Dunno if this was asked before (don't see a search bar like the old KI layout, but I could be 'cause I'm doing this from my cell), but is Disseverment an absolutely do-not-level-BLU-without-it spell? I really would like to level BLU for my next job once I'm done with NIN, but I don't have access to Sea. Been having trouble getting my CoP missions done. Tried shout groups before, but they never seem to go well for me. I will definitely try to get Sea before I can learn Disseverment, but will it be the end of the world if I don't?

Short answer: Yes

Long Answer: Disseverment is one of the best physical damage spell Blu has not to mention it combines with Frenetic Rip (Another awesome physical damage spell ) to make accuracy Bonus. So yes Disseverment is a necessity.

I know it's a very important spell to have. I just didn't know if I should wait to level BLU until I have Sea access so that I can get Disseverment. I know a couple BLU's who are 75 and don't have it, so I figured I'd ask.

Ehhhhh that'd be a matter of your own preference. If you wanna be without the spell at 75 that's on you. I would suggest getting Sea period though and holding off on levelling. You get nice things from Sea, Gorgets, Obis, Torques, Promathia Ring.

Do what i did, lvl blu while doing CoP.you can take it to lvl 70 b4 needing sea and blu is pretty hax on a lot of Cop missions. Its not just disseverment that essential though, plasma charge,actinic burst,temporal shift and vertical cleave are some of the best blu spells you can get,on top of all the other things poochoo mentioned.

I'd level BLU while doing sea. BLU can be pretty helpful in most CoP fights.

Is it a necessity? NO.

Is it a good thing to get? Yes.

I don't have sea (though I'm working on it at the moment) and I can keep up with other damage dealers just fine.

Set Dimensional Death instead for accuracy bonus. Use Self Destruct+Cold Wave+Frightful Roar+Voracious Trunk for auto refresh. It only costs 2 points more and you get a DEF down spell.

Don't be an asshole and act like not having that one spell is going to make or break his strength. It won't make a noticeable difference unless you use a parser and break down your damage.

The CUMULATIVE rewards you COULD get from unlocking Al'taieu(Homam, AF+1, etc) would definitely improve your character , but that's ONLY if you devote a large amount of time into end game activities.

Like Torak said, it wouldn't be just Disseverment he'd be missing out on.

I don't understand why everyone's making Sea out to be the ultimate Gauntlet of FFXI... they made it 100x easier to point where if you just round up 3-4 of your friends you can ride through it in a cool week.

Even with Assimilation merits capped... 10 point auto refresh at 75.. and Dimensional Death ... I guess it completes the accuracy bonus but I hope it doesn't get cast.

But your opinion on the matter is completely pointless, you said you don't have disseverment. 1 gimp ass player is of course gonna tell another gimp it's ok to be a fucking gimp. As well as become incredibly defensive about the fact that people are pointing out they suck.

Kowen, what DD's were YOU with that you could keep up w/ in a merit pt? Against birds? Without your only real piercing dmg spell?

I'll admit Triumphant roar made our WS's nothing to scoff at, but a free 700+ dmg spell is something you don't pass up. Not to mention the myriad of other benefits that come out of those mobs. You have fun thinking that being without sea is playing the job to it's extent. The rest of us will be trying to shake off the stigma that BLU is the lolDRG of '09, perpetuated by BLU like you.

Nothing in the game is a necessity, you can set 0 blue mage spells and do "just fine".

You don't have it so you have 0 experience of what the spell is like. By that logic it's also perfectly acceptable to be in full AF @ 75 or using Alkyoneus's Bracelets for Hysteric Barrage is totally cool as well, also forget Head Butt you don't actually need it, you'll do fine without it. Also never ever set any healing spells or refueling is "just fine".

You can also full time an Onion Sword.

Don't have sea? stop leveling at 72 and take some fucking initiative and get it done, that doesn't mean standing around WG with your thumb in your ass, start your own group and stop being a shit blue mage.

BLU is not a Maat Cap job, there is no excuse for half ass leveling it.

stuff like this makes me think SE should just remove all level caps from cop missions. for me personally the last straw was when i needed help to get a cutscene in pso'xja just because it's in a level capped zone. i mean how often do you see someone complain about not having sky?

Technically it depends on what you use BLU for...
If all you are doing is Endgame NMs and only Cannonballing / Regurgi-ing / Breathing, then no. Dissevement is not needed. The only endgame I can see it's use for is farming pops or Jailer of Temperance.. and BLU already hurt that poor mob enough.

If you use it for EXP or Nyzul or Limbus or Einherjar or anything else, yes. It's necessary. Without it you will preform worse than an average BLU with the same gear (even worse gear) + that spell. You'd be better off on another job that isn't "Gimp".

I wouldn't NOT level the job because you don't have sea, just make sure you keep working on it. By the time you hit 75 you'll probably have it. If you don't, treat BLU like any other job and as if you don't have the gear to play at endgame yet. Don't use it until it's acceptable for merit or endgame usage.
It's not a crime to not have everything for your char, as long as you are working towards getting it. If you let people know that your gear/spell list is incomplete or unacceptable and that you are working towards bettering it, you'd tend to not be made fun of. Show up to an event on the other hand and you'll probably be called out.

You called someone an asshole just for stating the obvious? Maybe you being gimp is fine for what you do, but I wouldn't group with you. Without that spell you can't hope to keep up with other BLU, unless they are terrible at their job and/or equally as gimp.
It's like your saying that someone without a right leg can bicycle, on a normal bicycle, as well as an average person with two working legs.

Gimp: Someone with the inability to function like an everyday member of society due to some limitation. (Technically walking, but we've adapted it to gaming use.)

I've only had BLU at 75 for about a month now, and as I said before I'm already close to sea with a reliable static group. I'm not defending him because I'm "gimp", I'm doing it because I truly believe you can play the job and be very effective without sea spells. Even after I get them, that's not going to change my opinion.

I called him an asshole because there's a difference between saying "You won't be good at your job" and "You're a fucking gimp".




I know I'll never get anything across to elitists who believe dealing .4 less DPS is the equivalent to being unable to function in real life, though, so let's just quit now. This question's been asked a million times before and it always gets the same answers; the OP should have just used search.
