So I finally did it. I got bored enough with the game, and began to loathe the community attitude enough that I called it quits. I am now free from FFXI and getting ready to Beta Test/Play FFXIV. Well, it's gonna be a fucking long time for that, but still, that seems to be my next MMO. Until then, I will continue to be a nuisance to you guys and return to good ol' console gaming.
Feels weird though... Not being in FFXI anymore.
Also, Geo, Keep in touch bro, you're always fun to talk to.
Calling it quits...

XIV won't be any better. You're hanging out with the wrong people or doing the wrong parts if the community is what is killing you. I only enjoy FFXI when I play with RL friends. We can do almost anything and it will be enjoyable, even XP grind. Go off to do it with random tools, I will almost always find someone I don't like.

Motoh's hit the nail on the head man. No game is fun if you don't know how to find the right people.

Actually, from Georgs's signature, it looks more as if he's hit the nail on the head.

Oh, my bad, sorry Leg. Bye to you too I guess.
Also, to be more precise, it isn't just the dismal community (almost as a whole) that exists on Phoenix these days, but more the monotonous nature of the game at this point. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has been playing since the NA release, but I simply hit my breaking point. When it's 2009 and you are still doing sky because your Heca Harness hasn't dropped, well, for me, that is how this shit is going. I just got to a point logging in that I was doing more talking over Vent with people logged into the game, than actually accomplishing anything in the game itself. I agree that the game is exponentially more fun when played with people you care about, but it's just not quite what it used to be anymore. So yeah, more I am quitting because of the monotony, but I can't lie and say that like 7/10 people offended me because of their in-game ignorance or because they were just total douchebags. Sorry if this wasn't enough of a troll for you guys. I know you have internet standards, but I was being remotely serious.

The title of this thread is very misleading, and I am now a sad panda. Thanks a lot, man.

To be fair I'm kind of getting fed up with some of the stupidity and whininess out there. I play less and less thanks to that. Of course, my constant bouts of real life depression don't add much for me either. Both sort of remove the fun factor for me. But I still have some friends I like to play with. I'd be more likely to quit FFXI myself if it wasn't for the fact most of my real life friends have either moved away or are pissing me off over shit.
a few weeks ago, I was supposed to hang out with one of my best friends for the 1st time in like... a year? Well, he's freakin impossible to contact for the most part, anyway, we were gonna hang out at like 7 on a friday, I check with him to make sure he remembers the day before, and He's like I'm gonna be at another friend's for a while 1st, can we meet at like 9? I'm like OK sure, so friday night, I head out to Steak and Shake at 9. Right as I park, I get a Text that reads "You remember that friend I was hangin out with? Well, he busted out some alcohol and there's no way I can drive now." I was really kinda pissed. That sort of thing is happening a lot to me lately with my real life friends though. That's sort of one of the real reasons I stick to FFXI. Cause my friends online usually don't screw me over like that.

Well, I'm glad you still have friends in the game enough to stick around and continue, If it weren't for SE basically saying FFXI is done after WoTG and the next 2 Add-Ons, and were I still playing with a large group of my friends, I would have then been more likely to continue. FFXI is reaching its end however. I don't mean that in the sense that it will get shutdown, because I don't feel that it will, atleast not for years to come. However, when they confirm that the content is going to be stopping within about a years time, well, that is basically the game ending to me. Also, most of my really good friends, including some that I flew all the way out to California to meet, have quit the game, had kids, gotten degrees, and just simply moved on from the game. For me it got to a point to where my quality in-game time with friends was doing Sheep in Antlions Clothing with 3 people, every 5 days. Aside from that, I couldn't find anyone to help me get an X's Knife (Always got excuses here) or the like, or hell, even come up with anything that I could do to help them. We were just simply bored out of our minds. I meripo'd with
friends, because that is about all that they will agree to, and claimed and kited King Vinegarroon for an hour a day until we wiped to him because noone in our ls or on our friends list would show up. I mean, the examples of the dismal quality of game time are endless.
Kudos to you that you still have enough friends and time to make this game enjoyable, but I simply did not. The game still holds certain fundamental flaws that have finally caught up with me because of the lack of enthusiasm that the people around me had, myself included. Will XIV be this way? I am sure it will over time, but it would be ignorant and naive to say that it will be this way from the beginning. It will all be fresh content that probably half a million people will be enjoying together. XI has nearly been reduced, atleast to the effect that I experienced it to, to a bunch of lethargic LSmates, waining friends, and corporate-like endgame shells that monopolize everything you ever wanted. I just have no desire to continue interacting with that stuff, and getting stressed out, when most of my friends have gone on to different things, and there is is a fucking plethora of awesome games coming out within a year. I'm going to go back to console games until DIablo 3 comes out and ends up playing like WoW instead of Diablo, and FFXIV comes out and I get to start over.
I know this came across as "Whiny" and stuff, but it's a true account of the frustration I felt with the game and I simple wanted to post it here for the few that knew me to see. Were Legault still in the game (Not that he gives 2 shits lololol) and were Georgs actually logging in for more than 5 minutes 3 nights a week, well, I would have likely said this elsewhere. I apologize for getting your hopes up about this thread with the title, even though that is about as well as I could have conveyed my emotions with words, but it's just a title.
Good luck to all of you that still play, I hope you continue to have fun and get lots of goodies. Hell, I'm sure everyone will be sporting a Relic soon enough with currency possibly being low-manned now. Don't let my little rant deter you from what you love to do, it was just me releasing some weight and to tell some people I knew, that I was done for good.
Also, Syl, fucking wonderful. I heard it went to Aman, which is fucking stupendous. Such is my luck that we have 3 drop in 2 full years, all of which should be mine, and I have to miss because I get wrecked by a hurricane, lose power for multiple days, and then finally because I get fed up with it, Lol.
EDIT: I'd be careful with claims about people in this game not letting you down. It is subject to the same shitty happenings that happen on Earth, you have simply gotten lucky thus far. I hope it doesn't, but it's highly likely you will be upset with it at one point.
