u rock 4 postin this, most vet players are assholes, who think their "epeen" grows everytime they find an individual with better gear than them, all around an awesome post man, things will start out different in ffxiv cuz every1 will start a noob.but give it lke a year man, those self absorbed, narcissistic nerds will eventually take over cuz they play like 20 hrs a day and will find ppl to rag on and call noobs once they get their parsers (ya a dmg calculator and formulas for a game is ridiculous to me) and better gear than at least some ppl who play.
sux ass man but its the truth...

nah, most vet players are just fed up with the volumes of stupidity that come out of people like you. there's a reason a lot of "us" choose to stay away from WoW. Or came over from WoW. whatever.
hint: grammar, spelling, punctuation, and the enter key once in awhile.
@ OP:
cute, but it seems more like you're basing your observations for an entire playerbase on your experience with 1 or 2 people who flamed you for gearing yourself in a retarded fashion. self induced flaming is ftw i guess.
The game has been around a long time now. us "elitists" figured out a long time ago the general idea of how to perform our job to a respectable level. sure some will get a hard on by having better gear or whatever, but at the end of the day it's a small % that are like that. As for you idiots that TP in AGI rings... pretty much everyone you come into contact with, whether it be XP party or helping on some mission, will hate you because your idiocy cost them time, victory, money, etc.

hmm....ill skip the punctuation, continue to abbreviate my words, and ur rite about the enter key
see???took ur hint.and honestly wat the(ya im not gonna put "what",to lazy) OP was reflecting on
as well as myself, are the vet players who DO act this way,if ur not 1 of em,dont be offended and move
on,but trust me ive seen it MANY times, aimed at me when I was a new player, and aimed at others
who were new players as I garnered a little more experience in the game.but calling people idiots
because you dont agree or obviously are pussy-hurt (yep learned how to use a hyphen and I owe it to u)
by their posts, tbh we couldnt thank you more, for making our point for us
the whole point is,there are new players JUST STARTING that dont know that gear choice A is better
than gear choice B,your supposed to be there as a vet to show that guy/girl the way instead sitting there
and referring to their gear choices as "idiocy",but damn you do make a point,tp in AGI rings is kinda...wow.
but all we are trying to say is if you see it,dont shake your head, pull out an extra ecuphoria ring
like the OP mentions, and let them borrow it,see wat we're tryna same man???and oh shit I used an apostraphe...

Let people borrow gear? Seriously?
Heck, they'd probably sell it to buy Sushi.
I like the point about people with good gear being gilbuyers. I find it more common that complete newbs buy gear, it makes scamming them out of it such fun. God I miss Timmmmmmyyy.
HNM LSs buying gil too, LOL. Spending $3000 on bots and still not claiming anything would be more accurate for most.

aeon ftw.
i personally dont care much about lolXI anymore, bc i notice that once u have a relic weapon, u can have shitty gear and still out do 95% of players as long as u fathom how ur job functions. this alone shows that gear, and the whole striving to be the best in ffxi has a minimal effect in the end..

ur rite, yet too many people ive met have that top-tier mentality.yes millions play this game, but even 30 or 40
with that mentality gets annoying, but hey, maybe its not a ffxi issue, its a diabolos server issue..excuse me while
I ponder that.and @Aeon,thank you for showing me the wonders of the "enter" key ^^

interesting read. i agree with most if not all of your points. i would not brand my self as an elitist (and perhaps i am frequenting the wrong forum lol), if some gears reasonably, and has a working grasp on the functions and role of there job then i really have no problem with them. sure i have my opinions on what might be better for a given situation but that is on me, and unless some one asks my opinion on the matter i will not force it on them. now i might have a snide remark or two for some one who obviously is not trying. ie throwing on random crap and calling it win because there on x job.
individually we all might be different types of nerds, but collectively we are all ffxi nerds. in this day and age where information is so accessible thous who are not trying to actively better there performance are not worth my time. now if this were back around the na launch that would be a bit diffrent. most information sources for the masses unable to read and understand japanese were babel fished pages of the jp resources. and lets not forget the infallible brady strategy guide for xi. this might come off as me being an elitist prick, but lets face it the world is not a big lets hug, prance around and sing kumbaya fest. multiplayer games are no exception.
if you want to be a mavrick and try out things that you think might work, go for it. hell you might stumble onto something good that the comunity did not think of and it would better us as a whole. just understand. we do not want you trying out pld/smn when our collective digital asses are on the line.

TL;DR version:
I levelled PUP.
I applied to an HNMLS.
They laughed.
I concocted a tirade on google in the hopes of sparking off intelligent discussion about the downfall of FFXI's playing community on Killing Ifrit.
I failed.

And for the lulz:
I can't help but find this funny comming from someone who wrote a 5+ page QQfest about how much XI sucks.

Really? I thought it was funny that he said people who are doing math should get a grip on reality.
You can't get any more real than numbers.

Fixed.

I do agree on some of his things. But really, some things he points out are common things in all MMO's. No matter what online game you play, there will be elitist and assholes who havn't figured out how to get that tree out of their ass.
When I see people talking mathematically, it worries me a bit. I'm just the type of person who likes to have fun with the game and not think too hard about it.
Even though I always work on getting better gear (wouldn't say mine is the best, but mid-par is a safe word to describe my gear), whenever I do get something better, I never truly see a big difference, IMO i'm hitting the same amount of DoT I was before. Now when i'm on WoW, whenever I get a new piece of a gear, the difference really shows. Hate to compare these two games, but yeeeeep. I think the purpose of getting better gear now has gone down to only trying to raise your epeen stats up.
I also really care less what people wear to exp parties, if they want to full AF, it doesn't bother me, as long as they are bringing damage in, its fine with me.
I'm not going to continue repeating what the guy said in his documentation, but I 100% agree on being nicer to those who arn't as familiar to the game as we are and trying to learn.
Damn, its like high school all over again, haha.

Wait so you are telling me yet another person is leaving a bitter speech about what they consider the flaws of FFXI in a bitter "Goodbye I'm Emo I can't stop my addiction to FFXI so I'm going to criticize because I'm so unique and individual and only I have this outlook on FFXI"
The big FFXI mess are you kidding me? You're the mess.

Exactly what I expected to see. It’s so much easier to judge a voice than to use one. Why think at all when you can criticize? I’ve been bored seeing the posts of people saying the same dumb shit the person before them said. Are “QQ” and “butthurt” really a valid reason to post?? Also, everyone saying this kind of stuff is way off, sorry. It completely went over your head. Or you just didn’t read it and decided to post something pointless anyway.
I don’t read enough forums to fully comprehend “troll” or what it means to “troll”. But if it means to bait someone then it’s not an inaccurate way to describe what I was looking to do.
The article I posted is filled with good ideas about what we can do to improve our community, but it also has these sharp accusations and broad generalizations to get the attention of these players that thrive on conflict despite it’s counter productiveness.
So we had two choices upon reading this.
1. Engage in a discussion about the problems we have and what we should do about them.
2. Attack the poster, trying to win a flaming war.
Without hesitation we choose the latter in every forum, its remarkable.

Not only am I attacked personally, as illustrated in the article, people immediately criticize equipment, assuming that whoever wrote this has bad gear. We actually get to see M.I.M.S. in action.
I’d like to say thank you to all these geeks for their support in helping to prove my point and make the article come to life. I wish I had responded sooner so this guy hadn’t beaten me to it.
I didn’t write this for those people who don’t have the attention span to read a mere 10 pages. In fact I bullet pointed those wildly sharp points at the very start to help weed out these retards. I wrote it for the 15-20 people that actually sat down and read it in its entirety, understood what was going on, yes, even the subtle parts, and then thought about this stuff as we move into FFXIV. Not trying to change anyone’s life, just asking people to think about it.
My only complaint is that I’ve received all kinds of private messages and friend invites wanting to talk about it. Why not post? Don’t be afraid of conflict, that’s how things get accomplished.
The article is there, read it if you want, it’s got some good stuff in it. You can keep bashing me if you want too, it’s really interesting. I’ll see everyone for FFXIV.

So basically, most of you puffed up babies, instead of actually reading his full "article" which was insightful and pretty good, just spent all your time writing comments that proved him ridiculously right...
This was not a goodbye letter. This is a plea to improve the game, our game, as a whole. The response just goes to show that a solid 60% of the people that play this game are so deeply ridden with 'toolism' and douchebaggery that it will likely be impossible to excise it from you all without some sort of a exorcism. "We'll need an old white mage and a young white mage...."
Seriously you trolls; get an attention span and a conscientiousness of the world around you.

If you don't like the game then quit and and leave the forums? Instead of crying about how much XI sucks.

I'm not standing up for anyone. But reading it, I don't think he was necessarily saying the game itself sucks. I think he was talking about interaction with one another.
But on the other side, this is a common thing in all MMO's, this is just FFXI's way of doing it.
