Thought it'd be interesting to see what others think about features they want to see in the game. Here's a quick list of mine

1. No more 21+ hour spawns
-HNMs are fine and all, but for the love of all that's holy make them forced pop.

2. More job balance.
-Something I wish they'd do in XI however it doesn't seem like it'll ever happen

3. Being more solo friendly
-I like PTing and all, but having to do it all the time gets boring.

4. No item malls/additional features you need to pay for.
-Nuff said, I heard that this will be a feature but I hope I'm wrong

5. Better service
-Do I honestly need to go into details on this one?

6. Better dev team.
-AKA, no more "We'll think about it" when we ask questions in interviews

7. Customizable armor
-By customizable I mean changing the apperance so when I'm wearing armor it doesn't look like I dressed myself in the dark.

8. Kick ass storyline
-If one thing kept me addicted to this game, it'd have to be the storylines

9. Customizable houses/interactive furniture
-Dunno why, but even with furniture my MH just felt stale, maybe the ability to change the wall/floor designs like in Animal Crossing, also be cool to interact with your furniture like being able to open/close it, turn it on/off, etc.

10. Better endgame.
-XI just burns you out after awhile since SE keeps trying to pile events on each other, and with the long waiting time you need to go through for some gear I hope SE steers clear of that idea in FF14

I'd love for transportation to be revamped too. Especially with mounts, I may be reading too much into it but the trailer may have been hinting at that with the scene with them overlooking the scenery.

With that said, I brought it up in a previous thread but I would love it if the world was large-scaled and very daunting. I remember the first time I played XI at launch and starting and alliance with whomever my friends and I could've gathered with and went exploring. We were so amazed with the environments at the time, it really made the game for me (that and the music). I'd just love for it to feel more like a classic Final Fantasy when it comes to exploring...

Like treasure hunting for example, I loved finding rare items etc... in XI but if you were able to go around with a group of friends and find a new location each time and locate treasure as a side quest or just to keep yourself entertained, that would be amazing; its a bit out there but still, it would be nice!

Samurai.

Also not everything in the game has to be a timesink i.e. taking nearly 30 minutes to get from jeuno to kazham via airship if you don't get lucky and catch the airship while its still docked.

and chocobos that you can mount at any time would be nice(not caves and such still obviously)

lastly, get rid of De-leveling.

I'd love for your character to be able to hold a torch of somesorts to illuminate dark areas, cause damn even with Gama on high some areas of FFXI I can't find my character for the life of me!

or hell even self illumination in a small vicinity, enough to see you and your party, you could make some interesting dungeons that way I think! Imagine running around a cave and then Boom, theres the Dragon you were hoping to ambush snaking on half your party already.

Believe it or not, I hope you can swim.

If we were able to swim to say... another island off the coast and discover a whole new area to level or explore. That would just add another dimension to the game.

Just gonna copy/paste my original list.

-More character customisation. I don't want to be forced to break the ToS just to get my character looking how I want it.

-The remaining landmasses currently unexplored. Being a "sequel" to FFXI, this seems like the most likely environment for our continued adventures. Given the apparent emphasis of the trailer on airships and boats, this seems quite likely. However, I can find no mention of Eorzea relating to current FFXI lore so this might not be the way things unfold. A currently undiscovered continent perhaps? I seem to remember a vast expanse of ocean between the Eastern and Western lands that might hold something we've not seen before.

-MOAR HNMS? You know they're coming.

-Increased soloing capability. Personally not something I'd be overjoyed about, the party mechanics are what made FFXI different from everything else I've played. If it ended up being similar to WoW I'd be quite disappointed. Still, being able to solo for a moderate amount of EXP while my THF once again begins the lengthy process of proving it really does deserve a spot over other "heavy" DDs.

-More jobs than you can shake a stick at. Will they retain the job system? What little combat you see in the trailer suggests that the combat system remains somewhat similar to what you might expect, though I get the feeling it will be heavily influenced by FFXIII (every clip I've seen of the game features a million enemies on screen at once and that battle scene on the ship reminded me a lot of it.) If the combat is the same, the job system should remain relatively untouched, perhaps reworking a few existing abilities and adding a host of new ones.

-Your old character in the new game. Sure, it'd be nice to stroll into the fray with your already pimped out, multiple lv75, badass but I'm not holding my breath. Given that you can expect a host of fresh blood when this is released, it would be at least nice to have the ability to reserve your previous character name, race, face, etc.

-More item choices. I don't want to be the millionth fool running around wearing the same old crap. Please god, do not let them put the SH in this game.

-Less painful crafting. I'm sure I'm not the only one who lacked the patience and fortitude to take a craft up to 100. Mobs that drop items that are actually useful to your level so that it's much easier to build up your skill as you progress through the game.

-PvP that isn't completely redundant. I took part in one Ballista match many years ago. Once I realised that people could still target me while I was invisible or just after using Hide, I stopped bothering. It isn't a huge part of the game but it's always a nice distraction when you've got nothing better to do.

-PROPERLY INSTANCED ZONES. No more scrambling to beat another LS to your chosen Dynamis. No more "The server is busy." messages when you're trying to do Nyzul Isle or something. Likewise, cut down the time restrictions placed on such events. It would have made a lot more sense to have each zone on their own timer, so you couldn't just spam the same area every day to get what you wanted. If it features anything like Dynamis, perhaps keep the three day timer on each zone, but allow you to do a run once a day making it easier to rotate between them.

I'm sure I could think of more, but that's all I've got at the moment. While I'm incredibly impressed at the level of secrecy they've maintained while working on the project, it does worry me slightly that in doing so, they've completely cut out any input from the people most likely to be first in line to buy the game. Then again, this is SE and I doubt they care.

I agree with all of Corrderio's posts. Especially no time spawned HNM's. Forced pop only. There's no reason to create the dynamics that happened in FFXI. Grouping should be about cooperation. Scheduling those events helps an MMO fit in people's lives.

Personally, I SE has already enabled solo play with FoV, /DNC, /BST and sleep+nuke strategies. I can't think of a single class that would have an issue with occasional soloing. But agree that this kind of forethought would be great at launch.

So thinking about endgame. If there ends up being some raiding scenario where items drop that end up being job specific (ie Dynamis / Limbus / Salvage / etc.) go the path taken by mog bonanza. Zone level slips that drop that can be exchanged for an item. Think about it. You get max 1 per run if RA/EX (no lewt hogs getting many pieces). Pieces that are desired are harvested (ie no WAR bodies from Xarc if no one wants). So players get what they want and either continue because they like the event or move on to the next event. It's even easier to code. :-)

I'm happy it is launching 1st on PS3... and know it will make it to PC and 360. I played most of my FFXI career on PS2 til the graphics just hurt to look at. But these start at a really high level. I'd be happy to stay console as long as I figure out how to get my screenshots off to post on my blog :-)

Interesting to read everyone's thoughts and I'm confident SE has built something that we'll all enjoy.

Now the real question. Galka or Taru? Or both (but not dual-boxed)? Elvaan will stay FFXI only for me. :-)

1. A continuous world not broken up into discrete zones.

2. Playable beastman races.

3. Controllable airships, with airship vs. airship and airship vs. HNM combat.

4. No level 80 crabs and rabbits. No level 25 dragons. Enemy designs should scale appropriately with the enemy's difficulty.

5. A virtual ecosystem that would govern mob behavior. Like tiger mobs would hunt and kill sheep mobs, for example. The player could exploit this ecosystem to their advantage. For example, if an aggressive mob is blocking their way, they could lure a prey mob near it to distract it and sneak around it.

i wanna see the 5 races come back with the addition of more.
better crafting system.
a more balanced economy.
better drop rates on stupid shit.
more options for linkshells (ls bank, more ranks among members, something a bit closer to wow or eq2's guild system).
better solo'ing options.
i'd like to see a return of 21-24 hour hnms, but with the direction they've taken in the past updates and expansions i don't forsee it happening. more hnm type mobs would be welcomed
more diversified endgame gear
AF or Relic gear that is worth wearing.

Few things I'd love to see:

I don't want an exact duplicate of FFXI. I loved FFXI! I loved a lot of things about FFXI. It is time for something new though and hopefully FFXIV will give us just that.

Maps that you fill in as you move around the world. Getting the map for Crawler's next and a few other areas was way too much in ffxi.

Lots of job classes. I loved the subclass system too, but it would only be awesome starting out if there are a lot of classes at launch. I also like being able to change classes on the same character... it builds depth into the mmo world vs changing characters to change your class.

More solo action. I don't care if leveling takes forever, but make it possible to solo. After day 9 without a party on summoner in ffxi, I wasn't really in the mood to keep playing it. I'd rather be able to solo grind/quest with the possibility of losing experience as a death penalty than deal with group necessity for leveling.

No more de leveling when losing experience. This was a retardedly bad idea.

Easier crafting. I like Vanguard's method where you actually have to craft your items. WoW was too easy. FFXI was way, way too hard and expensive. Leveling a craft needs to be fun rather than a chore.

If there are summoners, I want to see a lot of summon spells. LOTS!! Also, make them cost 0 mana per second. Summoners summon. That is their job. Don't make them rest mana for 20 minutes. Don't make them sub whm to heal because summon magic sucks.

Black Mages need ultima. Taking that out of Final Fantasy made me sad.

Dragoons need to keep their wyvern pet. That was cool.

Mounts. Chocobo mount? Yes, please! How about this? We raise chocobos and get to keep them to ride forever! Not 3 uses. Not till they are 1 week old RL time. Forever. Nuts? I know. Sure, give them ratings. Make them faster, w/e, based on how we raise them. But let us keep them forever and call them any time to ride for free.

Make skills easier to skill up. Anyone remember leveling summoning magic? 3 billion hours later you cap out and realize summoning magic skill was actually useless until a later patch? Yeah...

The economy was shite. Make gil easier to get from questing or something so people don't buy gil and ruin the economy on every server. Or, make really good gear easier to get rather than just buying it. Either fix would work the magic.

Rdms - mine was 75 - I loved the enfeeble deal. Refresh, not as much. Refresh whore ftl, enfeebler ftw. Kthxbai!

Also, at character creation there should be a restriction on naming your character close to any other FF characters.
...

or DBZ.

If I have to see a damn xXXSephirothSSJGOKUXXx I'll just fucking quit.

Don't complain, just get some originality.

One thing I would like to see is more physical interaction and movement. Stuff like jumping, dodging, etc. It would be nice to be fighting and try to evade attacks by actual jumps, backflips, sidesteps and other evasive maneuvers.

Id love to see zone to zone transition with no loading (doubt that will happen) or at least a Zone line looking like the exit zone instead of more of the same zone you are in. Also a little bit more range of movement, like walking up a small mound of sand instead of 30 steps past it cause its ankle high.

Also Music in every zone would be kinda nice.

1. Easier Leveling. Don't use the current system (thats WAY to easy). Use the old one, but not as difficult. No de-leveling, and no several hour grinds to get a level if your lucky.

2. More player customization. FFXI is really bad at is. Handful of faces, 2 hair colors, and 3 height sizes. Terrible. I am not saying anything like oblivion or fallout 3, but come on. The core idea of Final Fantasy Online is to create your own fantasy. That idea diminishes when you see your clone many many many... many times.

3. From the trailer, it looks like we might have our own flying mounts. Then again, it is just a trailer, but I hope this is implemented in some way for the user.

4. Like others have said, better class balancing. I want to see all jobs be viable for every encounter.

5. Crafting. The chance to loose your materials is ridiculous. I don't want to be carried though crafting either and materials should not be so difficult to obtain. "I am 0/XXX drops for this material to craft my awesome chest piece." NO
