Make use of all of your abilities. It always sucked partying with a Dancer who would do nothing but occasionally waltz, and completely ignore Reverse Flourish and steps.
If you've gotten up to CoP 2-3 you can get the Rapparee harness from the Fomor Subligar quests. It's useful all the way up to 75, but of course there are other pieces that are better for different situations.
Something I wish I knew before leveling it..... I guess I wish I would have researched DNC's viability in end game a little more. I probably would have leveled the job anyway, but I was disappointed to find out that people don't give DNC a chance in group end game activities.
Good luck with the job, I hope you like it as much as I did.

I agree, there doesn't seem to be any place for DNC once you get to 75 other than Campaign and Soloing, its a Jack-of-all-trades and master of none really, whatever spot it could take up in a Party can always be done better by another job!
In my experience it makes Duo or Trio parties work because of the flexibility, so if you find yourself getting stuck of invites around the mid levels find a lonesome PUP or BST and a DRG etc
None the less its still a very fun job to play and having fun is what its all about!
My suggestion for starting at the beginning, sub MNK and use Hand-to-Hand until level 20 and get some attack food like Grilled hare which is nice for beginning levels and lasts 3 hours, then move to Meat Jerky at around lvl 12-14.
Drain samba is all you really get until level 15 which is nice but isn't really going to be that useful in a pinch, so focus on killing stuff fast!
The only other alternative I can suggest is subbing BLU and use a sword if you have it, whatever job you have BLU is the best sub until 20 because of the stat bonuses you get from having spells equipped.
Also Spells like Cocoon, Pollen, Wild Oats & Sprout Smack etc make soloing all that much easier.
I hope this helps

If you need a PL to level DNC, you fucking fail... The job is so easy to stay alive on... What else are you going to do with your TP? Do shitty damage?

Solo, a lot. My DNC solo'd right till 70ish then I burnt it to 75.
If you're expecting anything like end game shells, just as stated above unless you have some real good gear for it, no one will give you a chance.
If you're looking for fun and solo, you found the right job. I have an awesome EVA set and there isn't anything reasonable that I cannot solo on DNC. It also makes a great backup tank on some fights that aren't too hard. Byakko, Seiryu, Suzaku ,some minor HNMs. Stuff you won't have to worry so much about having /war or /drk to hold hate vs due to TAWS'.
As for gear, if you ever want it to get to 75 w/o getting entirely annoyed with it....lol just follow the gear guide in the stickies.
Some lower level shiny gear would be Bounding Boots and Empress Hairpin.

Get yourself a Rogetsurin. Equipable at 15, it is the earliest throwing weapon you can get and the only one you'll need until Artifact Weapon. You can pick one up off of Haty or Bendigeit Vran at night during a full moon or new moon. 100% drop rate.
Pulling isn't essential, but being able to is nice.
For subjobs, if you ever consider subbing brd or cor for support-type, go with corsair. Singing takes away alot of your swings but a Dice roll will only take a moment.
Typically, /mnk is feasable but after 50, people will start prefering you go /nin and duel wield daggers.
Anytime you fight crabs or crawlers without dispel or defense down, it's usually a good idea to switch to mnk and get a pair of knuckles (not cesti, maybe bagnankhs or claws, but absolutely not cesti). The higher delay weapons typically hit harder whereas lower delay weapons might give you a bunch of zeros and ones.

FOR GOD'S SAKE USE YOUR FRIGGIN' FLOURISHES
... especially reverse flourish
You have no clue how many idiotic DNCs I've seen who just sat on their asses using samba and waltz's only...
Also in higher levels, don't be afraid to main heal if the party asks you to. I've actually had a couple of DNC's who refused to heal because "DNC's can't main heal..." It's quite sad, really.

Parse when you can to get a realistic idea of what you're contributing to the party, how much damage you're dealing, healing, etc.
Some of my experience with dancer:
Parse
Parse
Parse
Drain Samba heals for A LOT more than you realize (almost always worth it pre-40/haste)
Steps are worthwhile, helping everyone's damage slightly adds up
Dancer's tend contribute less melee damage than they think
Hand-to-hand is pretty solid choice til 36 when you move to fighting colibri in the past
It's important to figure out your role in the party, what you can contribute, how you could improve, etc etc. Sometimes you can be a hybrid DD, sometimes you might need to spam waltzes.
Your role will change, but just recognize that once you get to 75 it's highly unlikely you'll really be needed on dancer. You can make it work, but you have a worse stigma than pups.

Here's a tip. Don't tp in full fucking AF like 75% of the DNC I've seen.

I full timed my AF on DNC all the way to Cobra Unit Harness set which I still use at 75, I don't see why people don't like this set. The AF hands are nice because they give ACC and EVA, great if you're going to be tanking all the time (which you should if you're a good dnc!). The Tiara is nice because CHR gives Waltz potency, and the -enmity will allow other people to co-tank with you. The shoes add attack, nuff said. The tights have ACC, CHR and -enmity on them, and you should never take them off. Finally the best piece of them all is the Casaque. With it's mix of STR and DEX (which will help you crit more often) it is a top choice for a melee body. Add in the fact that it has -enmity and +10 % Waltz potency and it should be easy to see why you would never want to remove this piece from your body. To top it all off, you can use the War Hoop to increase your Waltzes beyond imagination.

Really? You contradict yourself a bit by saying if you're a good dnc, you should always be tanking, then in nearly the same breath you praise -enmity.
The gear is fairly good, I'll agree to that. The Casaque is a macro piece at best since you should be using Rapparee for a TP build or SH if you aren't landing many hits. The Tiara is macro as well. I'd gladly use Emp Hairpin over that. I suppose the rest would be alright until the cobra gear you suggested. I never attempted to get it, but that's just me.
Editted for forgetting a word ><

If you would have actually read what I said, I stated that a good DNC will be pulling hate and tanking, but with the -enmity, it will allow for an inferior DD to pull hate. And like I like I stated, not only is the Casaque going to help you hit more, you'll also hit harder. If more people lived by that, then maybe DNC would be viewed less as a TP feeding job, and more of a DD job.
I could go into why I used Cobra gear, but just by looking at it the reasons should be self explanatory.

Use Shadowstitch over Viper Bite for a WS. Even though many THF use Viper Bite with SATA, the damage caps really low, especially with no modifiers and if you your pdif is somewhat high(either from fighting low mobs, brd songs, food and/or building flourish). I'd say its pretty important for soloing and duoing or any other situation where you are fighting weaker mobs and won't use your tp to heal as often. Not saying when you should ws or not, just saying that shadowstich is superior and should be used over viperbite if you decide to. I wish I had known that before lv57.

I'd use Viper Bite just because it adds poison which is pretty awesome DoT.
