Hey there!

Just got my ninja to 50... and the dreaded Colibri are up and comeing..

And im haveing problems casting Utsusemi: Ichi as far as i know i should
start casting it just before the mob hits me but as of late i am only able to cast say 2/4 times succesfully
ive not once had haste cast on me due to level scync and the mobs have been dieing to fast to really bother with ichi.

im bringing this up becouse i had a LS party the other night at east East Ronfaure (S) on colibri and i could not for the life of me get ichi up... any tips would be most appreciated.

note: im useing fuma and swift belt now...

It sounds like someone isn't enfeebling the mobs. There is no excuse for Slow not to be applied to a mob, either by your own casting of Hojo or by one of the mages in the party. Elegy helps immensely, but it's not always possible to have a Bard. If you can't go Ni > Ni, I recommend getting ready to cast Ichi when you're down to one Ni shadow left, that should give you enough room to get Ichi up.

Really, though, unless you're fighting something way too far over your level, e.g., Lesser Colibri at level 53, you should be able to get by blood-tanking until Ni is ready again. It's preferable not to take damage, but the damage you take should not over-tax your healers while waiting on timers.

Hey Haki ,

theres a trick on these Colibris. If you run out of Shadows ( why ever ) just use a simple Elementar: Ni and the Colibri is imitated to Blink it back. This is your Time to start casting what ever you want.

And yes ... enfeebling works , but think about your PT member w/o /nin , you maybe hit them with your Spells

Onorgul that way of casting to me seems flawed... lets say i cast Ni then on the last shadow start casting ichi and the mob misses wouldent that waste a ichi and force me to wait for Ni to come back up...

But ill give it a go...

and thanks for that tip razor ill keep it in mind for later levels biggrin.gif

If you cast ichi over ni, you have to cast it a bit later than usual on purpose so that you have ample time to cancel your shadows before ichi cast goes off in the case it misses.

Yeah all it takes is practice, you'll get it down eventually. It's a really important skill to have as a Ninja. Good luck!

Yes, my apologies, I'd meant to mention about canceling Utsusemi but forgot. It does take some practice and if, like me, you have a sketchy connection, it can be troublesome to time, but it is well worth learning how to do.

i typically cancel ni at 50% casting time, sometimes im lucky enough that the mob hits the shadow before i cancel it

learning that is going to mold you into a great ninja. keep at it, and dont give up. rely on yourself before anyone else. after you master that, you'll rival any tanking job this game has to offer.

I'm sure they've changed the way Ni cancels. I dont know if it's just new PC or something, but Ni seems to drop much quicker that it used to. It used to take like half a second to actually "drop" so you could cancel around 50% and still be covered should the mob swing around 60 or 70% cast.

Now it seems like it drops almost before I cancel it, Ive been smacked around a bit when soloing because of this and it's pissing me off because it never used to happen sad.gif

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just the new PC and I'm not used to it yet. ^^;

Omg i wish i knew that LOL!

i usually drop Ni and cast Ichi in the down time, as most of the time a full Ni should get you through a fight ~

re-casting Ichi on 1 shadow left mid fight if needed.

After quitting for a year and then coming back i've noticed this too! The new timing needs to be pretty exact and i've gotten smacked around a fair bit here and there myself as a result. I'm used to it now but it's a bit more of a headache. You really just have to time the Utsusemi much more carefully too early and you're looking at getting hit, too late and it's not going to have any effect.

To the OP: I never had any problems with lesser colibri but I sure had some on The greater ones. Their attack speeds seems faster then the average mob. If you're doing Utsusemi over Ni you need to time it perfect which is something like once their attack animation stops. If you time it bad you can easily get hit on twice by them during the utsu cast. Hell, i've casted Ni about a second later then normal and got hit as a result fighting them. If you have a decent set up they really aren't bad and I had been gone for a year so I was a bit rusty. I'm used to it now but I will say they def. aren't the greatest mob to fight as a Ninja. (You never get to WS, You can't eat food, It's hard to get the enfeebs going, Pecking flurry can be a pain.) At least they don't double attack I guess.
