The HUD in FFXIV is customizable. You can arrange it as you like. So says one of the interviews the guy posting from gamescon posted.

New videos are up:

GC 09: MP Gameplay Part

Get a glimpse of the map in the first one:

Thank god we have other people who have played the game because if it were just dependent on the announcer in the video I don't think we'd know what the hell was going on.

Wow... How big are the maps? That goes up to 49 and there is clearly a load more of the map missing off to the right....

I like that chatbox. Font with an outline is alot more readable than most MMOs (just like FFXI's). From watching those videos, I get the feeling the game would be alot more playable if the jerkass wasn't there trying to explain everything. It seems like whichever character the camera was on, whoever was playing it simply stopped doing things entirely.

Since the world is going to be seamless, I think that small part of it is probably just on a larger world or region map.

That looks awesome. I noticed you put shields on your back now, hurrah to not having to carry your shield on your wrist 24/7.

I smell add-ons possibly making an appearance... anyone else?

Also!:

Totally looks more like a beast master to me with the feathered hat... just a speculation... meh then again with the designer pants and the spotted jacket...lol

Look at those high quality denims though, DAMN he gets some sexy ass honeycombs with those things! Even a touch of stacking as well.

Anyways, I don't see how god damn tough it is for SE to be cool and go classic cactuar or something like this instead. >=(

We have an interview our fansite Adminstrator had with the producer this week. We have some of this information that is shown here and elsewhere on these boards as well. Some other interesting tidbits found in my signature below!

Add-ons may not be possible since the PS3 is involved. At least you can move the UI around to your liking. Personally I am just happy SE is allowing for that.

Thats fine if you find those more interesting, but few things to point out.

Death Knight = Dark Knight? Only difference I see is that you can use necromancing skills and use frost to tank.

I don't find anything "unique" about Druids, I see them in alot of games to the point where the term "unique" has become invalid. No class in WoW, the name itself is not unique, how WoW establishes these classes is what is unique. So i'm in a balance of agreeing and not agreeing with you.

But let me ask, not asking if you like them or not, or if they are useful, but out of the 20+ job classes in FFXI, you do not find one of them unique?

Sure. I think COR is pretty unique.

Aside from that? Everything falls right into the holy trinity category. DPS/HEALS/TANK.

And its been done before.

As for Death Knight = Dark Knight? No way. Dark Knight is a melee DD with gimp black magic and some unique spells. Death Knight is nowhere near that in my experiences, but I havent ever leveled DK so I cant really comment completely.

The way the Lalafel runs... lol

So glad I had zero interest in rolling one in the first place, because now I'm just going to laugh every time I see one running in front of me. I may have to /autofollow to camp as I can't control myself when I laugh so hard...

I won't mind it being a mouse/keyboard set up so long as you don't HAVE to use the mouse to do things. One thing I really got sick of that I missed so badly in FFXI to WoW was having to loot every single freaking thing you killed. Not to mention if there was ever loot lag, it was just a pain in the butt. FFXI was perfect, just auto loots everything you kill, and you figure out what you're going to do with the junk you collect. It had a very easy sorting system, and looking at names of items was so much easier than trying to find out which rock it was you needed for the quest when you have 20 different kinds of rocks in your bag so you have to hover over every single one.

I loved FFXI's UI. I hope they don't change it much, or at least just make it so it doesn't get all clustered like it does in WoW. I like watching the screen, not looking at 1000 different buttons. I will honestly be highly disappointed in the game if they move the UI just to the standard MMO UI that almost all of them have except WoW. And if I can't use the keyboard to do everything. 2 pretty simple things could make or break my enjoyment of the game.

Honestly from watching the videos some of the character movements (mainly while running) look kind of stiff to me. I don't know if anyone else really notices that, I might just be nitpicking. The character's also seem to come to this weird halt type of motion when they've stopped running; this is kind of like a lunging motion. Something about the camera was also making me feel a little dizzy when watching it in full screen, I think this may have to do with the fact that sometimes the character was not center screen(if not all the time). In ffxi and other mmo's your character remains at the center of your screen usually unless you are in some kind of cut scene. I guess i'm a little nervous because some games with different camera motions (to name one, Spyro) really make me terribly motion sick ><. I really hope that FFXIV doesn't make me motion sick but I couldn't help feel a little dizzy while watching those trailers. Anyone else get motion sick while playing any games (or felt the same way while watching the trailer)?

Edit: After watching the videos again for a few more times I was able to pinpoint what was really bothering my vision. Its a combination of the above things I was mentioning. As you move your character around but then stop, your character does this sort of short stop halting motion, BUT the camera continues to move all over the place, this is the same thing they did in the game spyro and tak, among others that made me really motion sick ; ; Basically for me to not feel motion sick i need the character and the camera to move together as one (in a nutshell). I really hope they decide to keep the camera steady when your character stops moving, or i will pretty much be unable to play this game without getting sick.

Keep in mind that the gameplay in the video was taken from the game while it was in it's alpha stage.
