I'll be the 1st to make a topic here and get it all rolling:
1st one is about game mechanics.
2nd one is about PVP which they basically say the game is PVE and if they do PVP, it'll be added later and be like Ballista

Looks pretty but I'm not too fond of monthly payments. That comment about the price not being decided worries me a little what with it being SE. I might hold out for Mabinogi Heroes if that one ends up free.

I always wondered why PVP in FFXI had to be some kind of "game", like Ballista or Brenner. I think if they made an area where you can freely and quickly sign up and challenge friends to simple battles, even if there wasn't any kind of cumulative reward, it would be really popular.
It'd be more fun to compete that way instead of trying to out parse each other at bird camps, anyway...

F2P games are always shitty compared to most others with monthly payments, and even the "Free" ones usually have real-money-shops or exclusives you can only get by paying.

Well SE is deciding how they want to go through with it. I don't think they want to make the same mistake they did with PoL where if you reactivated your account on the last day of the month you'll get billed for the full month even though you played for a day.

It's really simple, the reason why they need to create team games for PVP is because FFXI and FFXIV are focused on PVE. When they design the games they don't think about if x job can versus y job and it would be balanced, they concentrate all their energy on building a great PVE game. In order to do a simple 1v1 PVP they would need to drastically change jobs and have them re-balanced, that is of course if you want 1v1ing people to be fun.
If you want to 1v1 in FFXI right now you can do that but I can't think of any person that enjoys losing to specific jobs (RDM) every. single. time. Fighting the same job can work for obvious reasons but you won't get that often, one job will rise above most and make it suck for the rest. Unbalanced games suck, that shouldn't need much explanation.
So either SE can sit down and re-balance every single class for 1v1ing each other (and considering FFXIV is trying to not stick people into specific classes, it will be much harder to do) or SE can take the premise for their game: many players vs many monsters and simply create a game to accommodate many players vs many players. Some basic re-balancing and it's good to go. Maybe some MMOs try to create a perfect PVE experience and a perfect PVP one too but SE wants to focus on PVE so they're not going to add subpar 1v1 when the game hasn't been made to be played that way. Sure they could add it to FFXIV and they could have added the same feature to FFXI if they wanted but I guarantee that it won't last more than a couple of months before people get sick of x job always beating y job. If you think Ballista died out fast there's no chance in hell simple 1v1ing will work if there's no balancing done.
It's like taking Ryu from Street Fighter and sticking him into Dynasty Warriors. He'd give it his best shot and get the job done probably but it's not what he's made to do, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as playing either game with characters that are built around it. FFXIV is going to specialise on PVE and even though 1v1 PVP can be added it's not going to be as fun because it's not built for it. If you want SE to devote time away from PVE content to balance PVP then hope for the best and see if they do that. Considering how stubborn SE has been in the past it would surprise me. Ballista is a very easy PVP fix and in my opinion would be a lot more fun than simple 1v1ing. I'd rather just play a fighting game for that personally.
