Amazing things about FFXI Things we forget to appreciate

So I was thinking about how amazing FFXI and how it sets itself apart from so many other games. Earlier I was playing this roblox game where you create your own pirate ship with like legos, and sail it around trying not to hit things so it doesnt fall apart; the reason I was playing it is that I was a bit tired of leveling Theif in dunes for the time, and needed a small vacation away from it. Isn't that funny to think of that you would need a vacation away from a game.

I think that, that is one of the huge things that sets FFXI above all others. You must work terribly hard to get what you want, but the reward is so much greater. I think some people like to live in the moment. Like my brother who I envy, yes still worries me, they don't really pay attention to what is to come in comparasin to what is already here. For others, I think that the idea of invisioning a plan, and following through with it is what might be considered fun. I realize that i'm generallizing a bit, but the idea stands.

FFXI does such an amazing job of letting us make our own plan. We choose so much about the path our avatar takes. I don't mean specifically picking a job, but even crafting, or playing the economy. Personally, I'm a level 15 theif, but I am a Goldsmither moreover. The plan that I'v chosen wraps around how to make money the best way in the game. I don't want to be the strongest, or be in the best HNMLS. I just want to make as much money as I can. I have played a lot of MMORPG's and every single one is all wraped around level.

Gosh, it's 9:35am. I have a 10am summer class, so i'll finish this when I get to class.

P.S. I got level 3-6 WAR while typing this <3 A bit proud of myself lol

This MMORPG is older, so naturally it has a lot more high levels. This in a way is a good thing. Having so many high levels means that lower levels have better chances of being friends with a high level, and therefor getting help with difficult missions. On the downside, having half the server with a level 99 crafting level severly cuts down on profits for those crafters. SE should have thought about that when they planned the economy. Farmer selling their mats to people leveling crafts, or crafting things. When most of the crafters have level'd their job, demand for mat's aren't as high. This hurts the farmers. When having so many crafters, prices are lower for crafts, which hurts the crafter themselves. In addition to this, with the lower number of low levels in the game, their isn't much need for low level gear. This means that low level farmers have an increasingly difficult time making money becasue demand simply isn't as high.

I think SE has done a good job about making sure the highlevels have something to do. Being level 75 is almost nothing anymore. Now the player focuses on getting gear. This to me, is a kind of leveling even if it isn't getting Interger levels.

I can't immagine what FFXI must have been like when it was new. Noone knowing how to do the quests. People making gil from NPCing. No such thing as a PL in dunes. I wonder who the first person to try attack a god was. I bet they were surprised tongue.gif

Even now FFXI has a lot of wonder. When it rains in La Thein, it's amazing. With all of Earth's natural places being consumed by us, it's rare to see such sureal, unscathed places. Who wouldn't love to have a la thain platau they could run to everytime they wanted to get away to think. It may sound a bit geeky, but sometimes, when i'm sad in game, I run their.

Another geeky thing is, when I go to the beach, I can't help but to take off my sandals, and run through the sand pretending i'm in Dunes. I even got white sand for my fish tank just to remind me of Dunes.

The airship music is really nice too. When I play FFXI, I feel like I can really lose myself in the game. It's funny how, if I had to think to one of the best places i'v been too in my life, if I wasn't afraid to sound like a complete geek, I would almost say dunes, or rideing the airship. When i'm really stressed out, and I can't be on FFXI, I listen to the airship music and close my eyes, and pretend i'm rideing it tongue.gif

Don't get me wrong, I don't think I have an unhealthy addiction to FFXI. I still go to school, still go out with friends, still keep my grades, but the FFXI world is apart of me, and will always be I think.

Sorry to almost blog, but I do have a really big appreciation for FFXI, and I have more to say, but i'll save it for later since i'm sure noone reads this anyways.

P.S. I get home from school, and server is down -.- my luck lol

Awesome outlook on playing the game, was truly a joy to read. Sometimes we imerse ourselves in the task at hand instead of stepping back and looking at the true enjoyment of the game. I have been playing since release and only have 3 jobs @ 75... work and kids consume most of my time... but I still can understand the pure joy of leveling a job... yes even in the dunes... Speaking of needing high lvl help, hit me up and I will help with anything you need. Ultimataru ~.^

Yeahhh... FFXI was totally a part of my life when I played it. I'd still be playing if my computer wasn't such a sadist. It's a laptop, so the cord is really easy to unplug. Cat comes by... thwoop! Unplugged, instantly dies because the battery is faulty (I actually even doubt its existence), so I have to keep plugging it in. Party I was in (like most parties, especially lots of jp parties) goes "d/c. he's not coming back. get new membar now pl0x". and when I come back 3 minutes later, Xxxsephirothxxx has replaced me donning a subligar with a club as PLD making the beetle we're fighting take the club to its base because it's being blinded by the gay, helplessly.

Is 15 THF your highest? Keep playing... we need(ed) more attitudes like yours XD You're upbeat and it makes me smile.
Truth is... I miss this game a lot sometimes. Replying to thread title, most amazing thing... ummm... #1 would be exploring the game when I was a noob, no other game has captured that experience... #2 the community. You'd be surprised how helpful and knowledgeable they can be. Instead of some blathering idiot on WoW doing everything BUT telling you what you need to know (in 1337speak, nonetheless), FFXI players (the nice ones) will usually answer your cry for help like the cops. "POLICE! Yes. Yes, we heard, ma'am. There's a Goblin in your vicinity? It's doing what? Well that doesn't sound sanitary! And he's wearing a bondage outfit!? Oh.. well, all goblins wear that, but nonetheless, TELEPORT DEM, GOGOGO GUYS!" and they bust up in that bitch like total badasses.
