List of shit found on WoW but not in FFXIV:

Blood Elves
Night Elves
Draenei
Tauren
Cheesy graohics that didnt even look good at launch
"Real Time" Battle

Things they have in common:

Fetch Quests much like those found in every MMO-RPG, INCLUDING FFXI. Yes, you are lying to yourself if you think they weren't in there.
The ability to progress without waiting on five other people to login and get their shit together.

Yep. Total fucking clone.

The difference is Fetch Quests weren't the leading ways to gain EXP in XI. And I'm hoping they stay away from that path in XIV

but what do you want to grind monsters? personally I want neither I want a quest system that you can somewhat customize. I want a new innovative quest system. I dont want to grind and I dont want something overly complicated. These guildleves are suppose to be that new quest system.

Ok, reading all arguments and putting that aside for now, it looks impressive for an early alpha version. The first video had a bit of collision issues and the Elvaan and Hume had similar animations to FFXI; that is until I saw the other videos.

In the end, I will probably wait for open beta and final release to make my final opinion about the MMO. Yes, it does look similar to WoW in some respects, but remember that in the past few years, FFXI players have been clamoring for casual play in FFXI. Look at what we got in the end for FFXI:
- Reduced XP needed to get from 1 to 75 - Instead of taking longer to get to 75
- Fields of Valor - Instead of spending hours seeking in a party, we can do FoV quests for spurts of XP
- ZNM - Instead of camping HNMs or NMs, we can get pretty decent gear from here
- Watchful Pixie quest - Instead of camping HNMs/NMs for weapons, we can get unique and in most ways decent weapons
- Campaign battles - Instead of being cockblocked by a merit burn party because your job isn't meant for meriting; or have no time to merit; then do Campaign
And, it looks like FFXIV will carry similar ideas over, yet we're complaining it's similar to WoW because of its casual gameplay??? We should be the ones to blame because we asked for it. If you don't like it, then don't play it-- simply put. And, in large part, a lot of WoW-mentality (and complaining) from a lot of the FFXI community been directed towards SE why so-and-so is difficult or why so-and-so takes too long to get X-item or get from point A to point B. FFXIV is the end result of what SE took as quote-and-quote "suggestions" and "complaints" on their PlayOnline.com website, at Fan Festivals, and game conferences/trade shows.

The general and majority attitude of players in FFXI want things easier and be given to them on a silver platter, so to speak. It's why we have botters and RMT still prevalent in this game after six or seven years. We'd rather take the easy way out instead of the hard way, and if things don't go our way, we complain. And, that's how it's been for FFXI for the better part of its existence. Just read KillingIfrit each day, or BlueGartr forums, or Allakhazam, and so forth and so on. You can get a general feel of what players been wanting in FFXI but SE didn't give it to us.

If you thought Square-Enix wasn't listening, well apparently they were. They took what made FFXI great (storyline and community) and what made WoW great (casual gameplay) and made FFXIV. They listened to what we wanted in FFXI but they failed to deliver on it, so they (will most likely) put in FFXIV in one way or another.

So why are we complaining?

Because it isn't unique?

Because it's too much of a WoW clone yet we only have snippets of videos of it to make a final conclusion based on an alpha version?

It does sound in a way disappointing if you base your judgment on short video clips alone without having played the game at all.

We'll eventually complain about FFXIV issues after release anyhow, so the cycle will continue.

I think the best response to all this is: "You get what you pay for."

You wanted casual play, there you have it-- FFXIV Online.

I mean, given everyone's complaints, a better title would be:
"FFXI version 2-EQ derivative-WoW derivative-FFXII online-SE can't seem to satisfy FFXI players yet they complain to us so often" Online

I enjoyed PTs for the most part, though finding ppl who think there's more mobs you can EXP on other than Colibri are rare.

And besidest hat questing for EXP just never seemed right to me. Every MMO I played on breaks from XI have it, it's just so fucking boring and feels like the game should be offline.

I can agree I liked partying I just hope this time around you dont need 2/20 jobs for a tank then 6/20 for a healer /support which is just insane. I want the parties to be more flexible but I want the quest to be more interactive or innovative then kill x. I mean I dont care for kill x early on but not all the way in the game. I liked partying up. there should be incentives to party up like more exp / rewards for completing harder versions of the quests (like adding guildleves to customize the quest for it can be harder but require more people)

I dont know, I am not a game developer, I want hardcore, fun gameplay but I also want to get things done with just a few hours or just an hour of playtime. I want something that mixes both styles, requires groups when you want or solo friendly. Like I said the game I only really seen this in was CoH. I played CoH for a very small time. But what I saw was nice, you could solo, and solo fine. Least early on. But you can also join a team (I did like right out of the tutorial place) and just do missions, you dont even have to share the missions, just set the waypoint, go in you all get credit. Now sure its a little old, or can get old but I like that, you can either go in alone or go with a group and it be fun and you get more.

Either way, if we are here bitching or defending ff14 we will play it. And then as October said, we will then proceed to bitch about it some more.

There's no actual point in closing the thread cause we had a derailment. Ase kicked some ass and set some things straight, and now we can move forward. Though I will say FFXI had the Kill X number of mobs long ago for those of us remember doing DRK or the Bastok mission where you had to kill 15 or so Copper Quadavs.

Anyway, I'm highly looking forward to FFXIV. I'm suspect to believe TP works more like MP now, so you don't accumulate it through melee. I noticed they were spending but not gaining. Also, I can't tell if the music playing is FFXIV or random Gamescon music....

All said from the words of a casual gamer, im sure.

People who enjoy a casual gaming experience and enjoy having everything handed to them will enjoy this game, no doubt. As for those of us who want a challenge, this will likely not be the game we hoped for.

It's not so much about having everything handed to you as it is wanting to be able to play the game AND have a life/girlfriend/job etc. Some people with those things don't have time to play for hours and hours.

Meh, I hope engame stays pretty much the same. The only thing that ruined XI was the 21+ pop endgame stuff. I don't mind working for shit, but to me HNMs are like being on call 24/7 when you play.

HNM wouldn't be as fun if they spawned every 3 hours.

I don't see why stuff can't be forced pop or instanced. And SE hasn't given a valid reason for that BS logic either in XI.

And no that "We don't want everyone to have this" stuff is a bullshit statement. Einherjar was going in the right direction but if they would have just listened to us and made HNMs forced pop there's no telling what Einherjar could have been.

I'd rather have a mix of both. Maybe the majority would rather farm pop items for every god damn thing, but I rather wouldn't. For NMs, sure. HNMs shouldn't be forced popped.

Mix pop items with spawns might work (Dark Ixion style). DI is just funny though, so idk.

Since I generally don't do HNMs for the gear, I'd rather not have Herald Gaiters being as common as earth crystals. You can have the ??? spawn every 20 hours, but drama over who should have got the ??? is just depressing.

It all depends on how hard you make the drops. I had a system made awhile back that where the drops to pop things were limited you'd have to put a more than normal effort into obtaining them.

Though it really doesn't matter since when it comes to botting, SE has their head up their ass giving the whole "How do you know they bot" excuse when I'm pretty damn sure they've read up on bots before on fan sites.

It's difficult to see but the melee guy did gain from hitting the mob.(assuming you're talking about the "Magic & Melee Gameplay" trailer) It's weird how it was working.. almost like Dancer TP moves. When the melee guy does that weaponskill that looks somewhat like Red Lotus blade, his TP dropped from 3000 to 2500, then one hit brought it back to 3k. Looks like we wont have to blow all our TP on one weaponskill this time around, or atleast maybe different weaponskills require different ammounts of TP.

Edit Very nice pics man... Check out the last big headed alien looking one.. haha & Malboro and that demon eye just look bad ass. Thanks for posting.

Luciferu over BG boad made some nice Sum-up.

- FFXIV is 8 years old project from FFXI experience
- Story and gameplay will be totally different from FFXI
- Story promised to be more epic than FFXI
- Recorded voices for NPC for a better interaction and immersion
- Game is aimed for neophytes and fans

- They're hesitant to port it on 360 because of Xbox Live (i.e. PSN = $ and XL = points)
- Playing with pad will be featured of course and it will be intuitive

- How does Amoury System work? They can't reveal anything for now but they said you can change your job as much as you want between fights by changing equipment (like FFXI's automatons?)
- Game will be based on one main quest said to be very difficult and come with casual quests
- It won't be about powered characters, PT will be about abilities and what you can bring in your PT: veteran players and occasional players will be able to group together
- There'll still be intense fights against monsters

- Concerning communication: it was the will of the team who wished to do the opposite of FFXI's strategy: getting feedbacks and comments from the beginning
- Linkshell system overhaul to make PTs and online tools to help players by gathering informations of the social life of FFXIV
- Premiere Sites system will be extended with events' calendar

R.E: ppl bitching about these "fetch" quests shown on the trailers. as i understand it,it was not mentioned at all that they were a quest of any sort. it could a fields of valor type thing accessed from your guildleves for all we know, and its being implemented at the start of the game instead of 5-6 years into the game!

love those new mob designs, but as sotek said a more classic cactaur would be nice.

I really hope they are quests. Go to your town, quest giver says "go kill 10 Snippers." That's one aspect of other MMOs that I actually had a lot of fun with. Grinding repeatedly for exp wasn't fun except on Brd.
