Bst vs /Bst

Took a quick glance on the forum and didn't see any posts on going bst main vs going /bst. Bst is currently 74, so I was looking into new things to do in a level.

My understanding is that charm is affected by your beastmaster's level, as main or sub. Pretty sure this is agreed, but I wasn't sure how charm's success compared (or if it was actually correct!). At first glance I would assume a 75 bst and a 75 X/bst with the same chr would charm something with equal probability. Bst has in its favor +charm gear that will extend the duration of charm, but the chance of landing charm would have equal success. Can anyone verify?

My main question was what other people with bst 75 use it for compared to /bst. I have other jobs already leveled I was thinking of mixing it with (primarily rdm). Since rdm has curing and defense it seemed like a sturdier mix than bst main. The largest deciding factor would be supply of pets since no jugs for rdm, but I'm still a fledgling bst I'm not sure how often end game fights might require a jug or what other benefits bst main might give.

So if any 75 bsts with other 75s might offer their insight on maining vs. subbing and the relevant factors I would be appreciative. Not trying to argue one of the other, just trying to figure out what sort of situations might warrant one combo over the other. smile.gif

The first thing I was looking to do was solo farm the bomb queen trigs, so if anyone had any advice for that would be helpful!

Ya I had just found it and was reading it now, had tried to search and "/bst" failed as did "subbing bst".
I couldn't find info in the stickies so posted and shortly later found that post, though again it seems less end game orientated from what I read. Considering the 2nd page was already posts from last year, I didn't bother to look that thoroughly.

Seemed like most of that forum was people talking about lower levels or skilling up, though haven't finished reading through it. Since I was looking at end game, combos to level aren't especially useful anymore.

This was a few months ago at the famous G-8 colibri camp in the thickets when I was levelling mnk/bst.

This was going back to about December last year at the very same camp as THF/BST.
(yes this is from my Live Journal so that's why the picture is edited the way it is.)

Oooh this was a very long time ago when I did a ton of soloing on SAM/BST from that thread DaEvilOne posted. biggrin.gif
Yeah I tend to do a lot of stuff as BST and /BST sub and it makes no difference to the success of your charm rate as long as your BST main is at least higher then your what your using it to sub with.
Ideally it should be 75 to get the most benefit out of it but I sub it with almost every job I have difficulty finding a party with. smile.gif
Around lvl 68-73, most of my skills become uncapped so this is when I tend to go off to the colibri camp to get some decent exp and skill up at the same time.

i go blm/bst for easy exp in campaign.

however. my greatest accomplishment, drk/bst using absorb-chr to charm my pets. basically a +24 chr check to your charms!

yeah I've tried that when I was skilling up GA on my DRK as well as doing WS points for ground strike a while ago and it seems to work really well.
Of course, you got to rely on drain/drain II and bloody bolts to keep yourself alive.
DRK has annoyingly poor ranged accuracy skill so it can be a bit crappy if you take too many hits and all your bolts miss when you need it most.
So you really got to keep an eye on pulling hate when you melee along side your pet.
THF/BST works better then I thought it would, even at later levels when you unlock /leave because you get better accuracy on your bolts and evasion so you can miss a few hits if you get hate.

MNK/BST is probably one of the more difficult jobs I've worked with so far since your only means of cure is "chakra" which you can only use once every 5 mins. o.o!

/hugs Nattak

I wouldn't say it's "too strong exactly" but it does take a bit of practice to learn hate control and it means taking off a lot of that heavy attack gear so you don't pull the mob off your pet.
For the colibri camp (pictured in my previous post) there's no way you can solo those at 70-72 as MNK/DNC because of feather tickle and pecking flurry would just own you.
(Mostly because colibri start from VT at 70 and end up as DC/T's at 72.)

Do not under estimate the DNC sub though because it is the best it if you want to wade through FoV camps by targeting EP/DC mobs but anything harder then that, sub BST!

mnk/dnc at 70 is when it starts getting interesting!

the high attack speed means lots of counters.

but at the same time, colibri arent exactly the best things to solo unless you're a drg, the tp loss accounts for that

Yeah I spent a month in Cape Terrigan meriting my MNK/DNC there and it's fairly decent since they added FoV.
It's a bit of a pain during EU/JP times when they overlap because it can be hard finding the mobs you need to complete your hourly quota.

You just gave me the most craziest idea, Nattack!
lol I'll post a screenshop hopefully when I can get a certain colibri camp free. wink.gif

DRG71/BST30!
I had made chain 4 pretty easily at the colibri camp when I bumped in to this guy who was soloing there too so I asked him to team up and we made a pretty decent combo as long as I didn't get hit, lol.
"lolnocureforme!"
I've also been duoing with my brother's lvl 73 BST/WHM in Mount Z as DRG/BST which was a little more tricky since crawlers and basically everything aggros to sound during daytime.
As long as my bro healed me, we were doing fine despite one death from me after 2-3 mischarms on a red crawler. ><

There you go, my crazy idea exposed!

Is DRG/BST a good combo for soloing?
lol probably not but it does enable me to play around with it while I skill up.

Yeah he said he used to be in the same ls as you and he knew me from KI bst forums!
So we're farmous!.. well erm maybe not, lol.

Everyone should level bst first so they can sub it on their other jobs!
Piglorian seemed to agree smile.gif

I just finished Rng 37 for my Cor by playing /bst while waiting the eventual pt. Took me around 1 week, it was amazing. Dc vs Dc is safe and fast.

lol I didn't have a pet charmed when I had my wyvern out as Piglorian was providing us with a leech pet to tank the colibri.
That was mostly because we used level sync to his lvl (68) so this more or less took away my ability to use leave so for safety reasons I just used my wyvern and allowed him to charm the pets and choose the next mob to fight.
Shame that SE won't allow you to use 2 pets at the same time because it would rock so much.

One job that I never really subbed BST on was SMN and that was because it felt a little arkward dismissing an avatar to charm a differen't pet.
As easy as it seems at first, it's a little complicated switching between 2 pallets because both jobs use up a lot of pallet space when it comes to macros.
You do have accesss to cure but it would mean you need to summon carby for that after each fight and then change to your bst pallet to charm the next mob.
I guess you can work it but it would take a bit of practice.
