Does anyone else think we won't be seeing a return of the sub-job system in XIV? From what we've heard so far, it seems somewhat unlikely.
Yeah, your inclination is most likely correct. They said at one of the E3 interviews that it wouldn't really be a sub job system, but something different. I've found some really good information at http://petfoodalpha.com/ and http://limitbreakradio.com/ . Be sure to check anything linked there. Or, it seems there's that the folks at FFXI wiki have already launched one for 'XIV. Those guys are really on the ball: http://www.eorzeapedia.com/

I have to agree, some surprisingly good ideas there Tree' had. I like all of them. Some kind of natural forced crit, I would like. Maybe they should have it so that our sa/ta forced crits can be done from any direction. However, I really really like Tree's idea of debuffs via rear attacks. Any sudden unexpected thiefy action would be nice. A stunning stab right in the back, a disabling slice to the ankles, a stunning attack to the back of the skull, a jumping foot plant right in the face. I think they should have something like, instead of doing such an sa buff and just standing there and waiting on your delay, it's more like a WS in that it targets the enemy. Perhaps something like a lock on from behind, and when you use it you zoom forward locked on to the enemies back and thrust in like that. They could adjust effective radius, dashing speed/distance, or accuracy as you level/merit/upgrade your sword/armor, etc. I think we'll see something much different and more specially involved this time around mainly because I expect it to run at high speed transfer rather than 56k.

WoW has shouts, yes? Something like shouts for CC could work, I imagine. Maybe like a shout/taunt for thf and one for war. I imagine thf could do some sort of shout that generates a small amount of enmity on mobs within a given radius, and as Tree' said, this could be combined with Flee as a form of Crowd Control.

SE has said they're reading forums more and more often. Hopefully they'll check out a bit more of KI, but I doubt it >,<

Remove The Evasion Cap.

-.-

I'm fairly certain that if you removed the evasion cap I could evade dynamis mobs and most other event junk mobs @100% rate. Just thf/whm and banishga stuff and then you can just pure eva tank it.

I think a lot of us are thinking of FFXIV squarely in terms of a reworked version of FFXI. When, truth be told, we're probably going to see a game that is much more ability focused than we're used to, a la World of Warcraft. I don't like to keep going back to WoW, because it's the obvious target, but the game has in fact become the model for the modern MMO, and we'd be stupid to think we're not going to see a lot of its influence visible in FFXIV.

For example, we keep talking about these passive SA and TA things, which sound great, but again this is something that is probably unlikely. Passive SA and TA might work well in FFXI, where we are constantly auto-attacking, and not much else, but if you look at more recent MMOs, that deviate from what we're used to, most of what a player is doing is centered around the numerous (and I mean numerous) abilities and spells at their disposal. Anyone who has played WoW or even anything post-WoW knows exactly what I mean.

I'd like to see them revamp the start of the game to get more people addicted. When you first play there's nothing much to do but grind and do fairly boring quests. The really fun and interesting stuff happens later.

This is exactly what I was talking about. We're thinking of it in terms of improvements and changes to the game we all know. FFXIV will be fundamentally different, and we should probably start thinking about it in a radically different manner.

This thread is win.

I would like to see these few things:

Native Dual-Wield.
Highest tier Dagger Skill.
Though it is entirely absurd to believe, it would be epic to see Nef' evasion wet dreams come true.
I'm hip on the idea of being a hate controller in addition to everything else, so I would like to see even more expansions on this.
Make using steal worth a shit. I can't lie and say that making money from steal didn't sound lucrative in the beginning.
Make Aura Steal it's own ability.
A Native 10% Triple attack similar to double attack' proc rate. Another wet dream.
For AF and Relic to be for more than just aesthetics. Obviously TH4 is set aside. I suppose AF+1 Armlets are too.

All in all I would basically like the Dev team to make us more of a DMG force when not meripoing on birds. I understand that THF (rr good ones) can do decent/good DMG on other things and even some HNMs, but it would be nice to be atleast capable of parsing half what big DDs could on these things. Again, all of this said assuming each and every job mentioned is played by someone whose skills are worth a shit.)

Also, I had looked for, but not found that SS with the Mithra in it, and I truly have to say, Fuck yes. I have loved every minute of being the most accurate and evasive race and would love to continue playing a race that is a match made in heaven for our favorite job.

Edit: Just to reiterate... My dick is getting obscenely hard at the prospect of FFXIV basically being an upgrade to FFXI and that Mithras appear to be concrete. Now I am going to go afk and jerk off to relieve this excitement.

I do disagree a little with Caori and think this thread is good, but indeed it is obvious for most of us that we are purely speculating, hoping, and mindsturbating.

I wouldn't diss her grammar though--perhaps English is not his/her first language? Knowing a second language is more than most English-speakers can say for themselves.

More talk about holes, please.

I did pause for a moment and consider agreeing with you and apologising for said comment but then I read what it was in reference to. One picks and stabs at whatever flaw he can see if he's riled by someone and riled i was by the needless and unneccessary flame that came in an already useless puddle of no-knowledgeness that is this thread.

No offence meant though, I think this is a good thread. Speculating detracts from more meaningful discussions that we've had thousands of times biggrin.gif

This isn't necessarily further speculation so much as it is desire, but I really hope that the races are still geared, stat wise, the way they are in this game. I have fallen in love with what my Mithra can do and have become fairly partial to the race itself. I do hope, seeing as how they can no longer use the lame ass "Males are for breeding onry" excuse that we get to finally play the male variation of the class. Even if we can't, I'm still 100% sure I will be a Mithra, and also 100% sure hat I will play THF. Oh, and one more thing. They need to do a better job of making Galka stand out. It was basically an Elvaan with like 2 less STR 2 more VIT and 100 more HP. I would love to see them work Galka into their own playstyle.

If the next game has a THF class I probably won't level it.

Here is why:

1: Compared to all other jobs it takes a whole hell of a lot of expensive time consuming equipment to make a good THF. The other DD jobs not so much.

2: THF is far to specialized to be usefull in all aspects of the game. Our DMG comes at the cost of to many JAs/Stats/equipment. Rather than 100TP WS, RAWR!!

3: I really hate being a TH whore.

4: The next game more than likely won't have the NM/pop/lotto system that this game did have pre-RMT R/EX nerf to make THF a good choice for making big money solo.

5: Other jobs offer a much more versatile use of potential. No offence, and i say this as a career THF, but anything with High DEF were fucked in terms of DMG potential. I mean endgame ffxi is basically throw more BLMs at it and if it's strong to magic than throw more SAMs at it. Zergable mobs and salvage kind of throw a monkey wrench in this but still throw more X type of other DD besides THF is the perfered method.

Some things i'd like to see addressed

1: The Kings/pop/lotto system needs to be fixed like five years ago. Seriously make everything pop or instance. Botting for monopoly needs to stop.

2: DMG calculations. To many jobs are rendered useless in endgame due to the way the game calulates DMG.

3: Crafting, i don't know how other than like in WOW where gear has a life span. than you have to fix it.

4: More custamasiable gear. The ACP shit was awesome. Gear that we can desine around speciffic needs and demands for certain jobs.

I will play IV as soon as it comes out. I've had a blast with XI but in all reality i've killed everything there is to kill(besides PW but wtf 8 AV kills is win!) done everything there is to do. Doing the same shit over and over to get rare pieces that everyone already has isn't that exciting. TBH I still play cause sometimes i do some old shit with small groups and actually get a challange out the game. And i've made some good friends. I'd like to see something different to be honest. Harder and more detail oriented instead of the typical throw 18+ at any mob with the gimpest shells out there and it go boom. '

I'll probably level a tank job, since that is the one job class i never leveled.
