I notice to my frustration being the newest member of my linkshell that nearly all the events we run all my spells resist and I at best barely hit the mob if at all. Im current 59 switching in a light staff and basically magic fruiting the tank for zilart, besieged, etc. Is there anything else I can do be more useful when you cant hit a mob physically or magically most of the time? Minus skipping said events and looking more often for pick up parties.

You're 59, it's perfect for doing some campaign inbetween pickup parties. Sure, there's a 20%-10% experience penalty, but the monsters are all tough and very tough to you (~61) so hitting them shouldn't be as hard as when you are in pickup parties.

Zilart was designed to be done by slightly higher level players (65~ish). Your spells will all be resisting (magical) because your blue magic skill is too low. Serving as a healer is probably the best thing you can do now
I assume they are getting you through the missions to get you access to sky? Try to at least hit 60 so you can equip your AF body. The 15 skill really helps. Also just to be clear, you need to cap your sword and blue magic skill as often as possible to avoid missing and resisting.
If you are seeing that your physical spells are "Failing to take effect", then that just means you need more accuracy!
If you know that you will be fighting stuff that is a bit too high for you but want to have some fun and fight alongside your new LS mates anyways, grab some sushi or pizza and have at it. Just make sure you are mindful of your fruit duty
Enjoy BLU. It's a great job. Keep up with your spell list and make sure to work on your CoP missions! Those are level capped so see if your LS doesn't mind synching down with you to re-do some of them
