A host of job adjustments and additions are in the pipes for the upcoming version update, including formidable new abilities for ninjas. Other jobs, too, are scheduled to benefit from myriad adjustments to magic and abilities. In this, the first part in the job adjustment series of articles, we cast the spotlight on ninjas, Vana'diel's agents of stealth and deception.

New Job Abilities
Accomplished in both offense and defense, the art of ninjutsu has over the years proven to be a favorite among adventurers across the land. Now, with the addition of the following two new abilities, ninjas can further enhance either their efficiency in offense or aptitude in defense as befits the situation.

- Yonin (Lv.40 Ability Delay: 5 min. Duration: 5 min.)
Increases enmity and enhances "ninja tool expertise" effect, but impairs accuracy. Grants a bonus to evasion and critical hit rate when in front of target.

- Innin (Lv.40 Ability Delay: 5 min. Duration: 5 min.)
Reduces enmity and impairs evasion. Grants a bonus to accuracy, critical hit rate, and ninjutsu damage when striking target from behind.

- Yonin
Strengthens one's ability to fend off blows from the enemy.
While in effect, Yonin increases enmity and enhances the effect of "ninja tool expertise" in exchange for reduced accuracy. Further bonuses are granted to evasion and critical hit rate when engaging your target from the front.
The potency of the above effects gradually decreases over time.

- Innin
Strengthens one's ability to deal damage to the enemy.
While in effect, Innin lowers enmity in exchange for reduced evasion. Further bonuses are granted to accuracy, critical hit rate, and ninjutsu damage when striking your target from behind.
As with Yonin, the potency of the above effects gradually decreases over time.

*Notes
The effects of both Yonin and Innin are mutually exclusive. Activating one while the other is in effect will result in the nullification of the one originally in effect.
Yonin and Innin have a shared ability delay. For example, a ninja who uses Yonin must wait for five minutes to elapse before either ability becomes usable again.

In implementing these new abilities, the development team has taken into consideration character positioning during party play and many other factors. To ensure a smooth gaming experience for all, testing and adjustments will be carried out to the fullest extent that time permits.

Mijin Gakure
Up until now, ninjas who were revived after using the job ability "Mijin Gakure" would find themselves alive and standing, but in a weakened state. The July version update will see self-sacrificing ninjas restored to battle-ready fitness with a generous 50% of HP in the tank.

In light of the above changes, the latent effect granted by the ninja mythic weapon will also be adjusted. In place of the effect whereby users of Mijin Gakure are spared being revived in a weakened state, a special new effect will be introduced that will activate after using Mijin Gakure.

Other magic and job abilities scheduled to be on the receiving end of improvements will be introduced in the very near future, so stay tuned!

yonin seems great for NIN tanks... i dont get why they have to have the diminishing effect thing.. or the shared timer to be honest..

Hmm interesting, Nice that the nin gets some new stuff but how useful is it really? One can only imagine. I wonder how bad the Acc minus will be. Isnt SOME of the nin tanking based on the damage you do? When I leveled my nin at least (to 37 a long time ago) I was very DD oriented and found it easier to tank the more damage I outputed. Regardless this is a buff to a job that was in long need of a new toy. And QTF blm/smn new stuff yes please.

should be noted that in FR and JP version of this teaser, the Yonin ability comes with crit hit taken rate bonus, not crit hit rate.

Japanese version:

Yonin
blablabla...と 被クリティカルヒット率 にボーナスを得る。

same as FR, critical hit taken rate 被クリティカルヒット率, not critical hit rate. 被 means to receive.

Innin
blablabla...とクリティカルヒット率、忍 ダメージにボーナスを得る。

says Crit hit rate クリティカルヒット率.

you can compare since the NA version calls them both same effects, but here even if you don't know japanese u can tell its different.

in other words, french version is the same as JP, seems like its the correct one. NA screwed up again

his sounds an awful like the Shadowy Veil and Striking Veil abilities that I posed long ago >.> Basically the idea was that
Shadowy Veil: Decreased Enmity generated by casting Ninjitsu and increased evasion
Striking Veil: Increased Enmity generated by casting Ninjitsu and increased attack power

Holy crap maybe SE reads the forums lol

Game companies pay people on their staff to read forums. Even ones that they don't support as premier sites.

JAs seem kind of meh in a PT setup since I always considered my damage on Ninja to be one of top hate tools. Innin could make NIN a potential DD in some cases though.

So if it IS Enemy Crit rate+ and not a NIN's own crit rate, this would basically be a JA vers of Toreader's Cape, just hopefully not to such a substantial %. I can see this being useful in scenarios where you dont actually engage the mob for NIN tanking, like cerby and other "DO NOT MOVE IT" nms. Innin looks like theyre trying to make NINs into THF-like DDs instead of Tank-DDs (or heaven-forbid attempting to encourage NIN/thf in exp!!)

The 2hr is huge.

NIN's have a second chance if they go down in a fight.

I was excited as fucking hell when I saw this.

And now, I'm just...kinda meh...

They're nice additions and all, but these arn't going to fix the problem with the job. I guess it depends on how big the bonuses are, though.

Mijin Gakure bonus is nice- I wonder what will happen to the Nagi. I hope it's not "restore you to 100% HP instead of 50%". >_>

While I counsel not getting overly excited, I don't think we should dismiss these updates until we see them. Composure seemed like trash when we first heard about it, after all.

Oh yeah, the English translation is on target this time actually, if you look at the Japanese one.

And yeah, I'm certainly going to hold my judgment. No matter what, these will be quite useful. I'm not sure why they feel the need to have the diminishing effects and such though- is it really that powerful of a bonus?

In case anyone is wondering I guess, the Japanese names are like "Light Ninja" and "Dark Ninja". Yin and yang, all that stuff.

Finally. A reason to merit as NIN again.

Nothing will ever make NIN comparable to RDM tank though, so the tanking JA wont ever see any use from me.

The loss of Acc. with Yonin won't make much of a difference with NIN/DRK tanking for the most part to me since I usually tank with Earth Staff anyway. lolPLD/NIN. I'm really looking forward to bringing out my NIN again. Yay SE!
