Hey guys! I'm going to start leveling RNG to 75 pretty soon and have a few Qs...

How much will not being able to get Combat Merits hurt me? I'm capped out on them already, so unless SE announces expanding them in July or something I won't be able to have any.

I camped and obtained an Othinus' Bow already. And I've always thought the holy bolt spam and acid/status bolt thing was kind of cool. Do I really need to bother with Archery at all? I'd mostly be using RNG for Odin (which I haven't done yet).

I've got a Faith Torque and Suzy boots for MND+ is there anything else I should be looking out for? Any relic or random Rare/Ex stuff I should seek out?

Also, is there any really dumb shit lots of people do that I should avoid?

You can stay with obow if you want and leave archery untouched. Obow + ds bolts is best DPS. If acids stick, even better.

osode + faith torque + suzy boots is just about enough for a decent mnd build for holy bolts.

If holy's add. effect sucks, stick to darksteel bolts.
If acids stick on mobs, use them.

you will want longbow for odin and/or dark ixion. HF+1 is not going to replace e-bow for those fights.

You can still shoot gun outside of AoE range. You could also use O-bow+DSB.

Is Odin particularly resistant to Holy Bolt added effect? Or does it just tend to suck because of the double dark weather? (i.e. would throwing RNGs at him using Repeating Crossbows w/ Aurorastorm on them work or not?)

from my experience acids don't proc well on odin. double dark weather has made me dismiss holy bolts against him completely; i haven't spent lots of time testing it. i don't think it'd be very effective though because odin seems very resistant to nearly all forms of attack magic.

i'm just not a fan of HF+1 for most areas. it's ok for zergs but ideally you'd be going with culverin for those times. specifically for odin, HF could outperform cobra bow but i'd just feel more comfortable using cobra for the lower delay. unless you absolutely suck, your main concern on odin is finding ways to avoid building lots of enmity, regardless of weapon choice. drawing hate on odin can easily take you out of the fight completely for an extended period of time. draw-in & a couple crits or a TP move can drop you, and you can easily get knocked down again if you try to RR and run from odin. the double weakness screws you badly.

i haven't fought DI since pot-au-feu was discovered. but i was having accuracy issues with o-bow unless i was geared to hell for racc+. vs DI i just prefer to use a longbow because it tends to run all over the place, and the dmg on e-bow seems a bit higher when you're not hitting it squarely from behind. HF+1 vs ixion suffers simply because of the delay. the higher delay on HF+1 can often mean missed shots because DI has run out of range, or dmg reductions because it decided to turn around.

Longbow does full or very very nearly full damage past 10 units, so it's (theoretically) better for Odin while sitting out of AoE range, but really not by that much.
