Just wondering if this is a option for a weapon on pld or not? If so, do you spam Vorpal Blade at 100 tp? Does it effect Spirits Within?

Joyeuse, Company Sword, and Justice Sword are all superior and not that incredibly difficult to get.

Back in the day, it was a pretty good weapon for spirits within. The low base dmg makes it pretty bad for vorpal (or DPS in general.)

But by same token, you could probably say that Joytoy was about on par with it in terms of spirits within spammage, with the better DPS.

That was back in '05.

Nowadays, WS of choice is going to be Atonement 99% of the time. Joytoy, Justice, even Company are going to be better for the notion of reaching 100% that much quicker. That's due to the natural double attack on the swords, or the high base dmg (which makes hitting for 0 and not getting TP, less likely.)
Martial Anelace has neither of these benefits, and is safe to say, obsolete.

On the flipside, for those PLD's who don't have atonement yet, Vorpal will probably be your best friend. In which case, as said before, low base dmg is not going to be fixed by the TP bonus. If you're spirits within'ing something, again the Joy/Justice > Martial.

If the mob takes crap damage from Atonement, use that TP for Chivalry.
(Unless it's not taking crap damage from Spirits Within, I have no idea if any mob meets this criteria, but if so toss out some Spirits if you don't need MP)

Basic thing you have to remember is that it's going to boost your TP mod to the next level. 100% will hit like 200%, 200% will hit like 300%.

Spirits Within
Vorpal Blade
Swift Blade
Savage Blade
Atonement

As you can see, Vorpal and Swift are unaffected by TP - It mods like ACC and Crit Hits. Spirits and Savage are affected by it. Atonement is questionable, as it is hard to test with the rapid decay of VE. However, it has been observed that the highest anyone has seen at 100%tp is 720, and the highest observed at 300%tp is 750. Huge difference, huh?

Out of these weapon skills, the only three you will use on a consistent basis is Atonement for general damage, Vorpal Blade for meripo, and Spirits Within for things with ridiculously high DEF and when you don't have Atonement. Swift blade and Savage blade when you are setting up Light and Dark, but if you're doing that the meat of the damage is from the closer and MB's, not your dinky ws.

So does the atonement damage really not increase by saving TP? Is the damage cap easier to hit or just slightly raised?

Hard to say, but in observation, there hasn't been a huge damage increase. Besides, why save up to 300% TP when you could literally dish out 700x3 for the same amount of TP? I doubt saving to 300% TP would grant you over 2100 damage.
