What is with all this complaining about questing for exp? You can just as easily grind if you'd prefer, this if anything just gives you another option for exp, you can get a group to grind with or you can kill 10 of [insert monster] and talk to a npc and get exp by yourself (Aion did this) Grant it aions grinding option wasn't as great as questing, but I'm sure 14 will allow a decent amount of exp for grinders if you so choose. (I'm using Aion as my primary reference because it's a game I've played which closely resembles the mini quests they'll be giving us) You can just as easily lfp, and do a mini "kill 10 crabs" or something quest and get exp while you lfp or whatever suites your fancy, it just makes the game more versatile, and opens windows for the 'casual gamer' who can sign on kill his 10 crabs and sign off without having to lfp.
Final Fantasy has had a spotless track record of producing in-depth quests as well, 11 being their first MMO, you all know how nicely developed most of our quests were and the great underlying stories and such. 14 will be the same way, they're not going to all of a sudden cut out their plot thickening missions, just through in a couple mini quests for people who prefer to get exp that way.
So don't get all upset because they're adding a new element to the mix of exping, just think of it as an opportunity. If you've been grinding for hours, pt disbands and you want a little more exp, but not bother with a brand new party? well hey! Hit up old man jenkins, he wants you to kill 3 dodo's because they've been terrorizing his crazy cat, bring back some proof and boom exp. It's quick, it's easy, and it can keep noobs out of your grinding exp parties.

I am not sure why anyone would be complaning from the video of the play. I think sums it up to say in the very least this is what everyone was wanting. I personally am going to wait and see more from this before i pass any judgement so as to not be bias beforehand. I can see this going either direction I am looking for more in depth playing or maybe some "boss" type battles before i decide.

This has little to do with game, it's a choice. In 11 you can do plenty till invite, so people crying "I wait 2h for invite but was afk and missed it" I have no sympathy for!

Its a matter of looking at what is best for the players. I'm sure SE took a look at a number of complaints for XI when exp was concerned, namely having to wait hours on end for a group; this is why we have FoV, Campaign etc...
From what has been released to us so far I think SE has done their homework more extensively this time around and knows what and what not do. It might just be me, but I think SE is a proud company and I doubt they would let another IP from a rival company to effect their games. Final Fantasy has always been centered around story first, there probably will be a good explanation for the "Go Here", "Do This" quests.
Also, its an ALPHA... at least wait until... Final release maybe before thinking that the entire game will run exactly like this.
I imagine we'll get quests like this at the beginning to familiarize players to the game and later on the quests will grow in difficulty.

I'm guessing this is the new leveling system.
Everytime you kill something with a Sword, you get points to
Everytime you use magic/Archery/Hand-to-hand Combat and so on so forth.

Haha I was tripping off the exact same thing.
The graphics and detail are just insane... and this is just Alpha testing alone.. Really wanted to see a little bit more of the sword play combat personally but this was still amazing.

Another WoW-clone... GOOD JOB SE, YOU ROCK!
It's amusing how the second you see anything borrowed or that looks similar to another game, you all start screaming clone. If it's popular, they will borrow it, but the core will be their own. SE has plenty of stuff they bring to the table that other people don't or can't.

I see alot of similarities to WoW. Denying that is just ignorance or 'wishful thinking'. Let's face it, SE is trying to cash in on the trend of 'casual gaming' like WoW did, so they are willing to sell themselves short in order to make more money.
Erase the similarity in races from FF14 and what do you have? A WoW-clone.

I honestly don't think any of this matters...
Besides, all they got from FF11 was NA players bitching up a storm whenever something didn't go their way. Just like Nintendo and Blizzard, SE is starting to realize it is much better to try to please and welcome everyone rather than entertain the spoiled few we currently refer to as "gamers."
WoW is far from the best game ever, and the Wii is far from the best system out, but both are a prime example of what SE is - and very well should - be trying to aspire for: A gaming experience that welcomes new players both casual and hardcore. It's a much more gratifying and financial rewarding approach in the long run.

It's a case of continual evolution in gaming. There are several aspects that are different than WoW. The fact that they're adopting things from WoW is only proof that SE listens to it's player base who ask for things that they saw in WoW. SE still has it's unique take on the job system, which they further refined. It's not like you're stuck as 1 job forever like in WoW. There's also unlikely to be warring factions like in WoW. Game companies borrow from each other all of the time. You're a complete moron to be screaming it's a clone after only seeing clips of the Alpha.

All said from the words of a casual gamer, im sure.
People who enjoy a casual gaming experience and enjoy having everything handed to them will enjoy this game, no doubt. As for those of us who want a challenge, this will likely not be the game we hoped for.

Im pretty sure the majority of adaptations will have come from the casual gamers in FFXI, since they are generally the first to complain about anything that doesn't suit them.
Enough has been said/shown to see where they are going with this game. If you can't realize that, then sorry for you. All I am saying is, I will be the person on launch date saying "I told you so."

Who cares if it has similarities to WoW? I guarantee that millions will enjoy it. There will be the typical cry-baby moron who will never be pleased and feels they have to point out obvious things and claim it's a clone yet will probably end up playing it themself and enjoy it.
Get over yourself. You'll say "I told you so"? To what exactly? The way it looks? Congrats, I guess.

I think its safe to hope for both types of gameplay but i find it hard to please everyone and money talks. I reiterate my previous statement and hope to see more advanced session of gameplay and "party" aspect of FF14 before I make too vast concept of what the game will conclude too later on down the road. This is the gameplay i enjoy with playing with people to "grind" or however one puts it and vast elements of play when your time invested can be utilized into use and strategy on Boss monsters.

Who cares if it has similarities to WoW? Umm, im pretty sure most people who play FFXI will care? Atleast those of us who have actually tried both games. Otherwise, why are you even playing FFXI at all, why not just play WoW now? FFXI provides a completely unique experience from other MMO's out there, that is why the majority of people who continue to participate in endgame activities still play FFXI, and not WoW.
Millions of people "enjoy" WoW too, does that mean it is a good game to people who actually want a challenge when it comes to gaming?
As far as calling me a cry-baby moron, that just shows your level of maturity right there...nothing else needs to be said on that point.
I will be saying "I told you so." Not to how it looks though, not sure where you pulled that out of your ass from. People are claiming that this is not going to be a WoW-clone. I am talking about the entire gameplay aspect of FF14. Already we can see that it is going to be very casual and has taken a ton of pages out of the WoW playbook. I am sorry that you are too ignorant to see what I see, but again...you will on launch day.

Based off that logic, Final Fantasy has been around longer than Warcraft (by about 7 years) Comparing the first Final Fantasy and the first Warcraft game. FFXI also came before WoW (by almost a year) So I could just as easily say WoW Copied some of the races like elves, or some of the jobs that they use (and slapped a fancy name on them)
Or better yet! Tell me if this sounds kinda familiar
"To begin playing Lineage II, players create a character as their avatar in the game's medieval-style virtual world. Humans, Elves and Dark Elves start off in the Kingdom of Aden while Dwarves and Orcs start off in the Kingdom of Elmore. Players can choose from either fighter or mystic professions at the start, except for Dwarves and Kamael which are only able to select the fighter profession; this choice acts as an archetype for later profession options. Each race has its own set of classes, even if humans, elves and dark elves have a lot of classes that are very similar to their counterparts in the other two races." Sounds a lot like WoW, but it's Lineage II by Ncsoft, but that's also been around longer than WoW, but no its cute that you think WoW is the alpha and omega, the first do to anything online and excel at it. You can take almost any 2 similar genre games and say they have similarities. You're mistaking fantasy similarities with stealing or copying, no one is copying WoW.

Huh, but no really, its ff14 that's copying Wow because it's the worlds greatest game ever and I get hard ons just thinking about it and my level whateverthefuck torren is so awesome I could just suck my own dick and blah blah blah. Just because ff14 has a few new twists to it to entertain the way gamers based on the trend online games are taking doesn't mean they're copying WoW especially since they WEREN'T THE FIRST TO DO IT. Fuck, I'll solve all of this right now...
Every MMO right now is an Ultima Online clone.
There, I said it...
No fuck that, DnD clone...
Lord of the Rings Clone?
Fantasy story clone?
Who cares, I'd prefer for SE to take the "casual" gameplay of WoW and find a way to mix it with the "Hardcore" gameplay of XI. At the end of the day they're a company; SE is going to do whats best for their pockets, and if trying out some tried and true techniques works, then it works.
Example, I don't care much for the state of hip hop today, but if I produced songs and they sold I wouldn't be complaining. Got to give credit where credit is due. Remove yourself from your opinions and your "facts" and look at it from another perspective.

Call it a WoW-clone... a Lineage-clone... a Pokemon-clone or anything else you want for all I care.
What are you not realizing is that speaking from my own perspective, and many people that I know...we play FFXI because of it's UNIQUENESS. We do not want another game that just follows the 'trends'. We want a UNIQUE game, which I thought FF14 MIGHT be, but it has turned out different than I thought.
Nice attempt at something that has nothing to do with what I was talking about though, "champ."
