Because if you're looking for CE, /RDM is your choice (giving substantial bene's to defensive traits as well). If you're looking for VE, /WAR is your optimal bet. /DRK is ok, but I wouldn't go out of my way to level it considering the alternatives.

I have no conceivable idea how you arrived at this conclusion. Provoke is a terrible VE tool. In its most rudimentary form, the VE granted has completely dried out by the time the recast has run to zero.

1,280 VE/15 Seconds vs. 1,800 VE/30 seconds

The above should make the choice quite clear, but if it doesn't, toss in the fact that you also have Last Resort, Souleater, and Weapon bash to supplement your VE.

Why would you need a special sub for VE anyway? You can cap VE within 30 seconds with no subjob at all.....

Yeah I know, I guess it's just people that STILL don't understand Enmity.

How are you getting 15 seconds? My last count was 22 seconds on the recast for Stun. Don't factor Flash in there, you get that with /WAR sub as well.

1280 VE dries up in 21.3 seconds, so, unlike Provoke, VE acquired is completely gone even before you get a chance to recast. 'Voke isn't affected by Haste, which is double-edged; you can stack enmity gear instead of focusing on haste.

I will admit that LR and Souleater provide substantial bonuses which I didn't take a look at, just thought 'zerk, Defender, and Warcry would cover that ground. Taking a look at what they actually produce I can confirm that they do not, and those skills would put you in the lead in that regard. Weapon bash is only usable with 2h weapons, so I guess if you're willing to burn your TP you can do that.

Playstyle, etc.

Hey, captain pretentious, blow it out your ass? I still don't see a purpose for sub DRK.

I like /drk for dynamic-xarc personally, and tavnazia.

An extra stun is always good there(and drk gives you 2 ways to stun if you save it for when you don't need tp), and you have a ton of claim tools to keep stuff off the mages on big pulls which is where /war is lacking. You have 2 claim tools. With /drk you have like 6.

/wars all right in 1v1 fights, but in very rapid machine gun style fights with large amounts of mobs in rapid succession it falls flat on its face precisely because the reuse on Provoke is so long and you have nothing else but that from the sub.

For other dynamic zones, I prefer /rdm since the majority of the mobs hit so weak anyway that I'm more worried about potential magic attacks.

CE VE LVL MP Cast Time
Bind 1 640 20 8 2.00

640+1280=1920 which is greater than 1800 and can be done every 22.5 seconds assuming capped haste. Now lets factor in some enmity. Given a decent 26 enmity in other slots and max reasonable(no hydra stuff) enmity, IR set is the highest at 4 4 3 and Trance Belt is 4 for 14, in other slots you'll be at 40 on Vokes and 29 on your haste build thanks to Homam Hands 3 enmity. This gives Voke 2520 VE per round and Bind+Stun 825+1651=2476. Take this per minute and you're at ~6603 VE/MIN(Its 6602 and 2/3s gimme a break) on the spells but only 5040 VE/MIN on Voke.

26 Enmity can be gained via Koenig Shield Valor Surcoat Valor Cape Ritter Gorget Sattva Ring Hercule's Ring, and Aegishjalmr.

Now lets give you crazy pimped gear at a whoopin 61 enmity in full Hydra with Baha Mask and everything else you can slip on and a mere 44 when in full haste. 8114 per min on Vokes and 921+1843=2764 giving you 7372 per min with just those two spells. Now add sleep giving you 1843 VE and CE per min at 4 casts a minute and /DRK's multiple spells once again beats out /war.

Summery:: /drk gives more than just stun since it has some of /RDMs hate spells too

It's not pretentiousness, it's math.

/DRK gives you much more options to generate VE (Which is what you noted as being superior for /WAR) than /WAR, along with lower recasts on your "main" VE options. (Stun @22 seconds with capped Haste, Voke at 30 no matter what).

Add to that 2 (3 if you swap to a 2h weapon for Weapon Bash, which I don't do but it is an option) JAs that spike VE, compared to /WARs one large VE spike (Warcry, not counting Provoke since it's in the same vein as Flash and Stun).

I can't really explain it better than that, and I'm not trying to be a jerk, but PLD/DRK excels above PLD/WAR in VE accumulation.

Although AsDraBael said it best, you can cap VE with no subjob on PLD during your first Sentinel, any sub you use is just to be able to handle what you're fighting. (/NIN for most prolonged fights, /RDM or /DRK for crowd control or kiting some things, /RDM for some straight tanking, it's situational)
