First off, I have been an active player in ffxi since launch and have enjoyed the game immensely from start to finish. Taken several breaks here and there to make sure the material stayed fresh and to see what the competition has to offer as well..wow,eq2,GW,WAR,etc. and after looking into other games i have to wonder why were weren't ever given the option to indulge in a open PVP server.
I already know its possible and can be done. Other games that don't match up to ffxi are alive for their pvp features alone and i feel ffxi could benefit from the option to join a PVP server tremendously as well as pvp point systems for gear and such.
It's really sad when you want to be competitive as a LS (ESPECIALLY at hnm pops and such) and all you can do challenge someone to a match in a isolated area ><. Wouldn't it save GM's the trouble of dealing with bots and such if we could just duke it out with contesting LS's rather then a mob popping and they claim unfairly with a bot and you have to watch and do nothing? Or when you claim is stolen due to mpk or other annoying issues? Why not be able to fight off another LS and EARN kill. In addition, since when was friendly competition ever a bad thing?
Being apart of an ls should really make you feel like your able to realistically face real dangers as a group and be able to come together and conquer whatever stands in the way, whether it be environment or other contesting players. I just ultimately feel that open pvp could re spark some of the magic ffxi used to provide and really give players a since of accomplishment without being restricted by the many limits already enforced in the game.
Think about how hyped the players were when the ballista royal tournaments ran It was exciting to be apart of ffxi what happened to those good times?
I can only hope that a key developer reads this post and sincerely puts this on the ffxi drawing board. Please take heed in this post because rather than adding new scenarios or content i think the game can be tremendously impacted by going back to the basics. If you doubt me experiment with opening one PVP server and see what your response is like from the community, if your the overpopulation on Hades was a problem you'll definitely have your hands full with this.
In closing, I'm just asking for the development team to seriously give this thought and like i said try one PVP server and see how much reception you will receive. This will help fight against rmts and give players something to be excited about all in one package you really have nothing to lose and so much to gain I'd love to be able to have a lot of people join the ffxi family that are staying away just because the game doesn't offer a supported PVP option. Thanks for reading and I hope i am heard

I'm all for a pvp server. The main problem is that it requires the attention from the 3 developers at SE to balance the game and keep their personal bias out of class balancing in order to achieve this.
*edit* and a community not scared to fight something that's not predictable or something "not guide friendly".
