So, I had this idea for a Naruto based MMO, and before I go any further, this is all created by me, and I would prefer any negative comments to stay out of the thread. Positive feedback is welcome, but if you don't like the subject, stop reading and don't post any distasteful criticism, please.
I also want to apologize ahead of time for the incoming wall of text, but here is a layout for the game as I imagine it would be:
Welcome to the Shinobi world! Here you may create, customize and grow with your very own ninja based on the manga and anime series of Naruto and Naruto Shippuuden. Let's begin!
Beginnings
The setting will take place around the same era as Shippuuden, perhaps a little later storyline wise. Many of the same names and faces you see in the manga and anime may appear in storylines and as NPCs.
Your adventure begins after your ninja is created. You can give your ninja a name, gender, customized hair, eye color, height, weight, size and clothing. You may also align your ninja to have 1 elemental affinity from the start, choosing earth, water, fire, wind or lightning. Along the way, you may progress your ninja's ability to use such elements in attacks or jutsu's, or at your discretion, use other forms of combat including taijutsu or genjutsu. Your ninja, with training, can become an expert in any or all fields of ninja combat. The choice is yours to make!
After creating your ninja, you may choose any of the 5 great countries to reside in, the land of fire, the land of wind, the land of rain, the land of grass or the land of lightning. In each country there is a number of hidden villages, one of which is assigned to each country for you to begin in. Ex. If you chose the land of fire, you can begin in Konohagakure. If you chose the land of lightning, you can begin in kumogakure, etc. Once you choose a country and village, you must then chose a clan to belong to, which will determine your last name and heritage in the game.
Now let's get started! You've created your ninja, you've chosen your village, you've picked your clan.. now what?
Game Play
Now that you've created an identity in the game, let's begin getting stronger! Your first mission in the game is to join the ninja academy. When you start off, you begin as a normal person joining the ninja academy to become a ninja. You must undergo basics and learn how to control chakra, mold chakra, and use techniques. Once you complete all of your basic training you must then pass the exams given to you to become a Genin. Once you become a Genin, you are free to do what you want until you are given missions. You can train, complete quests, collect items, etc.
Genin level training: Once you become a Genin, you can undergo many different styles of training. You can either chose to train alone by visiting training facilities, going out into the wild and training by yourself, or group up with friends and train with each other. There are several different methods to training, which will be explained in segments.
Scrolls: Scrolls are found via quests or found on certain enemies, which can teach many different things. Special ninjutsu, taijutsu and genjustu techniques can be found on the scrolls, giving you the ability to learn any techniques found on them, presuming you are strong enough to learn them. But how do you become strong enough? By increasing your chakra or physical strength. But how do I increase those? By training, of course.
The more you undergo physical training, the stronger you become and can learn new taijutsu techniques. Naturally, your chakra will increase, but not as much as using actual ninjutsu techniques. The more and more you use ninjustu, the stronger they become, and the more chakra you can create. You can also find rare scrolls to increase your chakra, which are dropped off enemies or given to you after completed daunting tasks.
Learn, create, use! Jutsus can be taught or developed!
That's right, jutsu can be taught by your instructors, or you can even develop your own jutsus! Customize your ninja by doing so and stand out from the others, become stronger, and protect your village and your friends! But how do I create a jutsu? Well, that can be very difficult... but here goes!
In order to create a jutsu of your own, you must design it by using your affinity. This is the element you chose at the beginning of the game when designing your ninja. We'll begin with an example:
Ishiro: Male, Age 24, Height 5'11", weight, 186 lbs, body build: medium, hair color: black, eye color: black, elemental affinity: wind.
(Note: In the game you have a physical level and chakra level. Your physical level determines how strong a taijutsu ability you can use or develop. It also determines such things as HP, vitality, speed, strength and dexterity. Your chakra level determines your ability to use ninjustu, how strong it will be, how accurate and how many you can use.)
Chakra level: 120
Physical level: 140
Ishiro designs the ninjutsu technique "Fuuton: Kazekiri" (Wind style: Wind Drill)
Developing the technique will require you to determine how strong you wish to make it, you can choose how many chakra points (CP) it requires to create. But beware, you can only create techniques within your chakra level.
We'll start the technique out requiring 50 CP. That means Ishiro can only use the technique twice before exhausting most of his chakra. The same goes for learning techniques. If you find a scroll with say, for example, "Fuuton: Shippuukobushi" (Wind style: Hurricane fist), and it requires 250 CP to use, it's obvious you're not strong enough to use the technique. The same goes for techniques of other elements. If you find a scroll containing "Suiton: Suiryūdan" (Water style: Water dragon bullet) and are of the wind nature, you cannot learn a water style technique.
Also, since each techique you use requires a certain amount of chakra of physical strength to perform, you can increase your ability to use it more, or make it stronger, by using it more and more, or increasing your chakra with scrolls. For a simple technique like the kagebunshin (shadow clone), you start by only being able to create one clone. Each clone requires 10 chakra points (CP). Eventually after using the technique enough you can strengthen it by using more chakra (making it faster and stronger) requiring 20-30 CP. You can also increase your chakra to eventually create up to essentially 100 clones (1000 CP), but remember, using up your chakra can be dangerous. Running out will result in a K.O.! Ex. You have 100 CP, and you use the kagebunshin to create 10 clones (requiring 100CP), you can pass out right after creating all the clones.
Other techniques can be developed such as taijutsu (physical techniques), for example:
Ishiro: Chakra level 120, Physical level 140
Ishiro develops a physical technique called Iwa Ashige "Rock kick".
The technique requires you to have at least 20 PP (Physical points) to perform. Unlike chakra techniques, these don't deplete your physical strength as fast. In fact, it only requires 1/4 of the PP needed to use. That is, of course, unless you are under a "stressed condition". What is a stressed condition? A stressed condition can be any one of the following: Using "gates", using any number of "kekkai genkai" (bloodline limit) abilities, or (much much later in the game) spiritual modes, such as "hermit mode". When undergoing these stressed conditions, the amount of PP used when using taijutsu can either be increased or decreased, depending on the condition.
Genjutsu:
Genjutsus can only be learned via instructor or scroll, and cannot be developed on your own. You can find these by either consulting your teacher or completing difficult missions.
Getting stronger, ranking up!
As you get stronger, and after completing a number of missions for your village, you are allowed to participate in the chuunin and jounin exams held every 3 months (in-game time). Participation will be against other playable characters online in a competition of strength, wit, and technique! Do your best and you can be allowed to rank up to the top!
Increasing your rank allows you many new things. It opens up a vast list of new missions and quests, new armor (upon completing and ranking up, you are given the traditional battle vests as a reward), new scrolls, new weapons and much, much more!
Jounin and beyond.
Now you may think achieving the top rank may be the end of it, what more is there to do besides missions and quests? There are a number of things along the game, before becoming a jounin and after that can interest you. In the game there will be real time events that go on at any given moment. Your village could suddenly be under attack from an enemy, or so could you while on a mission. You can choose a different style of play and join Special Ops forces, which gives you a wide array of new quests and missions to do, as well as deal with reconnaissance work, and a number of other activities. Interact with people of your village and others. Encounter new enemies all the time, fight bosses such as members of Akatsuki and other renegade missing-nin. And beware, even jinchuruuki are hiding among the midst. Encounters with them can be a blessing, or a curse...
The choice you make to mold and shape your very own shinobi rests in your hands.. Take care, young shinobi, and good luck!

Stop it.
Nah it's a cool sounding idea. But MMOs are really terrible terrible things.

Actually I just ignored it, because I don't feel like treading lightly around your precious feelings just because you think everyone should help your horrific idea not suck.

It's more or less a matter of respecting someone's idea, I'm not asking much. I don't care if you think it sucks, I just don't want negativity being spewed around the thread. Christ.

It isn't your idea. You took Magic Points/Tactical Points (or some other quantifiable pool of powers of nebulous origin), rechristened them, and then slapped on a thin coat of Naruto and called it your own. Your "idea" is an anime fanboy's reskin of every standard MMO ever created.
Give me a reason to be positive about your "idea", and you may just be shocked to find that I will be. Otherwise, I don't make it a point to dole out smiley face achievement stickers just because you spent a long time typing out your plagiarism.
You want "positive feedback"? Create your own story, your own world, and don't expect the population of this here internet toswoop down upon your crotch and fellate the fuck out of you just because you asked them to play nice.
Edit: Ok.

Very innovative, I read the whole post.
From reading the Beginnings section, I presume after progressing enough it's possible to eventually master all of the elemental affinity's? Or do you have to align with only one?; since the player would have to choose one of the 5 specific countries to reside in.
I also loved the thorough training section, though I wonder does one specific style of training differ significantly from another when it comes to character development? unless they are all leveled out, and it ultimately depends on player preference. I liked the scrolls and techniques concept, and the fact that you have to actually use your ninjutsu to progress and not attempt to hoard scrolls with no boundary.
Developing your own jutsu is also very unique, and I have a question on this also: When you use or deplete your chakra and physical points by way of creating jutsu's or jutsu usage, how do you go about regaining the lost points?
Competing against others in competition and rankings sounds awesome, especially when considering the possibilities of all the different types of technique creation and customization. The rewards and new endeavors available upon ranking up also sound very intriguing and fun.
In the Jounin and beyond section, you mentioned a number of events that can happen at any given moment in real time. Can battles between countries or villages conclude as the result of attacks, or will these attacks be carried out by lesser scale individuals? Pertaining to joining Special Ops forces, will the opportunity become available upon enough progressing, or can you join up and train with them at a particular early stage?
Going about encountering new enemies, bosses, adversaries, and renegades sounds like a thrill, along with the chance of meeting the mysterious jinchuruuki.
___
Once again great job on creating the whole idea by yourself. I apologize if these were lengthy comments and questions. It was an interesting read and these were the questions that came up for me.

Excuse me for using the same structure as most RPG's use, I wasn't aware I had to use a system outside of the norm. Every RPG/MMO uses the same "magic points/tactical points" system, so get used to it. And I don't need to give you a reason to be positive about it, I just don't want to hear the same pompous bullshit you throw around in every thread you tend to disagree even slightly with anything being said. In fact, I would rather you not respond at all rather than give anything positive or negative.
As for Merlini..
You initially have one affinity, but later on can learn skills to gain sub affinities, but only allowed one. You can change your main/sub via scrolls, but only so often. Also, the element you choose has nothing to do with your country, you could be from the earth country and use water style, it wouldn't matter. You wouldn't have any advantages/disadvantages from it.
Training facilities would consist of either dummies to practice on or other players/npcs to train with to practice techniques/gain strength. You can gain physical points from using any sort of hand to hand combat on dummies or against players/npcs. Chakra points would be increased by using them on dummies/npcs, or depending on the technique, you could practice it by using it by itself. If say, you use the kagebunshin to practice with, just casting clones over and over will allow you to gain increases in chakra points, or holding them there for long periods of time would allow them to become stronger clones themselves. Either way, it'll increase your chakra capacity as well. So you can choose how you strengthen your own techniques.
To regain chakra you can use a number of things. One method would be like resting in this game, or visiting your home and resting. You can use items/in game food to restore chakra. You can use scrolls to increase chakra. You can even learn techniques to gain chakra regeneration so it naturally comes back while fighting/being idle.
As far as your Jounin and beyond question, the answer is both. Both large scale and small scale attacks can happen. It can cause "conflict" between nations, but nothing too serious until later missions are added in to progress story wise. My idea would be, as far as large scale goes, there's a system of game play from another game I'd like to adopt for this. If you've ever played Assassin's Creed, you know how your actions can be viewed differently by the people around you. I'd like to use a sytem like that in here that, actions you take on in missions can make other nations mad at you as well, if you take the wrong course of action. Say for example, you're given a mission to escort someone from the kirigakure village to the sunagakure village. If you are attacked during the mission and allow your escort to become injured, you can gain bad relations with the nation who hired you. Or vice versa, if you did well on your mission, you can gain that nations trust, allowing you to have more missions flow in from them. Losing trust with other nations can result in more attacks from them on future missions as well, but it's a slow build up of trust/distrust.
The special ops I'm referring to is like ANBU. You can only join special ops/ANBU after becoming a Jounin, it's a requirement. And joining requires you to stay with them for a dedicated period of time as well, so it's a decision you shouldn't make hastily. It's a completely different advantage to the game, as they do many different missions than normal. Their missions entail things such as covert operations, gaining intel/reconnaissance, and escorts of much higher calibur (usually royalty or nation's leaders [kage's]).
Also, another aspect of the game I forgot to mention was in regards to something I said before. It is entirely possible to get kicked from your own nation, depending on your actions. If say on a mission, or quest, or hell anytime you fight someone of another nation or your own, and kill them, or do any sort of major damage to someone's property belonging to that nation, you could be banished. In which case, you are labeled a missing-nin, and become an enemy. It's not exactly easy, and possible you could just suffer repercussions from your actions (by either paying out of pocket to have damage fixed or given a series of things to do to make up for it, i.e. trust missions for the nation you offended), but enough actions or a large enough action could result in labeling you as an enemy to your nation. It's possible to reverse the banishment but it's difficult, you would have to find ways to appease the nation you were kicked from or join another nation by appeasing them, but the process would not be easy. It's also entirely possible to do this on purpose so you could become sort of a bad guy in the game, in which case you can join up with others to make small groups and join renegade villages.

I'd quit FFXI or other video games/development for a long time so I can become a wind/fire/rapping type ANBU from the cloud village
