Ive been on a few websites, Allah, Wiki, bluegartr, KI - I cannot for the life of me find any posts on what groups people take into Central Temenos to fight Ultima.

So far my group has killed Omega twice with no problems - however I hope to expand on our fights and attempt an ultima at some point in the future. Herein lies the problem - there is NO information out there on strategies to defeat him. Ive looked and couldnt find anything. Im sure the information is out there but its extremely difficult to find.

Anyone here have much experience with ultima want to help me come up with a valid strategy? At best my LS could probobly come out with around 14 people. Ideally Id be taking 18. I hope that we can recruit a little more to be honest by the time we actually get around to fighting this guy. Ive fought him previously in the past but that was a few years ago and ive forgotten most of what I had once learned.

This was the team we took to Omega:
PLD/NIN
PLD/NIN-
RDM/DRK
BRD/WHM
WHM/SMN
WHM/SCH

BLM/RDM
BLM/RDM
BLM/RDM
SMN/SCH
RDM/WHM

I dont know if that setup will work or not. All information on setups and hints is greatly appreciated.

Your setup looks pretty decent. If the PLDs have a good magic-damage reduction set, Citadel Buster should be no problem with the bard singing Light Carol, our last Ultima the shit hit the fan in the last 20% because of some stupid mistakes, and the day was saved by our pld basically holding Ultima for 10 mins solo, simply because of a magic def setup.

Some stuff you might consider adding/changing:

1. some melee DD with /thf to help with hate control. I know you're going for mage-heavy DD setup but we've found /thf extremely useful on ultima for pretty much the entire fight. Ultima has a number of hate-reset moves and a thf or /thf with a good head on his shoulders can help nail hate back down pretty quickly.

2. A rdm/drk. With lightning threnody on Ultima, stun lands very reliably, and given your mage-heavy DD team it might come down to an rdm/drk chainspell-stunning while the blms Manafont-nuke to save the day on the last 10%.

The fight itself is surprisingly easy until the last 20%, then it's like fighting a completely different monster. Stuff you've read already but are nonetheless incredibly important:

1. Dissipation must be stunned, and occurs at 79%, 59%, 39% and 19%. It dispels all buffs and (I think) resets hate. It's handy to have the blms coordinate to "drop" Ultima to Dissipation level while a stun or two is ready to catch it - good to have melee disengage at that point.

2. Chemical Bomb requires 2 erases, and if the mages casting Erase have been hit by it, their recast time will be gigantic. Anyone whm or /whm needs to help with this. Remedies can't hurt either.

3. During the final phase, it's imperative that you keep consistently doing damage during Citadel Buster. Melee can stay in the fray till the count is 15. DOTs need to be kept up, and hate management becomes very difficult but all the more important. If you can't keep doing damage during this phase Ultima will slowly wear you down till you wipe.

The range of CB is around 30', so it's not necessary to be right out of the room. Again, two pld/nins with a full magic defense / light defense setup and light carol will make this much easier. Regular pld gear will either get them killed or in the red; with a funny looking light/magic defense gear set, our pld never went below 700 hp on CB.

Last, if you have a heavy magic DD setup, I'd encourage you to CS-stun manafont the last 10-15% of Ultima ... 10% is safe, but start earlier if things seem to go south.

This fight above most I've found experience pays off immensely. Having all your players on the ball and informed about the fight can make all the difference in the world.

Good luck!

This. Even 1-2 SAM/THF's hitting a TA + WS every minute means your BLMs can get away with whatever they want on this fight. Wouldn't worry too much about time at all, since most full groups take him down in under 30 min without breaking a sweat anyway, and you're not that far behind that in numbers, but the SAM's will also speed the fight up nicely.

Yeah, one assumes that BLM's familiar with timed nuking can pop two AMII's @ 81/61/41/21%, with the melees off. A RDM/DRK can nail Dissipation pretty consistently, though it may take some getting used to for the RDM. You can push it closer by waiting to timed nuke until the 0% before a Dissipation, but it's riskier depending on how you're whittling away it's HP. The key is NOT TO WAIT FOR ANY LOG... the RDM has to get used to timing Stun with the Job Ability without seeing it, but based on when that HP comes off from the BLM nukes.

Sounds like you'll do fine... best of luck!

The trick is luring people with the promise of getting them sea access!

*cough*

The truth is, I think the most important end-game lesson I learned in FFXI is to never attempt anything difficult with people you don't know or trust. Our Limbus group draws from our dynamis LS, so we're spoiled cuz we know how people are gonna perform and who can do what well. As soon as you're down to that 18 or 6 man limit, every player's gotta be on top of their game or you're screwed.

yea the main group are pretty much the dynamis crew. we are all pretty tight. Main reason I made this shell was for them to be honest. Im already 4/5. (well I WAS 4/5 when I made the shell.. just got homam feet about 1 hour ago lol wee). A few have come and gone already and its really stupid how people dont understand the fact they have to wait their turn for items.

I'm not sure on the exact time, but under 20% and while it's not counting down, it seems to randomly go after the last person who took any action. About every 5 seconds or so it seems to change, maybe less. As well it resets hate with every CB.
