hi everyone,

im a 71 rng atm

i was thinking of trying out my Jupiter's Staff w/brave grip and a Pahluwan Khazagand. (to me it seems like a good idea) when i leveled (@5k atm lol)

but in a pt me and my drg friend where in we decided to test he was parsing(sp?) but it didnt seem to give me any boost to my rng crit hit, i phased almost 1% less crit hit rate with the Jupiter then i did with my Vulcan.

dose crit hit + items not work with /ra? or was i just very unlucky?

Didn't we have a thread like this just a week or two ago? Maybe it was in another job forum, I read too many.

Ok, quick run-down, here is how critical hit rate works in FFXI:

1.) If a weapon says "Critical Hit Rate +X%," that only applies to the weapon itself. In the case of Jupiter's Staff, it means that you will land more critical hits using it than you would using a Vulcan's Staff.

2.) If any item says "Enhances critical hit rate" or a piece of augmented armor says "Critical Hit Rate +X," that applies to all attacks. Hence Pahluwan Khazagand and Skadi's armor enhance any weapon you have equipped, including ranged.

Critical Hit Rate merits fall into category 2.

shouldn't it be
1) said on a weapon
2) any other boost

seeing as Hachiryu Haramaki, Zahak's Mail say it as 'Critical Hit Rate +x%" and its not augmented

seeing as the Jupiter's Staff didn't seem to effect my /ra i can guess that group 1 dosnt effect it

but how sure are you that group 2 dose?
i don't really now how this can be tested, beside maybe a sam with Hachiryu Haramaki and Kawahori Kabuto, blinding him self and shooting arrows. (seem would be hard to tell with just a 5% boost)

or maybe "Increases rate of critical hits" will effect /ra and 'Critical Hit Rate +x%" dosnt?

or maybe it just dosnt?

do you have a link to the other post you can find so that i can read it?

note: the brave grip dose not seem to be that useful seeing as the Jupiter's Staff dose not work sad.gif

The "other post" was me saying the same thing. This isn't news and I don't have a central clearinghouse to point you at to prove it. The fact that I tend to know these things because I read about the game constantly and am usually right should be sufficient, but since you witnessed exactly what I was talking about, I don't see why you'd dispute.

And, yeah, I wasn't clear enough with group 2 because I forgot about Zahak's Mail. If it says "Critical hit rate +x%" on a weapon, it applies to that weapon only.

my English isnt the best, and i dont mean to dount what your saying.

i do belive and im not dispuing the fact that it seem crit hit + on melee weapons dosnt effect /ra.

once i get it, i can test Pahluwan Khazagand vs Hunter's Jerkin, to see if the "Increases rate of critical hits" will effect, but with the unknown amount beleved to be =/< 5%, it be hard to truly jugde if the effect works

i don't have the means to get a Hachiryu Haramaki to test "Critical Hit Rate +x%"

if any one has tested this it be nice to know is all im asking

im note 100% sure if it worth knowing seeing as 5% is the most we can raise(with out Ifrit hanging out in your pt) it and thats hardly going to be worth it
as a side note some one reading about thing then tell me about will never be sufficient for me to just believe it.

Ranged critical hits aren't a big deal, anyhow.
