Blue Mage: Just a minor complaint.... learning a monsther ability should be 100% like in pervious FFs

If BLU learnt all its spells 100% I'd demand SE adds a NPC which sells every magic scroll in the game for less than 1k.

I guess you've never heard of NIN/DRK. Being a PLD, my best co-tanks are usually NINs.

This, NIN/DRK and NIN/RDM are pretty damn awesome.

With how annoying it can be I don't see why not. Disseverment took me ~2-3 hours to get and to helpe people with.

I don't disagree that BLU spells are a bitch, but 100% is far to easy.
Learning spells has a cost, BLU shouldn't be any different.

Considering all BLU spells are free, I have to agree. If BLM has to pay 100k for Flood, BLU shouldn't be able to get every single spell at a 100% rate.

You may not realize it, but you've just made the argument for Rangers being useless...

The same can be said with all other damage dealers.

EDIT: Would be lame is BLU could get a 100% learning spell rate.

Kind of on a separate subject, but I don't get why some people are thinking FFXIV is going to be this utopia where everything is easier. I'm very sure SE is going to put things in there that are going to frustrate you, just at a different level of gameplay now.

Amen.

I would like to see, if the add blu again, gear that gives a quantitative figure for boosting blu spell learning.

The hands dont do jack it feels like.

The FFXI Blue Mage should be re-introduced into FFXIV as the job it was meant to be: Red Mage.

On that note, they should rename the FFXI Red Mage to White Mage. tongue.gif

BLU is more of a melee mage than RDM?

RDM in FFXI is RDM though. I never used RDM to melee in previos FF games. Well, I never used RDM.

You miss Crisp's brand of sarcasm. Blue Mage is a Melee mage. A well balanced job that's meant to fight with swords and cast magic. In FFXI it's a back line healing job.

LOL. BLU only fight with magic. They were pretty lucky to have SE base their magic accuracy and dmg on the main hand weapon and tp. If I remember correctly before blu came out, from a 1up interview, they thought that it was going to be a back line job like a black mage! but at that time they said that they were still working on that.
I don't see BLU more of a "sword user" than RDM. LOLbluemage-melee.

BLU does pretty decent with a sword. Their selection of swords is also superior to RDM's. Plus they don't have to sub anything to get Vorpal Blade unless I'm mistaken.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound too obscure.

Really, the sad joke is Blue Mage plays very similarly to how many people wish they could play Red Mage. Red Mage gets back-lined because their melee isn't damage dealer grade, and there's no advantage to leaving them on the front line.
With Blue Mage, however, you get the best of all worlds. You can do some emergency healing, but you're not generally expected to play support job. You can use your magic abilities to unleash some fantastic damage, and even solo skillchain and magic burst if you so wish. Almost any spell or effect can be obtained through blue magic as well, short of raise and refresh. It truly is a generalist mage who can melee, which was really what Red Mage was meant to be all along.

Meanwhile, what Red Mages really ended up being were White Mages who didn't run out of mp. Sure, they have a few nukes, but they certainly couldn't substitue for a black mage or scholar by any stretch.

I used to think there's no way Red Mages should get Raise 2 or Regen 2 because it maligned an already teetering White Mage job. Now, I think it would have been a greater kindness to hand over Raise 3 and Regen 3 and be done with it. We should have wholly embraced Red Mage as the new White Mage and just tossed the old White Mage job under a bus tongue.gif

No one seems to be acknowledging the actual nuking aspect of BLU. Geared correctly, Eyes on Me, Firespit, even Breaths can do some respectable damage. Ever seen a BLU using Eyes on Me on Tinnin?

Convert and Refresh certainly weren't any help. I recall, they were meant for Rdm melee because they couldn't hMP without losing TP (before Signet bonuses) and Convert was actually for physical-heavy rdm that wanted to cure themselves with a job ability that drained all their mp.

The main reason RDMs can't replace SCH or BLM is simply because C level skill doesn't cut it =/

BST needs to be mentioned in here if it was not cause that job fails hard.

BST doesn't suck. They can equip the same around the same gear as a WARs can, and their pets ignore monsters defense.

BST is in the same boat as BLU. It's unpopular due to crappy players and the lack of people understanding the job.

No they suck which is the reason why they are not used... Give me a important situation where a BST would outshine MOST or any job classes out there and soloing phonomia aqueducts (sp) is not important. BST can be out dd'd and out specialzed by a TON of jobs. You can't even control what your pet does... issuing sic and your pet does a WS that will cause DOT on something you might wanna sleep? gogo BST!
