So I hear MNK 1-20 then nin the rest is the way to go? Im personally not a big fan of /nin so if I was to go /war or something at least till the 50s would I be looking at alot of solo?

You'll more than likely be looking at solo anyways reguardless of sub, /nin adds an extra dagger with extra acc on it. Shadows aren't a big help because you shouldn't be getting hate anyways. DNC def is so low it isn't very effective to tank /war beyond 30, and that's probably pushing it. In the higher lvls /sam becomes an option, though it really doesn't do much more than /nin. The free TP is nice for things like FoV when spamming Dancing Edge gets fun, or Besieged so you have access to TP w/o hitting the mob. Really /nin is the premiere sub job for DNC, though it doesn't much shine except for soloing NM's 70+ and Dual Wield.
Some people do haste builds with /drg, but thats more endgame too. If you have /bst use that and solo the whole way.
And try reading the stickies next time.

I have never been a fan of /nin the whole way on Dnc. The bolded statement is only true if you are trying to tank with /nin and eva gear. The community as a whole did not want to use Dnc as a tank so it is only used as a support job. Ive given up on trying to convince people on these forums but I just wanted to reply to your thread.
Other subs that work are /sam once you get Meditate, /drg once you get High Jump and the haste earring, /war and gear with eva and def (including merits) and blood tanking.
Edit: I just wanted to touch on the colibri comment from Kleiner. I was able to tank them with no problem I just made sure that I had Finishing moves waiting for when I got Feather Tickled. And when I did Imps I made sure Drain Samba was the first thing I casted and tried to maintain that up until I was hit with Amnesia. Dnc can really tank all the way to 75 on /war. Once merits come into play it gets harder to keep hate from other DD's. I merited my Dnc as if it was an Eva Pld.
Just to add one more thing. At 75with merits I have found that /pld actually works better than /war at getting and keeping hate. I know Im probably the only one that has tried this because I never see any /pld and when I have asked I was laghed at but I have to say that it really does work at 75 with merits. Also I have the Airy Buckler as my shield. Shield Mastery helps with minimizing dmg and Flash really helps to maintain hate along with making the mob miss.

DNC can tank quite easily all the way to colibri (colibri put a stop to it, thanks to feather tickle) the only mobs i had issues with were Spides and that's because the slow just fucked my TP gain, not because of Sickle Slash.
Also, having two DNC in one party works well. both sub NIN, both use animated flourish, and both heal everything they can. One uses Quick step, one uses Boxstep. Hate will be forever solified on the two, and any damage they actually take from shadows dropping will be covered by waltzes.
If youre not tanking, /NIN is really the way to go. Waltzes pull more enmity than normal cures, and you're meleeing which just means even more agro. You NEED those shadows to keep yourself alive, and the second dagger results in more TP gain. In all reality it's just the way to go until very late in your leveling.

Meh, I pt'd with a DNC around 20 that did fine /war and tanking but whenever I took a hit on DNC it was too high for me to consider tanking as a DNC so I never really bothered. I guess you could do fine, I suppose I didn't take a few things into consideration.
