Mid-Level-THF

Greetings,

Long time lurker, first time poster in THF forums.

I've only recently returned to WoWFFXI and after a month of levelling several different jobs I decided to start up my THF again and had a few questions. (FYI it's L40 right now).

Gear setup/selection (i'm mostly following the guide in ffxipedia)
1.) +dex for SA gears, +agi for TA gears, priority on dex otherwise agi for sata gears correct?
2.) I have spare merits to throw into dagger combat skills and was wondering whats the MAX I can merit to get DE earlier than 60? I believe +2 will allow me to get it at 59 and +4 = L58 but how many can I use that early? max of 5 I think?

10-20 = 1
20-30 = 2
30-40 = 3
40-50 = 4
50-55 = 5
55-60 = 6?

unsure... /think.
3.) bravo's subligar, 200k-240k price tag on Caitsith, I lack access to the coast to camp the NM so isit worth buying @47 and how long will it last me? considering I do not have skadi's either.
4.) blau dolch i understand is pretty much a must-have for main or off-hand and is around 2M on Caitsith, should i bother with question 3.) if I should save for blau dolch first?
5.) THF invites seems to be the same as when I left the game back in '07 does this improve at 50-60? or after I get DE? how bad isit at 75 and merits? or do people still simply throw SAMs & DRGs at everything that is bird or mamool...?

ok that was more than 1 question in 5.
6.) any other important NMs I may have missed that is important 40+? and should I bother with them early or wait til my THF is almost at that level. I like to ding into awesomeness :D

Thank you for reading.

1) correct, but mix some Attack in there, VB has a secondary mod of attack.

2) I dont think you get your 6th merit enhancement until lv 60. 7th is lv 70, ad 8th is lv 75.

3) bravo's lasts until you get homam or skadi legs.... so a very long time.

4) Blau is easilly the best dagger thf can obtain. X's is better mainhand, but Blau is still the best offhand with X's.

5) 60+ invites are a little slower, as people tend to tp burn. however, invites are slow for any job because there simply isnt as many people levelling jobs as there was in '07.

general Tip: please please please, DONT use THF knife unless TH NEEDS to be applied (last 5-10% of an NM etc).

so... thief's knife = main hand? lol

alright PT invites bad not that great after 60 hmm... thats ok with this new level sync i seem to be fine making my own PTs

Bravo's price tag worth it then I take it? despite saving for Blau? or just worry about Blau later since I got so long away anyways?

Definitely, you'll be using them for a very long time. There are a few other options available, but Bravo's will last you to and beyond Lv75. If it helps you justify the price tag, just think about all the other pieces of equipment you'd be buying through the levels instead of those.

I had a paragraph written that blended different ideas together so instead I'll make separate bullet points.
- Use level sync, xp off the colibri in the past(if you have it) at the mid-30s(?) level.
- Get Bravo's asap, iirc it's head and shoulders above options.
- Always use food so that you can out DD lazy heavy DDs, and then be remembered by your peers and invited to future parties.
- Aim for but do NOT rely on having Blau at 72. Blau is and endgame dagger, if you had to wait til 74 or 75, oh freaking well. Blau with endgame merits is so much greater than blau at 72 anyway.
- Get minor xp on Colibri right outside Al Zahbi, or Campaign. Don't remember how campaign works, but the Colibri will definitely keep your dagger skilled up in case you have been relying on Level Syncs for your xp. On the other hand, if you can manage some frequent parties at your level, dagger swings too fast to not be capped consistently.
- Keep dagger merited according to your level, if you can. That's just an extra caveat that will put you one step ahead of the competition. Hell, if you feel so inclined, put a few points into Str and/or Dex early. This is truly optional and almost extraneous though.
- When you get level 60, and you get Assassin, life will be so much more sweet.

Have fun.

All good I'm close approaching L47 (44 right now) so I'll pick up a pair of Bravo's after work today hopefully. I was really worried about simply using republic subs all the way to 70+ lol!

Yes I use food on all encounters and will throw in the 6 merits I have left into dagger skill. I won't be meriting anytime soon rather be spending that time levelling so I guess earliest I can get DE will be 59 regardless.

I'll stick to East Ron [S] until I'm at least ~55 then move onto ToAU zones. Anyone got suggestions on a good parser? I haven't played this game in awhile and don't even remember what parser I use to use.

For a parser I'd start out at the end of this page of this thread http://www.bluegartr...-parser-24.html
That's just always where I go if I want new info on a parser or new memloc when a patch comes out. It's one of those threads that lingers forever as if a sticky but isn't. You can try for Directparse. That's what I always used, but I couldn't get it working recently. I imagine it still works if you go into the thread and find out what to do, though.

I started trying to get Kparse, and that turned out to be more difficult to setup. You have to download two different .net framework thingies. You'll see helpful information and links in the final few pages of that thread. Once you've got that, download the most recent version of Kparse and if it's compatible with your shizznit it'll be fine.

Prolly the best strat. Especially w/ the innate thf-ability of being able to build your own parties. Truly though I think from now on I'm only ever going to do EastRon[S]. Prolly not the style for everyone but w/ the right setup I make more exp/hr there than most merit parties make (25k-30k/hr range). So if I need to level a new job I think Ima just solo to ~11 -> shakrami worms -> korroloka worms -> qufim -> ronafure -> 75. I don't like doing the summoner burns too much. If I had more time I could probably be more efficient in finding successive level sync designees and smns. But without time efficiency I think the setup time and inconsistency makes them worse overall than ronafure and (maybe) qufim/korroloka spam. I don't really plan on ever skilling up my War until it's 75, so out with toaU and in with the new, lol.

47 now and sporting a pair of Bravo's  /cheer

A lil update..

As for the exp PT last night... well definately one of the worst ones I've made since my return. It was blu blu(37 syncee) drg whm pld and thf (me).

[rant:on]

Few issues I noticed,
1. ) whm goes out of mp @ chain#3 and we then need to rest. even during most of the fights the whm had trouble with mp unsure if its poor mp management or pld taking too much dmg or fights taking too long or all of the above!?
2.) blu and drg will randomly go afk and come back mid-fight or something
3.) drg kept /heal after each and every fight losing tp for god knows whatever reason
4.) I had no clue why either.. but he was drg/war and sports mp-drain+50 it was insane to watch him pop 300tp double thrust into a bird 0.5 seconds after provoke... I truly feel sorry for the PLD to put up with this...the PLD was rather reluctant to come in the first place as she was looking for a lvl sync 55+ I convinced her otherwise /argh
5.) isit me or are blus that bad at exp? the kills were rather slow...

Lets just say I will never pt with the blu/whm and drg ever again (all the same ls).

Anyway, all in all, the exp was slow but like I always say exp is exp and I'm the one to blame as I formed the pt :(

[rant:off]

As far as I am concerned thf as a job is definitely keeping me interested in ffxi heck careerthf? yes, please! and also I have been reading alot of the pic thread (dudewtf is up with the insane arguments!? Treelo vs the world most times..)

Also, just finished reading most of Shamaya's journel, very interesting articles on gardening and what not. I will probably look into it although nothing that extreme as I do not have the time to do it. Maybe 1-2 mules + pots etc should be a good steady income on top of whatever farming I am doing currently (nada zilch nothing... lol).

+3 dagger merits = win! I'd have invested more if I had spare but I don't. and as you can tell I am very bored at work and found there's nothing much else to read on KI as it seems pretty dead?

Finally my lj gettin some love. The gardening thing, beware. I don't think you'll be in trouble now, but at least take the word of advice. Even people with only a couple mules doing it were confused with being RMT players last July, and were temp banned (actually it was written off as a perma ban, but then reversed later). I think now you should be alright though. There're a bundle of problems though. For example, I believe you have to wait 30 days now before a newly created character can garden more than a single plant at a time. Pretty lame. As far as recipes, the NPC'able one I used was decent, but the only reason it was so good for me was because of its massive scale. On a lesser scale, with the capital, I'd look into platinum nuggets. They should still be double the profit/time (though that is just a guess). Sell these at the AH.

Sorry yer party sucked. Unfortunately, for some reason the game has gotten to the point where if you don't know someone personally.. then chances are, they're gimp. I never felt I had the attitude of an elitist but when I say gimp I mean just overwhelmingly shocking, like some of the players mentioned in your party.

Wait... 1 plant for the first 30-days? hmm... well it wouldn't be a newly created mule it is just not active right now since i never bothered to reactivate the content ID for it since my return. I'll give it a shot anyway nothing to lose aside from a mule $ fee to SE. But if they ban me.. omg I'll just quit forever in that case fuck them.

Platinum nuggets eh.. will have to check the prices and cost of the mats to see if it justifies doing it, I hate selling items on the a/h in ffxi as there's only a 7 item limit and usually if its a good sell many players will get in on the action and drive the price into the ground :(

Frankly, I feel I do a great job playing THF or any other job I set my mind to for that matter and I am also willing to take on sound advice from other players, but when you have to deal with crap skilled players (gear excluded I generally do not bother with examines) its rather annoying and really it begs the question "Why do I put up with it?" simply cos I am a nice guy and just do not need the drama / bad rep of kicking players or deal with replacing players. Will just note it down and remember for next time. I also do not fake disconnect either rather tell it to them straight if it truly ever comes to that! It must be epically bad for it to come to that though....

Anyways, time to leave work and head home for some FF action!

I've been taking THF up recently as well, and I find that /NIN is probably the most boring sub ever. I'm sitting at level 61, and I gotta say, the only reason I can see for subbing NIN is to hide behind shadows when pulling. This is really only an issue if you're fighting mobs with enhanced movement speed (like colibri) or when your first voke takes too long to get the mob off you. Otherwise, I use /RNG in East Ronfaure [S] parties for the Accuracy Bonus, 50+ I use /WAR for double attack, zerk, and attack bonus, and now that I'm 60, I've been toying with the idea of buying another Wyvern's earring and subbing DRG. Dont wanna derail this into a "This-sub vs. That-sub" thread, but give it a shot. I can't tell you how much fun it is to have Triple AND Double attack on a ridiculously low-delay weapon. ^_^

Sounds decent but I still prefer /NIN mostly for safety and I've been finding myself having to SA/WS more often than not so the safety and less of being an mp-sponge is quite appealing. Other reason would be neither my DRG or RNG is at a decent sub level lol.

Farming Wespes right now trying to get a bee larvae... really hating this ....

I only WS with TA, although I do sometimes have to solo SA which can occasionally pull hate. Not too big a deal though; I figure if I'm pulling hate over TA+WS and 2-4 other DDs, then I'm doing an overly exceptional job and the mages should be happy to heal me lol.

I think levelin up, /war is prolly the ideal sub when dmg isn't an issue. Back in skillchain days I loved it. Unless I absolutely needed higher tp gain (back then rng tp gain was considered very high, hah). At 75 though /war is just so meh =/ for exp pt stuff.
