Excalibur, would be a better overall sword to potentially start. Burtgang is a pain in the ass to get, and I don't think anyone could argue that point. According to my server market it would cost ~180mil to buy currency straight out for Excalibur, but Burtgang would require all of the pre-req stuff plus the quests, Einherjar points, Assault points, and "quest" requirements. So, I am interested in what the PLD community feels are the best options.

Burtgang is pretty useless. You can get better results with a fucking joyeuse, and excalibur fucking rapes it.
For things you're blood-tanking you're already taking low enough damage that the -10% damage won't outweigh the extra bonus of excalibur.
Joyeuse tps better since it has burtgangs best bonus with no pre-reqs, the extra 6 enmity over beavertail is a laughable bonus since +enmity caps at 50 unless you use sentinel and I can already hit +50 without even using my sword, and its only 3% better damage reduction than haute and is only even applicable if you bloodtank a lot.
The sword is nice, but its nothing compared to excalibur. Its just another of SEs weird hybrid gears thats more a space saver than a fantastic piece of gear.
Besides you can probably get 180 million worth of currency before you get all 3 t4 items, not to mention 150k nyzul points and 100k ampoules if you're not already well on your way to having them. The requirements for the sword are absurd for its actual usefulness, especially with excalibur sitting there next to it with arguably easier requirements.

Excalibur setup imo, would be acc/haste. Anything to make sure you get your excalibur to proc. 350-400 a proc is pretty sexy, you would probably see a proc 1 and maybe 2 times each ws.
If you are looking for a choice between excalibur and burtgang, than hands down my vote is going straight toward excalibur. Its just that awesome. Burtgang is just a mac+haute +1. Its a very nice sword, as a matter of fact its a great sword. However when you add up what it does, the abilities of what a paladin already has, and then add in the cost its at. The price is too high for the little impact it will do over all. This doesnt mean its not an awesome sword, its just not worth the price vs a sword that is so much better offensively(something a pld can really benefit from). With shield skill mechanics(block rate ,damage %reduction), shield skill gear, /nin, and -damage% gear and JAs like shield bash, sentinel, rampart, fealty. Defensively we are pretty set, adding a sword like Burtgang to the mix is just icing on the cake, but does very little in the long run with all the boosts we have already.
Excalibur offers a nice offensive boost for pld, something it doesnt have naturally outside an A+ in sword. +20att helps out greatly with not hitting for 0s, esp when it comes with a damage rating of 49 very nice indeed. Low delay,2.5 proc chance, and 1/4hp proc, thats just pretty sexy over all. For me the burtgang offensively, leaves me a bit meh

And slightly off topic, but since its being discussed, supplementing your hit-rate and attack speed are the first order of business if you're swinging an Excalibur. Upping your maxHP is really your last priority.

Either way, it doesn't hurt to accumulate all of the facts and opinions of others before you devote yourself to a 150+mil item, you know?
