Hiya all. I'm a 75 War with ok gear, just got into sea and such so I'm plucking away as it's my main. I just recently turned in my dusk feet for unicorn but I noticed a problem. I have only had a merit pt since getting them but since the pt I was in didn't balance hate well (sam, mnk, nin, brd, smn and me) I spent alot of time in yellow even when holding back (was /sam keeping SE/TE up). It occurred to me that they weren't doing me any good in yellow. Is this the fact that it's latent and not always on an issue? Would dusk be better overall?

I know I still need to work on Rare EX stuff (gorgets, rajas, brutal etc) but are Unicorn worth it even if it's not always active? Thanks for any advice.

uncapped acc: aurum > dusk+1 > dusk > unicorn

capped acc: dusk+1 > aurum > dusk > unicorn

I don't have aurum myself, but for now I tp in unicorn by default and switch to dusk nq in yellow. Took awhile to get used to.. and its' kinda splitting hairs.

I had Aurums and Dusk +1 and used Aurums almost everywhere. I probably could have used Dusk +1 the few times I went WAR to Nyzul or Limbus, but those are events where you're generally moving around quickly and don't want to be Movement speed -12%. In the end I lent my Dusk +1 to Richardd because I was only using them for RDM/NIN tanking.

I went Dusk NQ > Unicorn NQ > Dusk Ledelsens +1, totally hated Unicorn with a passion.

Also been having the worst luck with Aurum but I don't play much these days(practically quit) so meh.

I was big into Unicorn for a while when I was new at 75, but as my gear gradually got better, I noticed that I was constantly dropping to yellow HP. It's pretty easy to realize the uselessness of those feet, even if you try to hold back, which I personally hate doing. I use Aurum now and I'm very happy with them.

Unicorn feet aren't terrible, but how useful they are depends on how good your party actually is. If you're consistently in the yellow, then yeah Unicorn feet aren't going to do much for you. I'm not in the yellow that often though (gogo Enmity down merits) and when I am it's for maybe a second or two. I like the extra haste they give. If I had Aurum I'd keep them on me as well for a situational piece, but I seldom log in and play FFXI anymore so I can't be bothered with getting zeni and popping the NM, etc.

If you have the gil and the luck, get some Unicorn Leggings +1.

Pretty much what's been said, use swap between unicorn and dusk depending on hp%. If you're too lazy to do that, dusk are an easy fall back.

Spellcast can automatically switch your feet gear for you. Unicorn some of the time is worse than dusk all the time, so IMO you better own both or just dusk.

In magical land where you'll be in ideal situations, Uni+1 would beat the other options. In semi-realistic options, Uni should beat Dusk+1 and both should probably beat Aurum for merits or other acc-capping mobs (see blitz ring vs toreador's).

In reality aurum are best. You get a sizable chunk of accuracy and no silly movement penalties or HP conditions.
