SHHHHH! Don't jinx it! SE said Spring 2010 (dear GAWD it is soooo weird to be thinking about 20-fucking-10!). And seeing as how they've been working on it for five years, I expect a prompt release (obviously, not on the same day as FFXIII).

Of course, I fear if they make a 360 version, Microshit will cock-block us all and have the game delayed until their version is done.

Is it wrong that I still burst out laughing when I hear Microshit?

If it is, I don't give a shit.

Might wanna check your info again, SE did not say Spring 2010 for XIV. They said Spring 2010 for XIII.
They also said XIII will release before XIV does. and since they likely (from a profits stand point) wont want to release XIV too soon after XIII, it means we wont expect XIV untill at least Summer 2010, but the honest likley hood is Fall 2010.
This is though, educated speculation based on what they have said so far. The only thing we know for certains
-XIII will release before XIV
-They said Spring 2010 for XIII
-They have only said 2010 for XIV, not when in 2010 though, but given it will be after XIII summer at earliest (at least 1 year away)

I dont think that microsoft will delay the launch of the game compleatly, they cant. If they dont wanna give the goahead for a 360 version, Sony has already given the goahead for a PS3 version, and the PC version is already goahed as well.
So if aything well get PC and PS3 and the 360 (if they do one for it) will just be delayed untill they get the goahead for that.

If anything, the PS3 and PC will release first and then the 360 version will come at a later date.

I'll be keeping my FFXI toon for a little while after XIV comes out just incase it sucks(which I doubt It will).

But If i'll be leaving for XIV...why even play a single day more?

I sorta share your sentiment. I would hazard a guess that we're looking at 18 months until release. Most likely Nov. 2010. So we will probably see a beta around next spring. If I'm able to participate in beta I will. I've participated in several mmo beta's and about 50% of the time, they allow beta users to keep their characters in the full game. Which means you'll be light years ahead of the crowd. Not to mention that even if you can't keep your character, you still will be light years ahead because you have in game experience and will understand the noob ropes as soon as you head into the launch version.
But back to my point. If there is an open beta around next spring, then we have about a year. I was looking to start leveling bst as my 5th job to 75, but now I don't feel there is a need to do so. I have a tank, two dd's, and a refresher, and bst would have just been for fun. With those 4 jobs I can usually always fill a role in a party, mission, or quest. I think at this point instead of wasting time leveling a new job I wouldn't be able to enjoy that long, I will instead focus my time on just doing fun things that I may have put to the side over the years because I was focusing on necessary missions or needed gear nm's, etc.
If you know you are going to quit, I'd just enjoy the next 12+ months before the beta and just have fun with it. But I agree with you. If you know you are going to leave there's no reason to bust a nut doing super time consuming things like going after say a Riddil, when you know by the time you get it you'll be gone.

I might be wrong but I didn't read anywhere that it was being thought about for 360. Only that its being thought about for something for Microsoft, which for all we know could be an in early stage of development new Xbox.

You will eventually have gotten bored of FFXI anyways regardless of if a new title got announced or not, that didn't stop you from playing before did it?

Spoiler: FFXIV will eventually get dated a new game will come out, and this same exact thread will once again come up.

Only problem is some of us will have families and larger responsibilities by then and thus have less time to spend on FF online if it resembles FFXI's player advancement model. So for some people FFXI is their final MMO before they are forced to break off... or go to wow...

However, the interest appears to be there for an Xbox360 port, but Tanaka laments that they just have not been able to reach a full compromise with Microsoft yet.

That's correct, they simply said "other hardware...including MS hardware". As I was saying in another thread, they have inside info on MS's schedule for a new system. Considering the age of the hardware, I would really suspect they may release a new system in the next two years. If that's the case, SE is probably delaying a release on MS hardware for a new system to future proof the game so that it is not hindered in anyway by the 360 5+ years down the road.

Well, the developers keep insisting that people will be able to play the game regardless of whether you're someone that sits at the computer all day or only have 40 minutes to dedicate to the game at a time, solo or not. I dunno how they're going to make it work, but if they do, AWESOME. Sounds good to me. Let's head to Riversi- ... friggin Louis avatar below Jinzao's post, raorjaroaroaro.

As for the release date, the last interview I saw with the developers was that they don't actually have a concrete date for the release yet. They're thinking about BETA in 2010, not the actual game, and they said that they'd like for the beta to run for a few more months (if possible) than XI's beta, which was about 3 months long according to them. So there you have it. It'll probably be 2011.

On the original topic, I kinda feel that way too. I guess it's not because I feel like sitting on my thumb waiting for the new game, but more along the lines of knowing I'll eventually be abandoning the character I put so much work into. So why put more work into her now? At the least, you can get your priorities in check- if you don't feel like doing what you've been doing, spend the time you've got with FFXI before XIV comes out enjoying the game, instead of mindlessly grinding and /shouting and all that nonsense. Explore, fish, kill lvl 20 goblins because you feel like it. I think I'm going to be doing that for a while.

They actually have said release date will be 2010 (but thats not counting for pushbacks on anything).
Since they want beta to run longer then XI im guessing we see 5-6 months of beta, meaning if its going to be 2010 release (estimatnig october-november), that means we can expect to see beta start around April-June.. But this is all being hopeful.

This is what I had estimated as well until a thought just hit me now. The 360 beta was stand alone for the 360. You had to register for the beta on PlayOnline, and then get a copy of the beta disc in the Xbox Magazine. Since broadband penetration is higher now, they could easily distribute the beta as a PC and PS3 download through the website or on Playstation Network for the PS3. But it just now struck me that there may be a fair chance that the beta would come packaged in with FFXIII next Spring. I guess there is a question as to whether they would want to pull purchasers of FFXIII away from that game to go venturing in 14. But either way, the beta would be released in the same general time frame any way. So there may be a chance we see it packaged in. If not, I agree with you that we are probably looking at a April-June beta release with a October-November gold release.
